Next meeting will be the annual dinner meeting April 10, Happy Hoppers are a member organization and all members are welcome to attend meetings and be on the board, volunteer as committee chairs or participate in the activities necessary to run our member organization. The new slate of officers will be announced. We will have a social hour from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM. For the new members, our club conducts their regular meeting in April at a Restaurant. The Buzz Inn is located at the southwest corner of the Arlington Airport, next to the Quality Inn. From the Smokey Point Exit (exit 206 off I-5), head east on 172nd Street NE, take 1st Driveway after 51st Avenue NE, Buzz Inn is on right. Each person or party will order off the menu and will receive their own check. Doug Newman is arranging the restaurant and will need confirmation if you plan to attend. Cards were sent to: Robin Luteyn ~ sister passed away. Jeff Dickerson ~ father passed away. Tammie Leslie ~ a special uncle has passed away. And a card to her for health challenges in her family. We wish everyone best wishes for their recovery and smiles and hugs to all. 8 Page 8, HCubed March 2018 MBC Delegate Report to Happy Hoppers Club The meeting commenced at 7:30 pm on March 7. All clubs in the council were present. Cliff McCracken reported that the motion to pay for travel expenses of $.20 per mile and $75 lodging was defeated. However, the council approved a wording change that allowed the delegate(s) to be reimbursed at a rate of $.20 per mile and up to $75 per day lodging if the delegate chose to request the reimbursement. The Council approved the cost ($270 plus tax) of printing 1500 generic brochures advertising our lessons which start in September,2018. The MBC has a savings account of $6,737 and a checking balance of $20,295 for a total treasury balance of $27,032. The candidates for MBC offices are: President: Glen Shaw, VP: Mike Beemer, Corresponding Secretary: Sherry Long, Treasurer: Micky Franz. There are no nominations for Recording Secretary or for Area Nominating Position. If any Happy Hopper wishes to step up and run for these positions, please contact Don Carlson. You do not have to be a delegate to run for office. The 66th annual State Square Dance Convention will be held in Kennewick on June 15th and 16th. Caller is Jerry Junck from Nebraska. Cuers are Sharon and Casey Parker from California. The 67th State Convention will be held in Puyallup on June 21 and 22. The MBC Spring Dance will be held on March 31 at Mariner HS. Steve Noseck and Scott Coon Callers, Debbie Taylor cuer. The Fall Dance will be held Sunday, September 30. Caller is Steve Noseck and cuer is Debbie Taylor. They may add another caller at a later date. Time and location TBD. The 50th annual Membership Leadership meeting will be held the second weekend in July at Circle 8. Steve Noseck calling. Any club members are welcome to this meeting. The Evergreen State Fair will be held on Aug 23 September 3. We are looking for two dates to dance at this fair. Also looking at the Skagit county Fair, August 8 11 for dancing opportunities. Cliff McCracken has 9 more Round-To-It awards to present at the MBC Dance. This makes a total of 305 awards since inception. The recommendation from Dave Harry at last MBC meeting to have the Council hold a round-table discussion of way to recruit and retain students in our clubs has not been acted upon. The issue will be revisited at the next MBC meeting. Steve Noseck presented a plea to have the call number identified for our Student Level Dances. One member stated that it doesn t do any good to have this information if the students have no idea what that means (what call they are on). The Grange Hall used by the Woodinville Square Crows will be raising their rental charge for Saturday dances beginning next January. There were 230 dancers at three locations for the Alzheimer s Dances. A total of $7,197 was raised which will go directly to research for this debilitating disease. It is that time of year again when the Council and all the Clubs are asked to pay their annual membership dues. Please go to the following web address: Enter in your club information and write a check for $5 for your club plus $1 for each of your Primary members. A primary member is one who pays their annual insurance through your club. Print out four copies of these forms. Keep one for your records and mail three copies along with the check to the Council at my address as follows: Bill Freyfogle, Treasurer, SE 63rd Street Bellevue, WA Please send this to me in April. Absolute deadline is the May 2nd at the Council Meeting. Later this month you will be contacted by the State Federation for the annual insurance dues. You will respond to Richard Snyder at the State Federation. Glen Shaw added, be sure your membership information is correct because that is what they use for the State Directory as well. 10 Page 10, HCubed March 2018 PS: One quick reminder, since we don t want to get the old boot please consider signing up for the Winthrop Square Dance Festival prior to Sept 1. This is a very fun event and a chance to follow-up the Happy Hopper victory in 2016 when we had the largest number of members that pre-registered and received the golden horseshoe (we don t want the boot again) like last year. Mmmm, that chocolate is going to taste even better this year!!!!

Jean Raymond reminded members at the meeting yesterday to contact her (Jean knows the best RV spots), so she can make a reservation to get the Happy Hoppers usual camping spot (if you have an RV) at the KOA campground south of Winthrop. 13 Page 13, HCubed March 2018 Happy Hopper Class Coordinator Report Mar. 13, 2018 We had a great turnout for the 4 Mainstream Strengthening Workshops with Steve Noseck. We had a party on the last workshop night and provided Steve a $100 bonus (pending club approval). The breakdown of attendees and money collected: Feb participants, 6 squares ($294 including 1 prepay for next 3 sessions) Feb participants, 5 squares ($264) Mar participants, 5 squares ($252) Mar participants, 5 squares ($246) Our recent Hopper graduates (& now members) continue to attend dances and are having a great time! We did lose 1graduate/member (Carol Nichols) due to other commitments she said she had a great time learning to dance and enjoyed her time with the Hoppers.
