2 Egg Artists Guild of Washington Minutes for February 15, 2014 The meeting was called to order by Laura Burt-Thorpe in Fern Swanson s absence at 10:30 am. 24 members attended. There were no new visitors. There were no corrections to the minutes. The Treasures report was given by Colleen Stillbower. Old Business: Diana Stacy is demonstrating a class in gold foil technique today. The price is $ Janie Blair s class in April is cancelled. Karen Lusby will tentatively be teaching instead. Pat Rennick will be teaching a cut egg in May. Laura Burt-Thorpe said that the June kids class will possibly be a chick hatching out of an egg shell or one with a wind up toy. Fern will be teaching a Marcia Robbins designed ornament for $ in August. The Show Committee report was given by Terry Ackley and Betsy Shields. They are in the process of proofreading the paperwork and expect the ARIS to be out in a couple of weeks. There will be some exclusive designs for our show. (These designs won t be available to be sold at other shows until the following year.) The Show Committee is looking for eggs to be donated for door prizes. They would like someone to volunteer to man the club table. Your job would be to get eggs together, set up and take down the table. Your $ show entry fee will be waived for your efforts. They are also looking for more raffle eggs to be made for the show. Please contact Thelma Lewis. There will be Make and Takes on Thursday and Saturday and Meet and Greet demos on Friday. They will also have the showroom open for a one hour sneak peek in order to browse and shop after the Friday demos. New Business: A flyer was passed around announcing two classes that will be taught by Russ Hagen on the weekend of April 5 th and 6 th. The first one is called Founding Fathers and will be taught on Saturday, 10:00 am at the Pyramid Masonic Temple, 1700 S. 340 th St. Federal Way. Please contact Mary Lewis (253) if you are interested in attending. The second class is called Jeweled Swan Surprise and will be taught on Sunday, 10:00 am at the Monroe Masonic Lodge, 125 S. Lewis St., Monroe. Please contact Fern Swanson ( 360) if you are interested in attending. The price of each class is $ Colleen Stillabower will be looking into setting up a Facebook page for the club. Round Robin Egg. Fern would like all of the eggers to coordinate with her on its design/paint/completion. Terry Ackley made a motion that the egg, once completed, be donated to the club in order to be raffled off to benefit Hospice at the show. The idea was seconded by Stephanie Ruoff. The volunteer eggers are: Marking = Terezia Pillar, Cutting = Fern Swanson, Painting = Karen Lusby/Kim Humbarger, Cording = Anne Johnson/Diane Marks/Colleen Stillabower, Mounting = Lynne Ready, Finishing the interior = Thelma Lewis/Fern Swanson. There is a Miniature show on March 1 & 2 at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton, Southcenter Parkway, Tukwila.

3 There was a big discussion regarding the newsletter with many ideas floated in order to cut down on the ads and save on the size (6+ pages) and cost of printing it. It was suggested that the ads be put on the outside of the opening page of the newsletter, or have repetitive ads placed at the beginning of the year and remain for a 30 day period or have a minimal charge for ads. There was another idea to post ads on a separate board where members of the Guild would be able to post them for free. To start with, a motion by Anne Johnson and seconded by Colleen Stillabower was passed that stated the newsletter will now be printed in black and white with only the egg page(s) printed in color. There was also discussion whether we should replace the printer as the cost of the ink is very expensive or do a price comparison of where to get ink at a better rate. It was suggested that Costco.com has the best prices on ink. Karen Lusby made the motion to explore replacing the printer with Laura Burt-Thorpe seconding. Raffle bags were won by Trinity Ruoff, Katherine McCort and Vivian Clawson. The 50/50 prize of $12.00 was also won by Vivian Clawson. Show & Tell: Katherine McCort brought in a one step looper purchased at Hobby Lobby. It is used for making perfect loops on the ends of your head or eye pins. She said it is a little pricy but to look for a coupon on the internet or get the Hobby Lobby app for your smart phone. Laura Burt-Thorpe brought in samples of the beaded egg class that she will be teaching in March. She also had a kaleidoscope as well as a Marilyn Powers doll with a pale pink and rhinestones on the lace. Lots of bling! Nancy Bass had a large Marilyn Powers oriental doll. Cindy Sanders had a fairy egg (along with a great idea on how she fixed and concealed a broken section of the egg). Leanne Tracy has been very busy and brought in four Valentines themed eggs, a giraffe, a mermaid and a beaded jewel box with a giant pearl inside. For Sale: Pat Rennick has eggs for sale. Colleen Stillabower has paint storage containers ($ 1.00) and battery operated erasers ($ 6.00). Submitted by Lisa Finelli, Secretary
