1 Junior Newsletter August 2014: The tennis season is upon us and is time to take to the courts again! So grab those racquets and come on down & play some tennis. I hope you are all looking forward to the coming summer of tennis we have a season full of activities. Starting with Junior Open Day, Friday Night Junior Club Night, Club Coaching Programme, our local Schools & Club Partnership Programme & Junior Interclub. This is the last week to register your interest in playing interclub. We welcome all ages and stages from Novice beginner to advance. Read on Junior Open Day and Registration: September 14th 9am 12. For the 2014/2015 tennis season we would like to welcome back all existing players as well as new members at our Junior Open Day & Registration. It will be on wet & fine. Fun morning for you all. Try out the giant racquets, check your skills against the ball machine! Some Demo racquets will be available from Thump Sports. So come & Ju play some tennis. Loads of fun & exercise for all the family. Open day is free so bring a friend down who is keen to play tennis racquets & balls supplied! Mini tennis ball pop cakes for each child that registers on the day! So don t miss out. Morning tea will be provided. Needing parents to

2 Junior Interclub Give it a go this Summer...last week to register your interest in playing interclub for the club for the coming season with Karen Wong: karenwong@clear.net.nz Don t miss out register your interest by 31 August. (See attached flyer) Junior Interclub competition; Friday Night Regional Boys. (4.30pm / 5pm) Renouf Centre Saturday: Regional Boys & Girls grades (9am) Wellington Girls Novice grades (9am) Sunday: Wellington A, B, C, D, Boys Novice & 10/U (AM) Junior Interclub Dates Pre-Xmas: October 17th - 5th December (7 week period) with reserve weekend December. Despite some rather chilly days coaching sessions progress on! We are very thankful to the Infinity Foundation for their support & funding. Club Group Coaching will be the same as last year we will try and fit you into the times & days you request. Please make our job easier by indicating clearly & quickly your coaching preferences on the Registration/Membership form that will be available at the Open Day. 2

3 Register Interest In Playing Interclub: Hi there everyone I realise that winter sports are still in full swing and that summer seems a long way away but its time to start thinking about tennis. Team entries for pre-xmas junior interclub are due on 14th September so we are asking for your indications of interest in playing this summer. If you (or your children) played junior interclub last year and are interested again this year please send me an by 31 August with the names of those who would be keen to play to karenwong@clear.net.nz For those who have not played before we would really encourage you to consider giving it a go. There are novice grades which are particularly for those who have not played interclub before and in these games parents can help with those starting out particularly with the scoring. Novice girls games are played on Saturday morning with the novice boys playing on Sunday mornings. Other grades are all played on Sunday morning and takes about 2 hours. Each player plays two games. The cost for interclub is on top of club registration fees and coaching fees. The cost will be about $20 for pre-xmas and about the same for post-xmas interclub. If you are keen and wish to talk to someone about it - please talk to Mark Parsonage (the club coach) who is down at the club on most days after school with coaching, or Karen Wong or Paula Ash You can also send me an to register interest or ask questions at karenwong@clear.net.nz. 4 Have a GO this summer... Vogelmorn Tennis Club Junior Summer INTERCLUB Have you enjoyed your introduction to tennis through recent coaching programmes? Do you want to learn Vogelmorn Tennis Club can offer you an opportunity to start playing interclub from a basic NOVICE level where you will learn to serve and score with help from the sidelines. The summer interclub season is broken into 2 seven week blocks referred to as pre/ post Christmas competitions. These games are played as a round robin against other club teams of the same ability for 2 hours on either Saturday (for Novice Girls & upper Regional teams) or Sunday mornings (for all other grades). Interclub fee approx $20 each child, each block, for registered Vogelmorn Junior Members. how to score and how to play singles & doubles with your tennis friends? Do you want to join a junior tennis team THIS summer season to play with and against other kids of your age & ability at the weekend? YES! I want to JOIN INTERCLUB... BE QUICK... A great resource on what the club has to offer, news and advents of the club. I will be standing down as junior convenor this season and Paula Ash will be taking over the role. I would like to thank many of the parents for their help and support with; Interclub, BBQ s, club days & club championships, junior club shirts (etc.) it has made my role easier. Special thanks to Mark, Raewyn, Karen & in particular Paula for their commitment and time to the junior programme. Also to Sharon, our club secretary, with the increase in members there has come a corresponding increase in your work, thank you for your support with this and willingness to help our funding & junior activities. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club & meeting you all and I wish you all the best with your tennis! I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Paula and her team & the junior club, every bit of success and fun with coming tennis activities.
