Next meeting will be March 12, Happy Hoppers are a member organization and all members are welcome to attend meetings and be on the board, volunteer as committee chairs or participate in the activities necessary to run our member organization. If you haven t attended a meeting, please come and share your ideas!!! President s Message Hello Happy Hoppers, Cindy and I are very tired of the snow, and suspect you are too. We would have been just fine with one of those winters where we get little or no snow. But we have to deal with whatever Mother Nature throws at us. With regards to square dancing, virtually every club cancelled at least one dance. But for experienced square dancers, missing a few dances over a couple weeks is just an inconvenience. When the dances resume we will go back to dancing without missing a beat. For our new dancers, it is a different story. They have just been exposed to some of the more complex moves in lessons, and now they have had to take a couple weeks off from dancing. Our Happy Hopper students missed a Happy Hoppers student dance and at least one other student dance. We are only able to make up one of the two lessons we had to cancel. So our students will graduate on February 18, but with a little less instruction and dance time than normal. So if you see someone with a Happy Hopper badge at a dance and you don t recognize them, consider that they may be a recent graduate and could use a little encouragement and help getting out on the floor and dancing. For members who have been Angels at our lessons, you can recognize our recent graduates. Please help get them out on the dance floor. We all needed a little help at this stage of our square dance journey, and our current graduates are no different. Soon they will be dancing up a storm. Thanks. Eric Selby Happy Hoppers President

4 Page 4, HCubed February 2019 Happy Hopper Lessons Coordinator Report The final two classes of our 2018/19 lessons were cancelled due to record SNOW fall but we finally held the graduation on February 18th and graduated 40 students, of which 38 joined our HH club this year! A BIG Thank You to all the Angels from our HH Club, and other clubs, that came out throughout the lesson season and helped make our lessons successful. A breakdown of participants and money collected is as follows: Jan. 14: 32 students, 25 Angels (23 HH, 2 other clubs), 7 squares ($150 cash) Jan. 21: No class - holiday Jan. 28: 36 students, 27 Angels (25 HH, 2 other clubs), 6 squares ($171 cash) Feb. 4: snow day lesson cancelled (rescheduled to Feb. 18) Feb. 11: snow day lesson cancelled (rescheduled to Feb. 18) Feb 18: xx students, xx Angels (xx HH, other clubs), x squares ($xxx cash) And Graduation! We had 6 of our HH students and 1 HH Angel that went to the Rainbow Squares student level dance on Saturday Jan HH students and 13 HH Angels were at the Feb. 1 First Friday Funfest at The Hayloft. The Feb. 8 Mt Baker Singles had their Valentine Dance cancelled due to snow, and our Happy Hopper student dance with Gary Monday on Feb. 10 was also cancelled due to snow. Continuing with that trend, the Sky Valley Whirlwinds student dance on Saturday, Feb. 16 was also cancelled due to snow! We have contracted with the Marysville school to open the cafeteria on Feb. 18 even though there is no school to make up for our Feb. 4 cancellation. We may hold another makeup day due to the Feb. 11 lesson cancellation. Our series of 4 Mainstream Strengthening Workshops with Steve Noseck commence on February 25 on Mondays from 7-9pm, $6 per dancer. Pam Santee ~ HH Class Coordinator Our lesson instructor, Dave Harry, has recently requested that we change our lessons from 16 weeks to 20 weeks. He is making similar changes where he teaches for other clubs. The Hoppers voted at the Tuesday HH meeting to accept Dave's proposal, so next year our lessons will be 20 weeks.~~~ Eric Selby

Mainstream Workshops Strengthening with Steve Noseck After the lessons and graduation Steve is teaching a series of four workshops for the Happy Hoppers. We encourage everyone to turn out for this lively workshop. The workshops start Monday, February 25th and will continue March 4, March 11, March 18 from 7-9 p.m. Recent graduates and Mainstream dancers from all clubs are invited to join us for some fun dancing with Steve Noseck. Classes will be at the Totem Middle School Cafeteria th Street (enter off 8 th Street) in Marysville. $6 per person, dress is casual. We need $25 each year from each member who wants to continue to be in the club. Of that, $6 goes to the Mount Baker Council and State Federation. Please note that our new graduating students that are joining our club as of February 11, 2019 have already paid their dues for this upcoming 2019/2020 year. For the rest of us, please submit $25 per person by cash or check (made out to Happy Hoppers) to Eric or Cindy by March 1. Thank you! Please mark your calendar for Tuesday April 9th At our Happy Hoppers club meeting Tuesday evening, Doug Newman reported on the various venues he contacted regarding our April 9 Happy Hoppers Dinner. The size of the club and expected attendance at the dinner really limits our options and prevents everyone ordering off the menu. After much discussion, the club voted to have our dinner at Olive Garden in Tulalip. To attend the dinner, you will need
