2 DIRECTIONS TO SUN CITY CIVIC HALL Ond March 6 th, the Twirlers will be moving the class/workshop again. We will be dancing in the Sun City Civic Hall, Bldg. N on the north side of the Sun City Civic Assn. complex. Bldg. N is just east of the Cherry Hills Golf Course (the Sun City golf course) which is at Cherry Hills Blvd., Sun City. The Sun City Civic Hall itself does not have an address recognized by Google maps. There is a sign on the building with an N, a small sign that says Civic Hall and another sign on the other end that says Billiards Directions: From I-215 in Menifee, exit McCall Blvd and go west 0.4 miles to Sun City Blvd. Turn left on Sun City Blvd. and go 0.4 mi to Cherry Hills Blvd (the first signal). Turn right and go about 0.3 miles. Building N is on the left. (Windsor Dr. coming from the right ends at the driveway into the parking lot.) You might want to turn left into the parking lot at the first driveway (Winged Foot comes in from the right) after you make the turn on to Cherry Hills Blvd. From the Elsinore, Wildomar, Canyon Lake area, take Railroad Canyon/Newport Road to Murrieta Road 2.8 miles. Left on Murrieta Rd for 1.8 miles to Cherry Hills Blvd. Turn right on Cherry Hills Blvd for.5 mile. Then just past Pebble Beach Road, turn right into parking lot. Civic Hall will be on the right. Address for Civic Hall is technically Cherry Hills Blvd. (Google doesn t recognize this ad-
3 Visitation Calendar Club Dance: Sunday Mar 11, :30 pm - 5:00 pm 44th Ann Shamrjock Shashay Howard Delcambre cueing Randall & Holmes calling Kay Ceniceros Sr. Center Evans (at Newport) Menifee, CA Official Visitation: Sunkissed Squares Rock Around the Clock Saturday March 24, ;30 PM Cuer: Howard Delcambre Caller: Charlie Robertson Redlands Community Center 111 West Lugonia Ave Redlands, CA Scatter Visitation: Cowtown Square Dance Center March 25, :00 PM Class level dance Phil Farmer calling Cowtown Square Dance Center Van Buren Blvd Riverside, CA Out Visiting: WHO WENT VISITING IN JANUARY? David & Merrie Ann Franks, and Beth Call represented the Twirlers at the Redlands B n B s Anniversary Dance on February 3rd. Twirlers had much better representation at Riverside Single Swinger s USO Benefit Dinner and Dance on February 23rd. Dancing to Vic & Shauna Kaaria were David & Merrie Ann Franks, Jan & Jerry Guffey, Valerie & Mike Perkins, Earlean Wagner, Joe & Vi Henderson, Alex Hernandez, Michele Polley, Cynthia Neil, Bob & Carole Stoops and Bill & Jackie Brown. Our own Joe Henderson won a prize as the highest-ranking officer in attendance. Dancing to caller Terri Sherrer at the Cowtown 4th Sunday Class dance were Class members Cathy Luchsinger, Sally Ritschel, Dave Old with friend and Angel Joyce, and David Ewing with Angel Marylou Hofmann. Other Angels there to support the class were Al & Carol Pitchard, Earlean Wagner, Emmy Bell, Jolan Gambol, Michele Polley with friend Don, Eileen Johnson, and Bill & Jackie Brown. Several calls were a bit of a challenge for the new dancers but all the Class members can be proud of how well they danced. A big THANK YOU to all the Angels who attended. Class dances qualify as a visitation. All Club members who attended the Class dances will have their names added to the visitation can for each dance they attended. It might not have been a visitation but Twirlers traveled to Temecula to dance to Mike Sikorski at the Grapestompers Red Rose Ball on February 17th. Dancing to Mike s fast paced calling were Andy & Lorie Abeles, Bill & Jackie Brown, Jan & Jerry Guffey, Valerie & Mike Perkins, Melinda Townsend, and Bob & Carole Stoops. It s a lot of fun to go dancing with other Club members. Check the newsletter for the official visitations each month and watch for announcements each week where members are going dancing. Other Clubs are noticing and commenting that they need to come visit us. SUNSHINE Say a prayer for our friends that have not been well lately, give them a call, send a card or to let them know you care. Lucy Perry Hospital Please contact Karin Sanchez at or tbirdmom@hotmail.com if you know of a club member that needs some Sunshine spread their way! 4 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Merrie Ann and I will mostly be AWOL this month. We are taking a trip to Israel. We have been looking forward to this for 25 years. If we get a free evening we are going to look up a local square dance club and try to dance. Remember the language of Square Dance is English all over the world. Please come out and support the new class. Without Angels it will not succeed. Remember to be open and friendly to each person that comes. You may be the difference between them not coming back and them still dancing in 20 years. If you are an Angel in a square remember to look around and make sure that all class members are up and in a square. If they are not then step out and give them your place. Also, please support the Plus workshop, it's for you. If you have trouble with a particular call let Bob know what it is and he will make sure to work on it. At our dance on March 11th keep an eye out for my beloved Co-President Earlean. She will be missing a lot of her help that day. As well as us, Jackie and Bill will also be missing. We will return on the 22nd of March. It's a 15+ hour non-stop in each direction so wish us well. Have Fun Dancing Something New is Coming : There will be something new coming in March. To provide Sun City residents with the opportunity to try square dancing, the Twirlers will be holding an Introduction to Square Dancing class from 6:00 to 7:00 each Tuesday. Menifee residents will also be invited. The format will be more like a casual, fun community square dance where anyone can join any Tuesday. We will continue this format for the month of March and possibly April until we see if there is enough interest to start a class. We have flyers. Take some--spread the word in your community and encourage your friends and neighbors to come and try it. This is not just for Sun City Core residents. NEW WORKSHOP TIMES: (Angels needed at all levels) 6:00 7:00 Introduction to Square Dancing 7:10 8:15 Mainstream Class 8:15 9:00 Advanced Plus Workshop BOARD MEETING BRIEFS: OLD BUSINESS: Yard sale canceled because of predicted inclement weather. Watch for a new date. You can still bring any items you may have to Tuesday Workshop/Class or contact David Frans or the Browns. NEW BADGES: Many of the Twirlers are wearing the new Club badge. We will be sending in another order early in March. If you would like to purchase one, contact Dale, Susie, or Jackie. Cost for the new badges is $10. NEXT MEETING: March 21, :00 PM Sun City Civic Hall-Bldg N Next to Cherry Hills Golf Course Cherry Hills Blvd Sun City, CA CLASS NOTES: Our class is learning Mainstream calls. They are all looking forward to the time when they will be able to attend our monthly dances. Meanwhile, they are attending class dances to practice what they are learning. Tell Us All About it! What is a Visitation Pot? The Visitation Pot is a drawing that was originated as an incentive for Club members to attend Club visitations and dances. All club members names are put in a pot each month, Every time a member goes on an official or scatter visitation for that month, his or her name is added to the "pot". This increases their chances of winning. Then, each month at our dance, a name is drawn. If that person has attended at least one visitation the previous month and is at that dance, they win the money in the Visitation Pot. Extra names are taken out of the pot after the drawing and all members start the next month with the same chance to win. How Much Money The pot starts out with $10. Each month, if there is no winner, $5 is added to the pot.
5 Why I Square Dance Untitled Why do I so love too Square Dance? I shall now try to explain. I think that the truth of my interest Is because it is good for my brain. I know women can be confusing. Their messages can contradict, But just what are they telling us, When their instructions conflict? I do like to move in good circles, And touch hands with the people in power, But the dance times I've had with others, Are more than an exercise hour. Her badge says Twirlers, The badge includes her first name, She wears a small sign with instructions, That clearly refutes this claim. It's true that I' moving my body, And burning up calories galore, But the best benefit of this party Are to the brain cells that I can restore. Why did she join the Twirler A club which clearly suits her to a tee. And then wear a sign that says clearly, "Please --- Don't Twirl Me." You do have to walk in a circle, And Twirl round the dance floor, But the benefit that is most welcome, Is that I know what the calls are all for
