3 PRESIDENT......Jim Aspaas & Mary Martin Rustlers Newsletter Presidents report March, 2017 We hope that you have escaped the dreaded flu this season and have been able to enjoy dancing. We had a great time at the Sweetheart s Ball which honored our own, Mike & Cheri Root. We have a number of visitations with great callers like Mike Seastrom, Mike Haworth and David Mee, and we encourage as many of you who are able to come out and have some fun! First we want to thank our great board and the wonderful worker bees who get everything set up and organized for dances and activities. This allows our club to run smoothly and efficiently. They do a great job and we want you, our club members, to know what is happening. Now after every board meeting when the previous month s minutes are approved, Vel will be ing those out to you. Johnny Preston will be our wonderful caller for our Feb. dance and will be followed by Mike Seastrom and Pat Carnathan on March 24 th. Lisa Schreiber did an amazing job as Caller Booker for the past four years and has passed the baton onto Carol Woodcock who is also doing a very fine job. Thanks to both of you for all of your labors so that we can dance to some of the best Callers out there. There are many social events that are being planned by Florence Bell, Sharon Flowers, Carol Woodcock and Edrea McCreary. You won t want to miss joining us at the Nixon Library on Feb. 20 th (Free Admission) followed by a no-host dinner. The class level Leprechaun Ball (Buena Park Recreation Center) on Sunday March 12 th features multiple Callers and is perfect for those of you who need to brush up on your dancing skills. Come in your green costume and win a prize! Hugs, Jim & Mary VICE PRESIDENT...Carol Woodcock As your VP I would normally be in charge of the class. However there is not a class this year. I'm doing lots of jobs for the club. I'm helping out with Activities and am working on an afternoon at the theatre. A Neil Simon comedy called Rumors. At the Attic Theatre in Santa Ana. It will be Sun April 23rd at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be on sale soon. I'm also the Caller Booker and have some great to callers Booked. The dances are going to be so much fun. I am new at doing chuck wagon, so I will try to do my best For our March 25th dance the theme is TIME FOR SPRING. and Mike Seastrom is calling Happy Birthday MARCH BIRTHDAY S 8th Albert Tjon 15th Ray Mejorado 24th Janie Moore We are asking the club to help out snacks. We will do this by alphabet like we did for the anniversary dance. 5 Carol Woodcock Carol has been a member of the Rustlers in a round-about way since the beginning of the club. Her parents were Charter members when they danced in a trailer park in Anaheim with Ron Russell beginning in Carol babysat the Russell s children during those first classes and dances. Best of all, Carol loved the square dance outfits, especially the beautiful clothing that Ron s wife, Shirley, sewed with satins and laces. While in high school in Huntington Beach, she began dancing with the Sweetheart Squares. Men really dressed up then, wearing long sleeve Western shirts, cowboy hats and boots. For Carol, these fantastic outfits added greatly to the fun. Carol was born in the Bronx, NY and came to Southern California at two. With two brothers, one who has passed, and then her own two children and two grandsons, six and five years, her family has been the highlights of her life, especially those adorable little boys. Besides enjoying family fun and her daughter s husband s surf bands, Carol loves gardening, bowling and theater. Some of her favorite foods include Mexican, Italian, some sushi and her alltime favorite, grilled cheese sandwiches dipped in tomato soup. Yum! She regularly brings her almost 94 year old Dad, Al, to lunch to try out new and interesting foods. For 37 years, Carol has loved her profession as a Registered Dental Assistant. It has been a dream job that she will do for another three years before her retirement. Then she plans to do more traveling, especially to Hawaii and the Caribbean. The Rustlers are grateful that Carol has lots of enthusiasm and energy and has agreed to act as Vice-President. Because there is no class this year, she has accepted lots of other jobs including Caller Booker, Social Media, helping with Activities and does anything that she s asked to do, cheerfully. Thanks, Carol! VISITATIONS: We have had good turnouts for our visitations so far this year. I am so glad. It is great to see you all in a square. Square dancing is such good exercise as we all already know. So lets stay young and fit by getting out there. It is such a good time for all of u us to see friend we don't always have a chance to see. AND YOU ALL KNOW HOW MUCH FUN WE HAVE WHEN WE ARE IN A SQUARE.
