2 Farewell Wilbur In September we received the news that another long time Twirler had passes away. Many of us have many fond memories of dancing with Twirler Life Member and Golden Dancer Wilbur Sanchez. Wilbur was that elderly gentleman with the white goatee and the twinkle in his eye. He was an avid dancer and supporter of square dancing, locally, nationally and internationally. He belonged to many of the Clubs in the Inland area and served on the Twirler, Grape Stomper and CCHA Boards. He wasn t able to dance as much this past year because of his health, but whenever he could, we d see him at our dances and workshops with his wife Karin. His death is a great loss to the square dance community. We are dedicating our October dance to our friend and fellow dancer, Wilbur.

3 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Why does the Club have visitations? Visitations show support for other Clubs and hopefully will encourage other Clubs to visit us. Last year the Twirler Board surveyed the Club members to determine what clubs the members liked to visit and what callers they liked to dance to. Based on the results of that survey, each month the Board selects two dances for the Twirlers to visit. We try to pick ones that you d like. Carpools are arranged for dancers who don t want to drive themselves. Still, very few of our dancers attend the visitations. Getting out and dancing to other callers is a lot of fun, will help improve your dancing skills and you have a chance to meet a lot of really nice people who may come to one of our dances. Let s see if we can get a better turnout in the future. Take a look at the Twirler calendar and choose one of the visitations scheduled for that month. Then, put it on your calendar and we hope to see you in a square.. SUNSHINE Say a prayer for our friends that have not been well lately, give them a call, send a card or to let them know you care. VISITATION POT: There was no drawing from the Visitation Pot at the September Dance. Club members who were out visiting in August and September will be eligible for the drawing at the October dance. CLASS NOTES Our class started slowly this year but has grown each week. We have a lot of enthusiastic new dancers and we hope they will continue. When you see a class member, be sure and introduce yourself. We have a reputation for being a friendly club and we want to make all the new people feel welcome so they will want to stay. We need mentors Angels who will take a class member under their wing and be their special friend. We will be asking for mentor volunteers in the coming weeks.

4 TWIRLER BOARD NOTES: There was concern about the small number of people who came to our first class. Without a reasonably large class and good attendance by Angels, we cannot afford to continue the class or the Wednesday workshop. We will look at the class numbers again at the October meeting. If our class is cancelled, aside from our Club dance in November, we will not schedule class dances this year. The Club will have to schedule fundraisers to off-set the losses from poor attendance at our dances. Something to try: mini Experienced Clothing Sales at all of our dances. The Board is searching for a Charitable Cause we can sponsor a Fundraiser for. One suggestion was for a Canyon Lake resident who was in need of financial assistance because of medical problems. Barbara volunteered to investigate and return to the Board with more information. Next Board meeting: Monday,October 17th at 7:00 in the Magnolia Room at the Canyon Lake Golf Course Clubhouse. Dinner before at Pepe s at 5:30. Everyone welcome. OUT VISITING: It was so exciting to see all the Twirlers who turned out for the Camping Square s dance on September 3rd. It was reported that Earlean Wagner. Muriel Greenwood, Marylou Hofmann, Chris Burns, Darleen Romanko, Dale Houser, Eileen Johnson, Lucy & Lee Perry, Carole & Bob Stoops, Alex Hernandez, and Susie King got to do a lot of dancing and had a lot of fun On September 9th, Charlie Roberson did a great job calling for the Riverside Single Swingers 58th Anniversary Dance. There to help the Single Swingers celebrate were Lisa & Fred Bates, Alex Hernandez, Bruce Warren, Earlean Wagner, and Bill & Jackie Brown On September 24th, Fred & Lisa Bates, Earlean Wagner, Susie King, Alex Hernandez, Andy & Lorie Abeles, and Bill & Jackie Brown travelled to Redlands to attend the Sunkissed Squares 24th Anniversary Dance. (If you missed dancing to Andy Allemao in Redlands, you ll have another chance in October when he is calling for the arico Quails Anniversary dance. DON T MISS HIM AGAIN! And, it s a Twirler visitation.)
