5 Club Chatter... Do Paso Squares by Edie Kildow What a great time in King City, looking forward to Bakersfield Fiesta March 9-21, try to fit that into your schedule. Don't forget your green, St. Patrick's Day March 17th. Even with rainy Thursdays our dedicated dancers showed up and bless Darren for driving so far in bad weather to keep us dancing. Thank you all, come join us and find out how much fun we have. Darren will be calling March 11 & 25th and April 8 & 22nd. The Hoedowners by Shirley Hanrion We are having a lot of enjoyment helping the new dancer class every Tuesday evening. This makes the 4th year we have added this to our weekly "Dos." The class has shifted up and down somewhat, which happens every beginning of the class year, students finally figure out if they are going to stay or not for the dedication it takes. Dave Rensberger is a great teacher, we never know how he is going to start the class until we see it each year as it changes like his surfing tides. He had them all doing the Grand Square the first night! We are looking forward to having two great callers in our midst in March. Dennis Mineau will be calling for us on March 14, and Phil Farmer will be doing us the honors on March 28. The Ferraros and David Cleek will be cueing the dances, respectively. Dennis Mineau enjoys coming to California once or twice a year, and he is a very good caller. We talked to Phil Farmer recently, and found him quite willing to grace our Central Coast this year with his presence. His face is one we have not seen here for awhile in our areas, and we are looking forward to having him call for us. Our congratulations go to our members Lorna Glenn and Brian Yellin who were married on February 14 in Las Vegas. They met each other at a square dance a few years back. Hopefully, their lives won't get so busy they will forget how they first met, and will continue to enjoy their future years by also keeping square dance activity in their lives.
6 SQUAWS & PAS March is a busy month for our Square and Round Dancers. March 5-7 is Wing Ding in Sonora, March 13th is our Round Dance Party at the YMCA- no square dancing, March is the Bakersfield Fiesta and March 27th is our square dance at the YMCA with Dave Rensberger calling. John and Margaret Sekishiro were in Mesa Arizona for part of Jan. and Feb. dancing. Pete Peterson had meniscus surgery and did very well. He was even seen dancing at our dance on Feb. 13th. Ron Peterson, a round dancer in our club who has had various health concerns in the last few months came home from Convalescent care on Feb. 7th and is getting physical therapy at home. He would enjoy calls ( ). We hope to see you all at our Round Dance Party the 13th of March and our SQ. Dance on the 27th. PISMOS N TAWS CHATTER LETTER March 2010 By: RayAnn Crouse Hello everyone and Happy Spring! Yep, Spring is here this month. We always have such nice weather here not quite the same for us as it is for those back east who are, as I write this, still in the middle of snowmageddon. What a winter they have had. We have had a great winter so far, with terrific callers and great attendance at our dances and workshops. Thanks to all of you for joining us. For next month we will be celebrating Shamrocks a little early. We hope to see you all wearing green on March 6th, when Johnny Preston will be here to do the calling and our own Karen McDonald will be cueing. We will be dark on March 20th so that all of our dancers can travel to Bakersfield for their Fiesta. If you can make it to the Fiesta, be sure and do so. We have seen so many of our Square Dance Associations in California lose their weekend festivals due to the economy and lack of participation. Our own Square Affair was one of them as was the SCVSDA Festival in Tulare (I believe that is the Association that sponsored the February Festival). These were both wonderful, fun weekends. Let s help keep Bakersfield Fiesta going strong. In April we will be looking forward to having Rick Hampton calling on the 3rd and Andy Allemao on the 17th. Karen will be cueing for both of those dances as well. Oh, and don t forget our Thursday night Advanced Workshop! We would like to send out a big Thank You to Dave and Susan Cleek for serving as our Club Coordinators/Presidents for the months of September through December. Thanks also to all of you who were there to help them out. Our Club Coordinators for January through March are Don and Karen Lenker. A big thank you goes to them and all of you who have volunteered to take a turn and keep our club running strong. This is a bit of an experiment, but so far it seems to be a great idea. As times change, we must change with the times. In the area of membership news, I recently received a call from Charlotte Wright letting me know that Sherm s sister (and fellow Pismo N Taws member) Jerry Trager has had a series of strokes and is currently in rehab in Santa Barbara. Jerry is one of the sweetest ladies I have had the privilege to know, and over the years she has been a very supportive member of our club. Charlotte tells me she is working hard and has shown some good improvement, however I know that prayers, love and good thoughts from all of us can only help speed up the healing process. We are all thinking of you Jerry..get better really soon.
