1 Hershey, Pennsylvania February/March 2019 Hershey School of Dance News School Closing Policy Only when Derry Township Schools close early or cancel classes due to inclement weather will Hershey School of Dance also close. Announcements will be made on the HSD Facebook page, Instagram and CBS21 television. Please refer to your HSD brochure calendar for all other closings and important dates for the remainder of the dance year. ATTENDANCE Teachers have begun working on choreography for our May performances. It is very important that students attend all of their scheduled classes. Please inform your teacher or the office of any lengthy absences. Reminder! As noted in the brochure you received with your class confirmation last fall: 1. Classes can not be made up after March 1 due to show preparation. 2. Teachers also reserve the right to reset choreography based on absenteeism. Spring Break The studio will be closed for Spring Break on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. Classes will resume on Monday, April 22. Costumes All costume balance notices were mailed in January. This payment was due on February 1 st. Please be advised that tuition payments must be up to date in order to receive your child s costume. Tuition payments received after the 15 th of the month will incur a $5 per student late fee. Thank you for keeping your account current. Want to advertise in the show program? Do you have a favorite business in town that would like to advertise in our show program? Do you want to advertise your own business? If so, fill out the attached business ad form and return it to the office or the drop box outside of studio 1. Dance Workshop On January 5 and 6, thirty-five dancers from HSD attended Excel In Motion in Lancaster, PA. Excel in Motion is a dance event that brings the most So You Think You Can Dance Headliners of any other convention. Our dancers had the opportunity to take 10 classes in a variety of styles including Contemporary, Animation, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap and Lyrical. They had the privilege of taking these classes from Ellenore Scott, Mollee Gray, Casie Goshow, Lauren Edwards, Lauren Froderman, Cyrus Spencer, Alex Wong, Amelia Lowe, Brandon Bryant, and Aaron Turner. Several HSD dancers were selected for the Excel In Motion Honor Society this year and Jessica Gearhart, Jazmyne Noland, Morgan Owsley and Lexie Corcoran were invited to dance in the exhibition show on Saturday night. For the fourth time, Hershey School of Dance was recognized as a High Honors Studio. Great job dancers! It was a fantastic weekend and all of our dancers returned home feeling inspired (and sore). HSD Out In The Community We love the opportunity to share our dancing at community events! On January 25, a group of HSD dancers performed on Main Street in Hummelstown at The Winter Fling. A big thank you to Miss Bristal for preparing our dancers for this event! Miss Kaylee s Hip Hop 3 and Miss Jenn s Tap 2 classes will be representing American dance during the International Fair Family Night at Hershey Elementary School on March 22. Thank you to all of the dancers who were willing to participate in these events! Hershey School of Dance operating under the Paulette J. Viviano Foundation for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization and admits students of any race, religion and ethnic background.

If you have changed your mailing address or address since the beginning of the school year, please be sure to call the office with that information. Parents, please watch for these packets, which will keep you prepared for the weeks leading up to the recital. Everything you need to know regarding rehearsal times, picture schedules, and video and ticket order forms will be included in this packet. For only $5.00, you have the opportunity to give that special dancer some words of congratulations, support or appreciation. Fill out the attached form and make someone s day! ~Recital Dates~ This year s performances will be held Friday, May 17 th and Saturday, May 18 th at 7:00 p.m. at the Hershey Theatre. There will also be a Saturday afternoon children s matinee on May 18 th at 1:00 p.m. It is imperative that you clear your calendars for the week of May 13 th through May 18 th. Please no jeans, jewelry, or gum chewing. All hair should be pulled back off the face and ballet students must have their hair in a bun. Please refer to your brochure to review the dress codes for your classes. We are aware that there are a few children who will be performing in both the matinee and the evening shows. We will try to schedule those few dancers to perform in Act I of the evening shows so they can be excused after Act I bows. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. And anyone participating in Family Dance with a partner who is only performing in the matinee.
