Hershey, Pennsylvania September/October 2016 Hershey School of Dance WELCOME to the 2016-2017 HSD season! A friendly hello to our new students and welcome back to those returning.

Administrative Office The HSD administrative office is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The office is closed on Fridays.

HSD will be closed for the evening. Have fun and be safe! If you are interested in doing a makeup class for this evening, please speak to your dancer s instructor or call the office at 534-3408.

Here s to another great year of dancing! Congratulations HSD has eighteen graduating seniors this year! Best wishes to them as they complete their final dance year! Administrative Office The HSD administrative office is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The office is closed on Fridays. After hours, please leave a message and your call will be handled as soon as possible. Trick or Treat! Many of the surrounding towns will have trick or treat on Thursday 10/27. HSD will be closed for the evening. Have fun and be safe! If you are interested in doing a makeup class for this evening, please speak to your dancer s instructor or call the office at Tuition Reminders Your first tuition payment made with your registration was for May September s tuition payment was due on Friday, September 23rd. Tuition can be mailed to: Hershey School of Dance P.O. Box 552 Hershey, PA 17033, or it can be placed in our drop box located outside studio #1. Cash or check please. If you wish to discontinue taking a class, you must inform the office or we will continue to bill you for that class. 2 STOP & Park To insure the safety of our students, please park in the designated spaces and escort your younger child into the lobby area. When picking up your student, please refrain from blocking the entrance to the school. Your cooperation will increase visibility to waiting students and greatly improve congestion in our parking lot. Thank you! AWOL ITEMS A quick reminder to parents and students to periodically check the studio s lost and found boxes located outside the girl s restroom. Dance shoes, school clothes, homework, and jewelry accumulate very quickly. We also encourage all of our dancers to put their name in their dance shoes and bags protect your investment! There are also lots of things left from the recital. Please take a look and see if you might have left behind a costume, mirror, or shoes. These things will go to Goodwill at the end of September. Pit Stops If you are a parent of a younger dancer, please take your child to the restroom prior to class so that the class is not interrupted for this purpose. *Dress Code Reminder In an effort to help students excel, we ask that no baggy clothing be worn for any dance classes as teachers must be able to observe and correct body alignment. Also, micro-shorts and other articles of clothing that are too revealing are inappropriate and can be distracting. PLEASE follow the dress code policies that are laid out in the brochure you received at the beginning of the dance year. Any dancer not appropriately dressed for class will not be able to participate. *Attendance policy It is imperative that dancers try not to miss classes! Teachers can advise their students on appropriate classes to make up missed classes. Multiple absences that are not made up may result in a student s demotion to a lower level class. If multiple absences by any one student are not made up before costumes are ordered, they will not be allowed to perform! *NO gum chewing in class! *PLEASE Do not wear dance shoes outdoors! Sneakers worn for hip hop pick up dirt that gets deposited on the dance floors. Cement roughs up metal taps and scratches the marley floors, and suede ballet shoes absorb oil, grease and dirt! *PLEASE Because our studio is located near a hotel and a shopping center, we strongly encourage all dancers to wear a cover-up when walking to and from the studio! REMINDER: Studio doors will open 15 minutes prior to the first class of the day. Attention Parents & Students! HSD will only be closed on the holidays listed in your brochure. During the winter months, we will follow Derry Township School District closings when there is inclement weather only. If you are in need of a brochure, please stop by the office. Shoe Swap HSD is still doing a shoe swap. Give a pair, get a pair. Give your gently used dance shoes to the office, or your teacher and you may pick a pair from our swap group. 3 INTRODUCING OUR FACULTY (Like no other!) Tammy Sibert Executive Director Ballet and Pointe Tammy studied dance in the NYC and NJ area and is a graduate of Point Park College (now Point Park University) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. She has performed with the Red Bank Ballet, Ballet Petrov, Pittsburgh Opera, and Kings Productions. Tammy has been a ballet instructor with HSD since 1995 and the Executive Director since She enjoys sharing her love of dance with all of the HSD dancers. She and her husband Bill are proud parents of daughter, Amanda. Carrie Montgomery Administrative Assistant Tap and Preschool Classes Carrie began dancing at HSD at the age of 6 when the school consisted of only 5 students. She served as the choreographer for 9 Hershey High School musicals and spent many years as a fitness instructor. Carrie currently teaches Pilates at Half Moon Yoga Studio. She has been part of the teaching staff since 1999 and Administrative Assistant since Carrie and her husband Brian have a son, Ben, and a daughter, Kate. Jessica Block Ballet, Pointe and Jazz Jessica was a member of Cumberland Dance Company (currently Pennsylvania Regional Ballet) until She returned to Pennsylvania after 14 years as a dancer, dance captain and Dance Supervisor for Carnival Cruise Lines. Jessica has been an instructor at HSD since While working on the cruise ship, Jessica met her husband, Trevor, and they are the proud parents of their son, Evan. Emily Drobnock Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Emily was a student at HSD since the age of four and loves to still be a part of the Hershey School of Dance family. She has taught for Exhalations Dance Theatre at Duquesne University and Expressions at Millersville University. Emily owns Knock Knock Boutique on Chocolate Avenue. She has been an instructor with HSD since 2012 and was recently wed to her husband, Matt. Kaylee Dugan Kaylee is thrilled to be teaching at Hershey School of Dance. She danced in high school and college while volunteering to teach at The Boys and Girls Club. Kaylee graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelors of Science and is continuing her career in public relations at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts. She is very excited to be in The Sweetest Place On Earth. Hollis Healy Jazz & Theater Dance Hollis is originally from New York state where she grew up studying dance. She attended Penn State University and was a member of their Orchesis Dance Company. Hollis taught modern, tap, ballet, and jazz classes in State College and Harrisburg, as well as kinderdance and special needs classes. Hollis has been an instructor with HSD for since She and her husband Chris have 3 daughters; Caty, Caroline, and Olive. Heidi Moss Ballet Heidi performed extensively throughout Maine and New York during high school and college, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the State University of New York at Purchase. She began her training with the Maine State Ballet and continued her studies with the Boston Ballet and Feld Ballet in New York. Heidi previously taught at Lancaster School of Ballet and has been an instructor with HSD since She and her husband Barry have two daughters; Tori and Emily.

4 Kristen Murray Kristen was a choreographer for cheerleading competitions during high school. After studying hip hop, tap, and jazz for five years and serving as a dance assistant at HSD, she became a member of the hip hop staff in Kristen graduated college with an Associate s Degree in Medical Assisting and is Zumba certified. Kristen is the proud wife to Dustin. Jenn Owsley Tap and Jenn is a graduate of Messiah College, where she danced and choreographed for Acclamation Dance Ministry. She is certified in elementary education and is a substitute for Derry Township School District. A student of HSD since the age of five, Jenn has been a part of the teaching staff since She and her husband Joe are proud parents to their sons Adam and Joey and their daughter Morgan. Emilie Thomas Emilie was a student at HSD for 14 years studying all styles of dance. She joined the staff as a hip hop instructor in Emilie attended Temple University where she continued to study dance and devote her extra time to classes at Koresh Dance Company in Philadelphia. She is a recent graduate with a degree in public relations who is also a certified Zumba instructor. Emile is passionate about sharing her love and commitment of hip hop with all of her students at Hershey School of Dance. Jilian Treadway Tap Jilian was a student at HSD for fourteen years prior to graduating from Lycoming College with a degree in psychology. Jilian enjoys teaching and sharing her love of tap with her young students who are so eager to learn. She has been a tap teacher with HSD since Jilian has two sons; Tanner and Tyler. Bristal Wright Comtemporary and Jazz Bristal comes to us from Utah. She has been dancing since the age of 3 in all styles of dance and competitively competed for her high school dance team, where she served as President of her team and was named Utah All-State Dance Team Member. Bristal continued to dance in college and graduated from Brigham Young University majoring in Exercise Wellness and minoring in Business Management. Most recently, Bristal served as the head coach for her high school dance team where she choreographed and oversaw the success of 34 dancers. Bristal and her husband, Andrew have a son, Grant. Danielle Smith Guillermo Master Class Modern Teacher Danielle is on faculty at Messiah College in the Department of Theatre & Dance. She is an instructor of ballet and modern dance techniques and an awardwinning choreographer. Danielle was previously on staff at HSD from Danielle annually hosts a Day of Dance event to support various charities. Learn more about her work at daniellesmithguillermo.com.
