COFFEE & BREAKFAST TOUR Date: Saturday, July 18, 2015 Place: Hangman Valley Golf Course & Tom Sawyer's Country Coffee For those living in the Valley area, we will meet at Albertsons, 32nd & Pines Rd at 8:00 am, leaving promptly at 8:15 am. For those not wanting to drive to the Valley, please meet at Hangman Golf Course, 2210 E Hangman Valley Rd, at 9:00am. We will have breakfast at the golf course where Tom advises you will get a good cup of coffee! After breakfast, we will drive to Tom & Sandy's home and business. Tom will give us a tour on the roasting and making of coffee. This should be a very interesting morning tour, avoiding the heat of the day. Hope to see you there! PURPOSE OF THE CLUB To serve as a medium of exchange of ideas, information, and parts for owners and admirers of the Model A Ford car, and to aid them in their efforts to restore and preserve the car in its original likeness, as well as other aspects of the Model A hobby. To unite in a central club all persons who are interested in restoring, maintaining, and enjoying the Model A Ford automobile in a manner to attract prestige and respect within the community; and it shall further be the purpose of this Club to help these people become better acquainted, and to encourage and maintain among its members the spirit of good-fellowship; sociality, and fair play through sponsored activities including the use of the Model A Ford and family participation. MEETINGS General The third Monday of each month. Board The first Tuesday after first Monday of each month. MEMBERSHIP DUES: $25.00 per year. Dues are payable to the Inland Empire Model A Club treasurer at the general meeting or mail to our treasurer, Sheila Gibbons, P.O. Box 574, Veradale, WA Membership in the Club as well as MAFCA is from January 1 to December 31 of each year. A New Applicant paying dues on or after November l of each year constitutes payment of the full dues for the ensuing calendar year. Membership in the National club (MAFCA) is a prerequisite for all active members in the local club. 3 JULY, 2015 A TALEPIPE Issue 7 The official publication of the Inland Empire Model A Club, Spokane, Washington President s Message: Summer has really arrived! Couldn't help but notice on our trip to Wallla Walla. It was hot and a couple of our cars got a little cranky but no one broke down. Thanks to all of you who joined us. Everyone had a fun time. Connie and Jim Pierce came down to see the cars and spent the night. Great to see them. Thanks to all the members who gave rides to the residents at Riverview. I appreciate the large turnout. This is one way we pay them back for letting us use their beautiful facility. I love hearing them reminisce about their connection to Model-A's. Next month is the corn feed. This is the best time to socialize with new members so they can get to know the club. We will have the Hubley race as usual. We have no meeting this month so be sure and join us at Eileen's in August. Have a great July! Candi Hoover, President Editor s corner: Our Ice Cream Social meeting went very well this year and the weather was beautiful. A big Thanks to those who brought their Model A s and gave rides. They were Gary Wassom, Dave Henke, Marv Hoover, Richard Gardner and Larry Bonner. As usual the residents enjoyed the cars and the ice cream. Candi & Maureen did a great job dispensing either cones or bowls of ice cream and trying to keep it from melting too fast. Those of us who went to Walla Walla last month had a good time in spite of the heat. The trip down was pleasant, and we found the neatest little pub and grill in a restored fire house in Dayton and had a delicious lunch. There were 182 registered with a total of 168 Model A s and I saw very few trailers, so most of them drove. This was a good turnout of cars in relation to registrations. The trip home was a really hot one! No air conditioning in a Model A. We left in the morning, but couldn t beat the heat. Had breakfast in Pasco and stopping in Ritzville for ice cream that really hit the spot. Please be put on notice regarding the Corn Feed in August. This long hot spell of weather including the nights staying so warm has the corn growing by leaps and bounds. We are keeping a close watch on it because if the weather doesn t break, when it starts to ripen it will be quick. Thus we may have to move our Corn Feed up a week of two. We will send out an advising of such and those who don t have , we will try to reach each of you by phone. Mother Nature is entirely in control this year. Please note on the cover of this newsletter, the tour scheduled for Saturday, July 18th. All details are there, any questions give Jackie Alkier a call. We will resume in September Saturdays 9:00 til noon at Steve s Shop Questions? call Steve NORTHWEST REGIONAL GROUP MEETING Walla Walla - June 26, 2015 As your NWRG representative I attended this meeting along with Candi Hoover, Laura Henke and Jackie Bonner. There was a lot to be discussed at this meeting and after hours of discussion, nothing has been really nailed down yet. There will not be a meet in No chapter willing to host. MAFCA s national meet is this year (2016) in Colorado. Information can be found in the Restorer. The Myrtlewood A s of North Bend, OR have agreed to put together a meet in 2017 to be held in the Coos Bay area, Old Mills Casino, possibly in June. Revised NWRG Meet guidelines that were proposed but never acted upon were as follows: Our meets will be held on the odd years as the National meets are already held on the even years. No conflicts of times of meets then. If the club who wants to host the Regional wants to continue to organize and host the 5-6 day meets and have car judging and fashion judging and the extended meet, that will be acceptable and can be sanctioned by MAFCA If the club wants to host a revised meet, 2-3 days, then the following will be suggested: Registration Desk, Hospitality Room, Repair Tent, Welcome Social, Car Games, Self-guided Tours, NWRG Meeting, possible lunch in a park, possible BBQ in evening and Mike Mears. Not sanctioned by MAFCA. Optional items to add: Raffle Room, Seminars, Hubley Races, Meet logo, License plates, & Welcome packet with goody bags. The registration fee will depend on how many of the optional items are added to the meet. Some of the issues brought forth regarded clubs having trouble securing both Master Car and Fashion Judges. Steve Reilly?, Tacoma agreed to be Car Judging Committee liaison and Jeannie Adair, Portland to be Fashion Judging Committee liaison. Steering Committee. Don Gibbons, Walla Walla volunteered to be a coordinator for meets held by different clubs and Jack Remilliard, Pendleton offered to work with Don on this committee. I for one am not sure where things will go from here. There was a very large group attending the meeting this year and all want to see our meets continue in one form or another. It was stated by some that the whole purpose of these meets is to drive our cars, and to socialize. There were several younger families attending this year and they too want to see things go forward. It was good to see them and to have them express opinions too. It s important to get younger people involved in our hobby and possibly smaller meets will work for them as they will not be so expensive. PAGE 4

5 GENERAL MEETING June 15, 2015 After the car rides and ice-cream social, President Candi Hoover called a short meeting to order on the patio. There were no changes to the Secretary s minutes they were accepted as printed in the A Talepipe. Sheila Gibbons read the treasurers report and it was accepted by vote of the members. The club s CD s were due to roll over in June. The members present voted to roll the smaller over for another five years and put the larger one into a money market account. Eileen LaFrance reported that there are three less chapters in the NWRG and now only 27 clubs remain. Marv Hoover went over a couple of tours that are coming up soon. Watch the A Talepipe for information. Laura Henke has some new club shirts for sale. The price is $28.00 and there is a men s version and ladies version. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. There is no meeting in July. The next meeting will be at the corn-feed on August 16th at Eileen LaFrance s home. Respectfully submitted, Maureen Bledsoe, Secretary FAIRFIELD FLAG DAY PARADE & TOUR This year s weather was perfect parade weather. We had 8 Model A s from our Club, Alkiers, Bonners, Cooks, Gibbons, Henkes, Eileen LaFrance, Gary Wassom, Deborah Schultz with her son and grandson. Gardners, Schmauchs and Jennell Branson cheered us from the galley and Ed & Sue Rutledge drove their 35 with the V8 Club. After the parade, Alkiers led us down thru the Palouse to Tekoa for lunch at The Feeding Station. We had a delicious buffet set up with loads of salads, chicken and huckleberry pie for dessert. The return trip to the Valley was just as nice as the fields were so pretty and green still. Everyone had a great time. It is always fun to decorate our cars with flags and do this parade. If you would like to put together a tour or have an idea for a tour, but would like help putting it together, contact either Marv Hoover or Jackie Alkier. ROCKFORD PARADE Some of you may have noticed that the Rockford Parade has been dropped from our Calendar of Events and our Tour Schedule. I know that a lot of you will be disappointed but the Fair Association has initiated some new items this year including a Liability Disclaimer which needs to be signed by a contact person of our group. The members of your board have read this piece of legal paper and none of us are willing to sign this form. If someone out there wishes to sign, I can send it in still, but your board will not take on the responsibility this form dictates. I have tried to reach out to committee people of the parade to find out if we could enter without signing this paper, but no one seems to want to answer my messages and call me back. This has been going on for almost a month, so it appears we will not be entering. Jackie Alkier and Marv Hoover, your tour chairpeople are working out a short local tour for that Saturday that we can do in honor of International Model A Day. If someone has an idea in mind, please call either one of them. INTERESTING TOUR IDEA When at the N.W. Regional Meet this last June in Walla Walla, we became aware of a tour that Club members might be interested in. The dates for this tour are September 3 thru September 29 starting and ending in Livermore, California. The tour will be traveling through California, Oregon., Washington, Idaho, Montana. Wyoming. and back to Livermore. According to their schedule, they will be spending several days in our area and would like anyone interested to join them for as little as a dinner or possibly travel with them for as long as you are able. Their schedule puts them in Clarkston, WA on Sept. 9 and in Coeur d'alene, Id on Sept. 10 and leaving Sept. 13 for Kalispell, MT. Thanks, Dave & Laura Henke PRESIDENT S TOUR This is a week-end tour to Metaline Falls for the dinner/theater. Candi Hoover has reserved all the rooms for Saturday night at the Circle M Motel in Metaline Falls. Each couple going needs to reserve their room by calling Please let Candi know you are going as she is going to call the dinner theater to reserve our tickets for all of us together. Tickets are $25.00 each for a full course dinner and the theater. Those of you who have went before will remember that the food was very good and the presentation was well done and enjoyable. This little town does an excellent job putting this together. This will be a fun evening and you won t want to miss out.
