1 From: Sent: Wednesday, February 10, :02 PM To: 'Weber, Tad - SLO' Cc: 'sduerr@thetribunenews.com'; 'bray@thetribunenews.com'; 'senator.maldonado@sen.ca.gov'; 'assemblymember.blakeslee@assembly.ca.gov' Mr. Weber, The San Luis Obispo Tribune should be concerned about San Luis Obispo County residents public Safety, It is unfortunate the Tribune looks at a Courts ruling over public safety as demonstrated in video s on my web-site and Caltrans response below to the Regional Water Quality Control Board from these video s! Mr. Wilson is aware of our State Highway having to be closed for flooding, 10 times this year as recently as February 9, 2010 and the dangers this brings to our San Luis Obispo County residents. When a bicycle rider falls in flooded waters; then our school children are put in danger with these flooded waters; it is then time to look past a Judges decision that is now in the Appellate Court. Again, the videos of Caltrans actions after trial are un-acceptable in regards to their shoveling of contaminated debris into the Oceano Communities storm water drainage system! The videos of the Oceano Community Service District dredging debris into this storm water drainage, system is unacceptable! Both, Senator Abel Maldonado and State Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee are aware of this and have written letters after my trial as seen on my web-site, to Caltrans and myself!
2 I would hope that the San Luis Obispo Tribune/McClatchy news, would reconsider their standing on a Judges decision that government is doing nothing wrong and review Caltrans, County of San Luis Obispo and Oceano Community Service documents on my web-site along with these videos of Caltrans actions before and after trial. The Regional Water Quality Control Board was able to do this and I believe the Tribune can also do this! Sincerely CC Senator Abel Maldonado CC Assemblyman, Sam Blakeslee From: Weber, Tad - SLO [mailto:tweber@thetribunenews.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 10, :42 PM To: ; Duerr, Sandra - SLO Cc: Ray, Bruce - SLO; Wilson, Nick - SLO Bill: I apologize for Nick s choice of words, but let me offer a bit more feedback that sums up how we see this story: As you know firsthand, there have been rulings against you in court. You certainly have the right to debate the validity or wisdom of those rulings, but we cannot. In addition to reporting on the court action, we have abundantly reported your point of view, and that of the agencies. So we believe there is not much new to report. You may see that differently, so reply back to me as you may need. But, bottom line, we cannot keep devoting our precious staff resources toward a story that has not advanced much. Should something of significance move the story into a new direction, we of course would be interested to know that and will cover it. Thanks, Tad
3 From: Sent: Wednesday, February 10, :36 PM To: Duerr, Sandra - SLO Cc: Ray, Bruce - SLO; Weber, Tad - SLO February 10, 2010 San Luis Obispo Tribune/McClatchy News Sandra Duerr ----Executive Editor of the San Luis Obispo Tribune Bruce G. Ray President and Publisher of the San Luis Obispo Tribune Dear Mrs. Duerr and Mr. Ray of the San Luis Obispo Tribune It saddens me to read this comment from Nick Wilson of the San Luis Obispo Tribune after making both of you aware today of my web-site and its contents in regards to government documents that has lead to this flooding we are seeing today in Oceano! I am sorry that the San Luis Obispo Tribune is not concerned with the causes of the flooding in Oceano as seen in Mr. Wilson s comments! I am sorry for the residents of San Luis Obispo County in how the San Luis Obispo Tribune would ignore Caltrans to the Regional Water Quality Control Board that affects San Luis Obispo County residents, public safety as seen in our State Highway 1 flooding yesterday! CC San Luis Obispo County Residents From: Wilson, Nick - SLO [mailto:nwilson@thetribunenews.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 10, :10 PM To: Duerr, Sandra - SLO; Cc: Ray, Bruce - SLO; Weber, Tad - SLO Okay, thanks you guys. Yes, just refer him to me. He has an annoying habit of directing any questions I ask him to Maldonado, Blakeslee, you guys, etc., regardless of our level of interest in doing a story and making it sounds like we re on his side. 4 Cc: Ray, Bruce - SLO; Weber, Tad - SLO; Wilson, Nick - SLO Thank you again for sharing the information. If you have any additional news to share, please let Nick Wilson know. He's following this matter for us. Sandy Sandra Duerr Executive Editor The Tribune P.O. Box S. Higuera St., SLO, CA sduerr@thetribunenews.com From: [mailto:pismobeachdiveshop@charter.net] Sent: Wednesday, February 10, :52 AM To: Duerr, Sandra - SLO Cc: Ray, Bruce - SLO; Weber, Tad - SLO; Wilson, Nick - SLO Subject: Dear San Luis Obispo Tribune, Sandra Duerr and Bruce G. Ray I would like to thank both of you today in taking time to talk with me for our California residents flooding problem in Oceano and the web-site that I have created for this problem to be known through out California, in order to see this dangerous situation, is once and for all fixed. I have made one change today to my web-site which leads our news media into asking questions of Caltrans through their documents, statements and video s of their actions before and after trial. This is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed in San Luis Obispo County. This story involves a lot of our local government officials as seen in their documents, in the PDF files at along with the letters written by Senator Abel Maldonado and State Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee after Judge Tangeman s August 5, 2008 decision which now affects our public safety in San Luis Obispo County. The November 26, 2008 video of Caltrans continuing to shovel storm water debris into this drainage system needs to be accounted for with our State Highway having to be closed again as recently as February 9, When a school bus full of school children or a bicycle rider constantly has to go through these flooded waters, then it is time those responsible for shoveling or dredging debris into this drainage system are held accountable! Caltrans, Pete Riegelhuth s to the Regional Water Quality Control Board has an impact on all of our California State Drainage issues! Thank you,
5 San Luis Obispo Tribune/McClatchy News and New Times: Is Caltrans actions normal in our governments use of our drainage systems today as seen in this video and quote from Caltrans below? Caltrans_November_2008 after trial SLO Tribune PDF "Due to past litigation, the Department is no longer responsible or allowed to maintain the channel located off of the Caltrans right of way. If you would like further information about the drainage situation and the maintenance effort at this location, which has a history beyond what can be detailed in an , please let me know so that I can arrange a meeting with Department staff familiar with the drainage challenges and restrictions at this site." Respectfully, Pete Riegelhuth D-5 NPDES Coordinator Office Cell Senator Maldonado and Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee have responded. Per their Letters attached.
