All Australian competitors must be registered with AOCRA 5. Rules compliance: A. A senior official appointed by AOCRA or the zone, and a member of the organising committee should make a pre race inspection of the course. AOCRA rules calls for a course and facilities inspector. B. If conditions are considered unsafe, as in rough seas, tidal convergence, strong wind or forecast strong winds or other conditions that may effect the safety of competitors, then an alternate course is to be made available. Or the event cancelled. C. In severe conditions as defined in AOCRA regatta rules the event must be postponed or cancelled. D. The lead boat in every event must have an official observer who will take responsibility for reporting conditions and make decisions on safety. If conditions deteriorate at any point of the course in any event, the observer must recommend a course of action. E. Consultation must take place by the race committee, and other interested parties, if a safety issue arises and paddlers may be jeopardised, with a view to altering the course or stopping the race. F. All OC6 canoes must have tow ropes on board and the canoe crews be trained to be able fix the tow rope in the approved manner to assist in rescue procedures. Tow ropes to be 12mm silver rope 20/25 metres in length G. The organising committee prior to race start must make inspections of canoes. Once a crew or person is requested to turn back or take advantage of rescue and refuses then all insurance for the crew or person will be invalidated. This will decrease the chance of weaker or inexperienced crews who have decided to, have a-go, getting themselves into trouble when commonsense would say turn back. Crews that refuse to turn back shall be advised that insurance will be voided at this point. K. Canoes need to be rigged to suit the conditions and the team using the canoe. The onus is on the crew to ensure this is in effect. Competitors should be made aware in the invitation that thermal clothing may be necessary in cold water conditions. L. 12 REGATTA RACE PROGRAM If individual clubs are unable to field complete teams, they may either contact other clubs directly or else contact the Event Co-ordinator by at OC6 Skins This course will start at the beach, turning at buoys 250 metres offshore. A 1 minute turnaround for canoes starts once the first OC6 crosses the start/finish line. The slowest canoe is eliminated, with the race running on until only 2 crews are remaining. Whitsunday Wipeout Relay* This event is to be made up of teams of 9 paddlers. The total age for the team, based on their age division, must add up to no more than 130 years (i.e. if a 13 year old paddler paddles in the 14U age division, then the 14 is used for the total age calculation). The first leg of this event is a 1km OC2 leg out around a marker at 500m before returning to the beach. Once on the beach, both paddlers must run up the beach (with a small challenge involved) to a transition point. From here, the next paddler will head down to the water for a 600m stand-up paddleboard paddle leg, out around a 300m marker before returning to the beach. This paddler also runs to the transition point before handing over to a crew of 6 paddlers who then head down to their OC6 for a 1km leg, out around a 500m marker before returning and making their way together across the transition point where the race will conclude. NB: All SUP paddlers (6 at a time) will be provided with, and wear a waist type lifejacket. Any individual paddler may only compete in a maximum of 2 of the 3 legs of the relay. * Although the ruling is that buoys must be at least 1km from the start (for a short course event)with the number of craft limited to 6 being on the water at any one time the risk of incident will be reduced.

13 OC6 changeover race Teams will be made up so that all teams will have an equal number of 12U, 14, 16 and 19 paddlers. A team coach will be appointed from coaches, parents or supporters to assist the teams with planning of changeovers and team selection. Teams will leave the start line in pairs staggered every 30 seconds so as to avoid congestion at turns and changeover points on the 1km course. Canoes will complete 8 laps of the 1km course, having completed 7 changeovers. Changes must be completed between the transition points either changing from the beach or in deeper water, depending on paddlers abilities. OC2 mixed marathon relay Each team entry will consist of 2 male and 2 female competitors. Pairings can race either same sex or mixed combinations. Each pairing will complete a 1 lap course, before one of the pairing members will run up the beach through a gate before returning to the canoe, tagging the next pairing member. Each pairing will alternate, completing 2 laps each of the 4 lap course. The 16/19U combined division lap distance is 4km to make a 16km course. The 12/14U combined division lap distance is 800m to make a 2.4km course. NOTE: Course distance may be varied according to weather conditions, and start times may change, please ensure you check with race officials on the day and attend all race briefings.
