2 CONSTRUCTION RULES The ENTIRE boat must be built of cadboad, duct tape, and one-pat polyuethane. Only exceptions ae the paddles & decoations Use Cadboad boxes, blocks, capet tubes NO pe-teated cadboad allowed No Sona-Tubes, waxed o teated cadboad NO wood, plastic o fibeglass NO caulking compounds o two-pat/mixed adhesives NO wapping in duct tape, plastic o fibeglass Duct tape may be used to einfoce seams

3 CONSTRUCTION RULES Watepoof the boat with Vanish, Paint o Polyuethane (one-pat, paint-like substance) Decoations ae encouaged -as long as they don t effect stuctual stength o buoyancy The cew compatment CANNOT be enclosed so as to intefee with escape Evey cewmembe must wea a pesonal floatation devise (PDF) and pope footwea

10 CARDBOARD BOAT DESIGN SUGGESTIONS Set the Design Goal: Fun, Speed and Appeaance Sketch out you design m build a scale model fom manila pape: - estimate mateials o plan how to use what you have - plan out what constuction techniques will be used 1 x1 x3 box: will float 187 lbs. m if it ll hold you, it s big enough to float Flat bottom, sit-to-paddle & canoe styles -ae the best/easiest Ruddes help keep you staight but make tuning difficult and adds complexity to you design.

12 CONSTRUCTION TIPS & TECHNIQUES I Cove all edges of cadboad -acts like siphon Cadboad Tubes make geat fames m Cut fo joining & bending m Fasten tubes togethe Cadboad Hull m 1-2 layes, fasten & cove the seams m With 2 layes, ovelap the seams & polyuethane in between m Decoate, paint & vanish Reinfoce the aea whee you sit, kneel o stand

13 CONSTRUCTION TIPS & TECHNIQUES II Capente s glue and liquid nails wok well hot-melt glues will melt in the heat and sun Duct tape only non-painted sufaces (tubes o fame that will be coveed) m Duct tape shinks when painted m Duct tape should be coveed with masking tape if you need to paint it m Clea tape melts when painted m Masking tape woks well on glued edges & seams m Kaft pape with spay adhesive may also be used
