1 Montpelier, Edinburgh, EH10 4NA, March 2016 Newsletter I am very pleased to say the playground improvement work is progressing very well and should be completed by the Easter Holiday. Training for staff and children is organised and we shall set an opening day in due course to celebrate the huge amount of work involved in making this happen. I include information on the National Framework and I am pleased we are on track with all their targets and it will be a pleasure to continue to build on our achievements. I have also added the link to our website for future updates. Well done indeed to our P4 to P7 athletes who won the area Sports Hall Athletics competition at Meadowbank on Thursday 25 February. I wish them every success in the finals. Our Badminton Team came second at the Gibb Memorial Quaich (Primary) on Saturday. Well done everyone, especially to the new players who attended this competition for the first time. Places are still available in the Badminton Club, so if you are interested in joining, please do. Good luck also to the Cross Country runners who are competing in the Nationals competition in Kirkcaldy next month. Our P7s reached the final of the Mock Court on Monday 29 and did very well indeed. Well done to St Mary s Primary School who were the overall winners. World Autism Awareness Week is held every year in April. This year it is from Saturday 2nd April till Friday 8th April. As this is in the middle of the school holidays, the week of 14th to 18th March is being promoted throughout the UK as Autism Awareness Week. We shall talk to classes about Autism during the week. There are a number of events planned throughout the city during the April week, including an evening with the Edinburgh author of Truestory, Catherine Simpson at the Central Library on Wednesday 30th March. 2 World Book Day This Thursday (3 March) Bruntsfield Primary School participated in World Book Day. We enjoyed seeing all of the pupils and staff dress up as their favourite literary characters. Keep an eye on our website for photos and stories about World Book Day success! Sickness and Absence A reminder to all parents, if your child has had the winter vomiting bug (sickness or diarrhoea) he or she should remain out of school for a minimum of 48 hours since the last instance of sickness. Please help us ensure the wellbeing of our staff and pupils by stopping the spread of sickness! A Huge Thanks to everyone who contributed to February RAG BAG! Our donation was 93 kilos and funds raised ( 37) have gone to Bruntsfield Community Nursery to support their playground improvements!

3 Our P1 Nativity this year raised 300 for Edinburgh Sick Kids. A huge thanks to Clare Donoghue who convinced Lloyds Bank to price match the donation, meaning a total of 600 raised for Sick Kids! Dear Parent and Carer Please join us on Friday 4 March or Friday 11 March for a Fairtrade breakfast. Tea or coffee, toast and a selection of jams will be for sale. In Bruntsfield School dining hall. From 11am to 11.45am. There will be a variety of Community Team enterprise articles the children have made on sale. 4 Trapped in the Tomb Storm and Hope were best friends. They were really into Ancient Egypt. They were walking through the stinky tomb carefully and slowly but nevertheless out of nowhere a trap from under Storm s feet appeared and she fell down an endless corridor of darkness With a thud Storm tumbled in a heap. She seemed to be in a deep sleep. After a while she awoke to the stench of old moisture in the air which was so strong. She could hear a loud squeak and loud scutters and creaks in the wood. As she sat up she felt the stone walls. They were wet, slimy, smooth and frozen. A cold shiver went down her spine. Stone fell from the ceiling. In the darkness you never knew what creatures lie Suddenly the torch turned on. A big group of bats flew into Storm s face. She screamed!. She heard a scutter. Suddenly she turned on the torch and saw a scissor-like, sharp, tail.what else would be in the dark? Would she survive? In all of the thinking she forgot to think up a plan but wahat she didn t know was that Hope went for the help of Spirit (Storm s twin sister) who was an expert in helping escape and first aid. Meanwhile in the tomb Storm hadn t noticed that she had broken her ankle. All of a sudden she felt a sting. She looked round and saw a small scorpion and quite forgot how to deal with a scorpion. She started to feel hot and dizzy. Then she heard a shout Storm! As soon as Storm was said a storm grew from the swift breeze. Hope thre Spirit s rope and Spirit slipped herself down into the tomb and saw her sister s inflamed face. Spirit tied her rope around Storm s waist and climbed up on the rope. Hope pulled up the rope but suddenly..(to be continued ) By Mango P5B

6 Sports Hall Competition Bruntsfield Primary were in the East Regional Sportshall Athletics Competition on the 25 th Feb The competitions run by the Scottish Athletics Association and Eveque who make the equipment that is used. We had managed to get ourselves into the East Regional Final by coming second to Bonaly in the Edinburgh Finals Competition where we had 176 points and Bonaly had 178 points. On the day of the Regionals I expected us to do very well; a result in the top five places would be considered a huge success. We were up against Bonaly, Dunbar, Kings Meadow, Mauricewood, Hawthornden, Priorsford and Mid Calder. When the places were announced I was pacing the floor. When it was announced we had won, we all went crazy (along with me having a few tears)! We won with a margin of 12 points and are now going to the Nationals which will be held in Glasgow. The children were fantastic and really put their hearts into the day. It was a deserved win and I am very proud of all of them. Now it is back to training in the mornings until the Nationals are over! -Mrs Ramsay Congratulations to our Sports Hall team and Good Luck at Nationals!!!! Congratulations to our Cross Country participants This Monday pupils from the school participated in the Meadows Cross Country meet. All participants did very well. Three boys in P7 placed in the top 50 : Philip 19 th, Alfie 21 st and Euan 35 th. In the P7 girls Addie came in 4 th, Molly 6 th, Esme 33 rd, Riona 40 th, Iris 42 nd and Nisha 44 th. In the P6 boys we had Robbie who came in 1 st ( well done), Micky 11 th, Ben K 18 th, Corin 51 st, and Cameron 52 nd For the P6 girls we had Phoebe 4 th, Lola 9 th, Isla 13 th, and Olivia 14 th. Some fantastic results! We will be competing in the Edinburgh Cross Country meet and the Scottish Cross Country Championships in Kirkcaldy later on next month. A Huge Well Done to P7B for their participation on 01 March in the Scottish Schools Mock Court Finals. Over 900 were expected to attend, including numerous choirs, soloists and other performers Good Work 7B!!
