2 WELL, another month has gone by and what can I write about? We have asked for more participation from members, discussed upcoming events, and the jobs in work in the last reports, so now a little of the same here, and one new item. KEN WINTER, CHAIR THE OLYMPIC PENINSULA BLUEBILLS In the upcoming months we will be needing volunteersfor the two golf tournaments coming up, The CEA Silent Auction and Dove House gardening and other programs. LETS HELP In the next few months we will be looking for Candidates for: CHAIRMAN, 1st VICE CHAIR and 2nd VICE CHAIR for the OLYMPIC PENINSULA BLUEBILLS Only the Chairman's job reqires that they were a former Boeing employee, as they will have to attend a meeting at Boeing Seattle once a month. These jobs will open your eyes as what goes on to run our chapter. JULY CHAIRMANS REPORT

3 The Bluebills have volunteered to take August 5-12 to help with the YMCA Summer Feeding Program at the Chimacum Creek Primary School. If you have the time and interest to assemble food, participate in physical activities with kids, or work one on one with children in the literacy program, contact Barbara Adams at It is a 10 week program and if you are not available during the Bluebill week, alternate dates work as well. 4 This month we had a request from the physical therapist at Chimacum School to make some wooden foot holders for trike pedals. The special needs children she works with have a difficult time keeping their feet on the pedals. Trike riding is a great help in developing leg coordination and strength. She requested two sets of foot holders, one a bit larger than the other. The picture shows the finished project. Another example of things we can do to help that we didn t know were needed. The foot holders clamp onto the pedals and the Velcro keeps the child s foot in the holder. The heel holders we cut from a coffee container. F R O M M Y R O N V O G T

6 SHARON COMMANDER A big thank you to the Jefferson County Master Gardeners for donating a number of plants to the Dove House Landscape Project. With the generous donation of plants from Far Reaches Farm in Port Townsend, we are almost ready to begin planting. Sharon Commander is keeping an inventory of the plants and has been instrumental in collecting the donations. The watering system will be ready to go by July 19 so watch out for s asking for volunteers to help plant shortly after that

7 The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Bluebills cover Kitsap, Clallam and Jefferson Counties. Our goal has always been to have local members take care of the needs in their county. Response time is faster and time/travelcosts reduced. In 2012 Larry Elton organized a recruiting drive to get more Clallam County members and more builders in particular. As a result we now have a robust team who handle the project from beginning to end. Some of those who have worked on projects this year are: D O U G R I TT E N H O U S E DA L E B LA N K E N S H I P R O B E RT B R OW N R O D H A R P M I K E Z U S PA N K E N O RT H B R I A N G I L E S J I M K E L LY CLALLAM COUNTY BUILDERS For years Ken Mellott and Gifford Asher were the mainstays in coordinating and completing projects in Clallam County. Unfortunately health problems and age forces them to limit their activities. Many thanks for all they have done. Thus far in 2013 the Clallam Builders have completed fifteen projects, including six ramps. The pictures with this article show the latest one. ROD HARP CLALLAM CO. BUILDERS REP. Doug Rittenhouse and Mike Zuspan. Dale Blankenship also worked on this job. The ramp runs from the house into the garage where there is room for a landing and easy access to the car.

8 W H Y O U R H E L P I S I M P O R T A N T This month we built a very simple ramp for a home in Suquamish. The woman s daughter coordinated the job. When we were done she was so happy. Her mother was in a rest home and could not come home to visit as there was no way for her to get in the house. Just think about that. Jobs like these are absolutely critical to the well-being of our clients. Something to reflect on when we think it s just too inconvenient or can t find time to help with a project. Who is going to help you if you get in this position? Myron The finished ramp. Took two of us about 3 hours. Jerry Enders trims some roofing for the ramp. Jerry coordinated the job.
