1 MCCMGA BOARD MEETING JANUARY 7, 2014 Those present : Jack Stewart, Jerry Eaves Mike Kirkpatrick, Terry Underwood, Mike McEvoy, Al Taylor, Phil Dudek, Frank Davis, Ray Miraglia, Dick Myer, john Dearey, Paul Herring. 1)The meeting was called to order by President Jack Stewart at 9:05 A.M. 2) MCC Golf report New GM Bradford Bean reported that he is working with the snack bar for a quick service menu, a hot dog roller so there won t be any more 5 minute waits for a hot dog. He is working with Dustin to have food every night except Saturday. They are currently working on a Valentine s Day offering. He is open to suggestions regarding food and beverage. MCC is waiting on Riverside County on a permit for the newly revamped pool. They need to comply with ADA requirements. There are plans for WiFi in the main building common areas.he is working on the phone system. The menu needs to be updated to current employee s names. There a number of communications issues that are being worked out. He is working on a budget for a new shoe cleaning system, preferably an air gun. Terry asked about a BCS party. The ball was dropped this year, but we will definitely have one next season. The Super Bowl party is in the works. John thanked Brad for the donations to the raffle prizes. Chris Hoyer reported that things are business as usual. He is working on landscaping around the pool area and the snack bar area. He is working on covers for the control boxes. H is budgeting for a new mower. He used to be able to buy about 4 used mowers for the price of a new one, however, most used equipment is being bought up by the Chinese.Chris is putting together a detailed plan for the bunkers and paths. The tree trimming is not done but he will keep chipping away for the next 4 months. Dick Myer asked about the areas around the bunkers and greens. Once the Bermuda grass comes back, they will grow out. If the members like that look, it can be continued. Jack asked about the $2.5 million budget project. Brad stated that it is actually $2.1 million, it is basically for irrigation, and will probably be segmented out to one 9 at a time. John asked about the fountain in the 1 west lake. a new pump will cost around $6500,and is being budgeted for. It is an important focal point and needs to be replaced soon. Scott Burr was welcomed back. He was told of the good job done by Ben and Jeff during his absence. Phil said that he had heard nothing but good comments from the participants in the previous days team play held at MCC. Jack referred back to the previous meetings discussion regarding prizes awarded in Men s Club events. Is there a way to use those prizes other than in the pro shop? Scott stated that he can special order anything a person wants. Prize credits can be used for anything other than tournament entries. Brad stated that he is discussing the use of prize debit

2 cards being used throughout the whole club. Jack asked about the Coachella Valley hiking trail being proposed. Brad is aware of the proposal. Jerry commented that it will not impact MCC. Jack thinks it will be years before any action is taken and by then they will probably see the danger of running it through a golf course. 3) Committee Reports A) Rules- Al Taylor presented a pace of play policy statement. After much discussion it was moved by Jerry, seconded by Paul that we adopt a 4 hour and 15 minute pace of play policy. Passed. Prior to all events the pro shop will announce the policy. The rules sheets for all play will also state the policy. The course marshals will be advised of the policy and will be instructed to enforce it. Al reminded everyone that the former flower beds near the green are now part of the field of play There is no free relief from that spot. The rules books have been handed out to all committee members and board members. Jack stated that he is still noticing a lot of rules being ignored. Al asked for additional marshals for Saturdays Guest Day. Jack and Ralph Jarrendt volunteered. Al is still hoping for a cork board for the locker room. The playing of a provisional ball was discussed, especially when a ball goes into the water. If a local rule is adopted by one of the local skins games groups, the scores from that group are not really postable. B) Handicap- Mike McEvoy handed out a roster of all current and former members and their designations by member type. R= Regular,A=Associate, P= ProShop,J= Junior, D= Delete/Inactive. We currently have 195 regular members. (As of 1/2/14). Mike also handed out an audit of 23 days of December postings. Mike officially announced his retirement as Handicap Chairman. Dean Wartelle will be taking his place. The board thanked Mike for his years of service. Out of 853 scores posted, 469 were posted by the pro shop, 384 were posted by individuals. Of the 384, 197 were accompanied with scorecards. 187 did not have supportive scorecards. 69 people were on the tee sheets and did not post and did not hand in a scorecard. 14 players were on the tee sheet, did not post, but turned in a scorecard. Overall there were 256 missing scorecards. Mike presented a Men s Club Policy Proposal : The Men s Club Board of Directors institutes a club policy, requesting that all scores posted be accompanied by properly filled out and attested scorecards. If a member does not comply with this request, the member may not be eligible to play in Men s Club sponsored events. After much discussion Jerry moved, Paul seconded that we adopt this policy. Passed. Mike also brought to the boards attention the issue of posting in a timely manner. It was decided that the handicap committee can request that scores be posted within 72 hours of completion of a round.jack asked Mike to check with Dean to see if a group adopts a local rule that is outside the rules of golf, are those scores postable? Mike will do so. C) Food and Beverage and Entertainment- Ray Miraglia reported that he has had a very positive association with Dustin. The menu has been set for the January Guest Day and the January Member/Member. There was discussion about quantity and quality of food at recent functions. There were a few problems with the New Year s Eve party. Ray was not involved with that function. Ray is looking into different options for the desert Classic, Presidents Cup and The Finale. He is looking at Live music versus a DJ.

3 Advisory Committee Terry Underwood. Terry had to leave early so was asked to report as the Advisory Committee Chairman. He only had one issue and it had been turned over to Phil. D) Horse Race- Rob Harum was not present. Jerry reported that we will be assisting with the Ladies Member/Member Horserace. They have 3 flights of 11 each. They will be staring on 3,5,& 7 East.The pari mutual table is being handled by Sue. E) SCGA Dick Myer reported that he has not met with Jeremy Pitt due to the holidays. He will have more to report next month. F) Guest Days- Jerry reports that the December Guest Day came out about $82 to the good. He thinks we will end the year with about an even budget There are 119 signed up so far for the Saturday, Jan.11 Guest Day. G) Membership Lyn Stowell was absent. Jerry reported that we have one new member. His name is Brian Fox? That takes us back to 197 members. H) Web Site- Frank Davis suggested that the Men s Club put something in writing regarding the great job that Ben did during Scott s absence. He also would like to see more reports from the committee chairs, so he can put them on the web site. Jerry suggested that we post the handicap committee audit to the web site. Frank has heard from some members that they are unable to open some of the documents sent out as an blast. One solution would be to direct everyone to the web site. I) Advisory Committee Terry Underwood reported earlier in the meeting. J) Green Committee- Phil Dudek reported on the activities of the green committee for the past month. They are still noticing a lot of need for ball mark repairs and divot filling. He thinks the use of the gates is improving. Observations of many of the members during the month showed an outstanding job by John Dempster maintaining the golf course while playing. John will be presented a nice bottle of wine for his efforts. Jack will be asked to talk with the advisory committee regarding the use of golf course property by non- golfers. We also need to discuss this situation with the new GM, Brad. John suggested that we keep the pressure on management about the fountain on 1 West. K) Nominating Committee- Jack Stewart reported that the nominating committee made a resolution for changing the election for 2015 to 2 one year terms, and 2 three year terms, to return to rotation for board member elections. Jerry moved and john seconded that we change the bylaws to reflect the proposed new rotation. Passed. Jerry also suggested that we review the by-laws to see if there are any other changes that should be made. It was stated that we need to define a member in good standing. One other item that needs attention is finding candidates for the upcoming election. L) Communications- Paul Herring had nothing new to report. 4

4 ) Updated and New Business A) Secretary-Jerry moved, John seconded that the report by Paul be accepted as published. Passed B) Treasurers report- Mike Kirkpatrick presented the treasurers report for the month of December. Jack reported that the budget has been adjusted to reflect a larger subsidy to the remaining events.jerry moved, john seconded that we accept. Passed. Jerry moved and John seconded that Paul be authorized to purchase a new battery for the computer. Passed. C) Tournament Chair- Jerry Eaves. a) Mens Playday chairman john Dearey reports that play is increasing the first raffle went well. Thanks to the pro shop for their contributions to the raffle. The 2 man team play resumes Thursday 1/11/14 It s an 8:30 shotgun. They are up to 14 or 15 teams. Al suggested that in conjunction with the Ladies Club that we support Ben Jeff, & Larry by setting up a fund,funded by a tournament. This could be a scholarship type fund to support their professional progression. B )Current month Tournament report/action 1) Jan. guest Day 2) Jan.Member/Member & Horse Race. Phil suggested that we establish a prize for the first person to shoot their age in the next Member/Member. Paul moved, Jerry seconded that we appropriate $200 to fund this payout. $100 each day. If two people shoot their age, they split the $100. c) Two month look ahead 1) Feb. Guest Day- Will be 2/13/14 2) Presidents Cup will be 2/21,2/22,2/23/14 5) Specific Issues Before the Board. Phil states that the only way we will get a jacket for the Presidents Cup will be to have a custom tailored jacket made. The cost will be about $500. John suggested a different color. Jack suggested we look for a green as close to what we have had in the past. Phil will continue to pursue. A) Player of the Year- Phil reported that some minor changes made to the budget. The points don t change. B) Scoring- Jack feels that we have a serious problem out there regarding players reporting the wrong numbers. We need to address this issue. We need to monitor this. This really affects the handicaps. A blast should be sent out reminding all players to pay closer attention to all players scoring. If someone in your foursome reports a wrong count, it should be corrected at the time. Some players refuse to take a seven, even if they actually did shoot that number. Jack will send out a blast.
