From all of us to all of you, In America, our holidays and traditions seem mostly born from the places and cultures of our ancestry. Thanksgiving by contrast, is a truly American tradition. Not officially recognized as a holiday until Lincoln proclaimed it so in 1863, the Harvest Festival at Plymouth Settlement of 1621 is generally regarded as the first Thanksgiving. Lasting 3 days, and featuring waterfowl and turkey, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkins and squash, the table was laid for the traditional dinners prepared across America today. When you turn it off, the water drains out, so it is not exposed to the freezing temperatures. Nitrogen helps to promote root growth and will help with an early green-up in the spring. With the high winds ahead, leaves will be falling at a pretty good clip. 2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE - Barbara Cherry Thanks to everyone who attended our October meeting. We are making plans for November and December, which includes on November 2nd the EHS luncheon that is put on by the culinary class which is something you should try to attend sometime. Then on November 18th, we have our Thanksgiving Dinner, catered by Marvel's. There is a trip planned to go to Longwood Gardens on December 6th. The cost is $58.00 for the bus and entrance fee. On December 2nd we will decorate the Clubhouse for Christmas. Try to be there at 9:00 am to help decorate and you will be treated to coffee and donuts. We will have our Christmas party on December 10th and Shelly Abbott will entertain us. The club will provide meat, drinks and rolls and residents will bring their favorite dish, which is always good because we have such great cooks here in the Park. Our yard sale was a great success, earning us $ Thanks to all who donated items and to those who baked such great goodies, and those who rented tables. We are so lucky to have such wonderful help from hauling items, then setting up, sales people, the cooks, and then cleaning up, and I hope all enjoyed it as much as I did. "Thanks so much to all of you." Check the "coming events" -- on November 1st some of our talented crafters are getting together. You can either bring your crafts to work on or come and they will teach you the craft you are most interesting in learning to do. Just come and watch -- you might decide there is something you might be interested in trying. Our Knight's Dinner was a success and the food was great, catered by Hot Off the Coals. "Congratulations" to Alva Jacobs who the Knights have chosen for doing outstanding volunteer service for the Hyde Park community. Our Knights do a wonderful job of helping out whenever needed and we, the residents, are so lucky. There is a big concern for most of us who take care of the Clubhouse -- someone is taking drinks and food from our refrigerators and our kitchen is also missing other items. If you are in need of something the Clubhouse has, please notify a board member and we will be glad to help you out. At our next meeting we will start planning for the new year, so come with your suggestions.

MARY & MICHAEL HOLTHAUS 105 PARK LANE Mary and Michael had lived in Grasonville for 18 years before moving here, and prior to Grasonville, they lived across the bridge.

6 MARY & MICHAEL HOLTHAUS 105 PARK LANE Mary and Michael had lived in Grasonville for 18 years before moving here, and prior to Grasonville, they lived across the bridge. They had made a few trips to Easton to out to different restaurants and they liked the fact that Hyde Park was for a 55 plus community. They also needed to downsize to a smaller house and yard. Mary is now retired after being employed with an insurance company for 17 years and Michael is still employed and is the manager of the Safeway store in Delaware. They both like to read, but Mary likes the slots too. Michael enjoys the orioles baseball games and has attended some of the games. His other interest is gardening when he has time. They have been married for 34 years and have one daughter and one son and four grandchildren. Mary and Michael have a cat named Lucy, who is 7 years old, but she is very shy and hides when someone comes to visit, so I didn't get to see her. Hopefully we can get them to bingo and other activities. interviewed by Barbara Cherry
