1 Event Highlights performance venue Jan 2010 Issue HITEC Gives Full Support to the 2009 East Asian Games and Promotes Sports Development in HK The 5th East Asian Games (EAG) was successfully held in Hong Kong from 5 Dec to 13 Dec HITEC was one of the 21 competition venues, and was responsible for hosting Bowling, cue Sports and DanceSport competitions, with a total of 32 gold medals awarded in these 3 competitions. 5 medals were awarded to Hong Kong team. Hopewell Holdings Limited (HHL), the parent company of HITEC, has been committed to Hong Kong sports development for many years. To help promote EAG, HHL not only became one of the venue sponsors of the 2009 EAG, but also sponsored the Promotion of Hong Kong Athletes Readiness in Participating in the 5th East Asian Games organized by the Sports Federation & 1

2 Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. The event was held at HITEC in early July 2009, which helped the public to learn more about EAG and showed the support for our local athletes. Ms. Josephine Lam, Deputy General Manager of HITEC, said 2009 EAG was one of the largest events to be held in Hong Kong in recent years and HITEC is proud to participate as one of the competition venues. It not only enhanced our experience in hosting such worldwide sports events, but also helped promote sports development in Hong Kong. 2

3 Movie Premieres Pan Zuo Liang and Treasure Hunter Star Hall, the integrated performance venue of HITEC, hosted 2 movie premieres in the past 3 months. These included Pan Zuo Liang (Oct 20, 2009) and Treasure Hunter (Dec 23, 2009) which attracted over 4,000 audiences and supported by main casts, directors and pop stars from Mainland China and Hong Kong. The movie premiere of Pan Zuo Liang was a fund raising event for Hong Kong Association of Youth Development, and the movie itself was one of the most important films for celebrating the 60 th Anniversary of the Founding of the People s Republic of China. 3

4 2 nd Hong Kong Wedding Showcase 2009 (Oct 10-11, 2009) 2 nd Hong Kong Wedding Showcase 2009 was successfully held at mid Oct 2009 with over 200 booths. Exhibitors included hotels and restaurants providing banquet services, pre-wedding photo shooting companies from Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, wedding services providers and bridal gowns rental etc. Pop stars and DJ were invited to sing and play games with pre-wedding couples, while the lucky draw has given pre-wedding couples special offers provided by various wedding consultancy companies. Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh (Oct 16-18, 2009) Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh was staged at Star Hall of HITEC for 3 days from Oct 16-18, The drama was about the friends of Winnie the Pooh, including Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit and Owl etc planned for a surprise birthday party for Pooh, who forgot his own birthday. The edutainment musical was full of interactive elements, with the children doing morning exercises under Pooh s guide and Tigger taught them how to sing and dance with fun. Attitude Is Altitude Seminar by Nick Vujicic (Nov 4, 2009) Nick Vujicic, a 26-year-old Australian who was born without arms and legs, but able to share his life passion and genuine love with millions of people over the world. He was invited by PMA Music Foundation to come to Hong Kong and delivered the Attitude Is Altitude Seminar. HITEC was happy to be the venue sponsor for the event which was successfully held at Star Hall on Nov 4, Nick shared his astonishing stories during the seminar and encouraged teenagers to pursue their goal 4

5 in life in an optimistic approach. The seminar was well received by the public and the audiences were impressed by Nick s stories. Sam Kit Popera (Nov 12-18, 2009) Sam Kit Popera ( 森美小儀歌劇團 加樽抽 ) was successfully held at Star Hall of HITEC with 7 consecutive shows from Nov 12-18, It was the 9 th anniversary show of Sam Kit Popera and breakthrough has been made by two main casts Sammy Leung and Kitty Yuen, who acted as a child, elderly person or even cross-casting! Their performances together with other stars and DJs made the drama fill with laughers, fun, love and affection than ever. Full of Hot Events in HITEC Numbers of public shows, concerts and expos were held at HITEC from Oct to Dec 2009, which were all received favorable response and recorded excellent participation. These included Neway Music Live x Kary, WMC I-1 World Muaythai Grand Slam, All Breed Championship Dog Show, Visual Music 09, G.E.M 18 Live 2009 Concert, RubberBand Concert #1, MIKA The Boy Who Knew Too Much, GUITAR HERO Joey Tang Live 2009, Kid Carnival ( 保兒健康大競賽 ), Toy Show ( 玩具精品 Fun Fun Show), Cream X Mas Eve etc. 5

6 Event Highlights EMax HITEC Newsletter EMax Gundam Fair To celebrate the 30 th Anniversary of Gundam, EMax Gundam Fair, with the theme of GUNDAM-00 Series, was held between 30 th September 2009 and 8 th October As the kick-off function of the Fair, an opening ceremony was held on 1 st October with celebrities like Marie Zhuge and Pakho Chau as guests. Experienced dubbing actors of Gundam Series in Cantonese version, Yu-Tong Cheung and Kai-Cheong Wong, were also invited to demonstrate dubbing techniques for the animation. Fans of Gundam enjoyed classic extracts of the animation, while they even had chances to experience dubbing on their beloved cartoon. The function was a fantastic adventure to all Gundam lovers as they had flung into the world of magnificent robots at EMax. 6

7 EMax Halloween Paradise During the end of October, a series of promotion functions were held at EMax to bring our visitors and their families an exciting, amusing Halloween. On 26 th October 2009, EMax Hong Kong Beauty Witch X Kid Witch Contest was held to bring funs to all of our visitors. The contest gathered numerous beauties and kids in witch dress-up, with Yoyo Chen and Samantha Ko as special guests. On the Halloween day, a number of lovely kids in Halloween costumes participated in the EMax Halloween Fashion Show X Pumpkin Baby Strollers Contest. With Miki Yeung, Claire Yiu and starlet Coleman Tam as judges, cute babies, along with their Pumpkin-style strollers, brought a lot of joyful moments to EMax and its visitors, and had stirred up the gala atmosphere of the city. 7

8 Cheering Team Competition for Kindergartens in Hong Kong 2009 The Cheering Team Competition for Kindergartens in Hong Kong 2009 had been successfully held by EMax. During the summer holiday, a series of cheering workshops and warm-up competitions were organized. Subsequently, the first round of competition was held on 24 th and 25 th October 2009 while the final competition was held on 15 th November 2009, attracting 41 kindergartens to join. After several rounds of heated battles, winner teams were selected. The Hong Kong Preschool (Kowloon Tong) was granted with the Champion Award, the Best Choreographer Award and the Best Cheering Award while the Christian Alliance Louey Choy Kwan Lok Kindergarten won the second place and received the Award for the Most Creative Props. Besides, TWGHs Ko Teck Kin Memorial Kindergarten won the 8

9 second runner- up and the Best Slogans Award while the Award for Best Costume and Accessories went to the Deborah International Preschool. The Competition had received tremendous support from the sectors of education, sport and entertainment. For instance, the supporting parties include Mr Louis Cheung (Event Ambassador), (Group Singer and Director of Choreography), the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, the Hong Kong Kindergarten Association, the Primary School Committee of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation and the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China. The cheering from the children had created a scene of excitement in those days. This competition aimed at enhancing the team spirits and persistence of school kids and echoing the blazing atmosphere of the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong. 9
