3 Programme of events Lisvane Festival Welcome to this year s Lisvane Festival! Once again we want to celebrate the amazing community spirit that exists in Lisvane, and create opportunities to get together with friends and family to have a jolly good time. Please take time to read the programme. I am sure you will find something of interest. Follow our Facebook page ( LisvaneVillage) or our Twitter page (@lisvanevillage) for information and to request tickets. Should we have to alter any of the events (due to poor weather, for example) we ll let you know on Facebook and Twitter. We thank Philip Husband who has continued his sponsorship of the Fun Run, Savills for their sponsorship of the Festival Fete activities, and Sunrise Living for their sponsorship of the Musical Afternoon Tea, and all those who generously donate raffle prizes. I would also like to thank all those helpers too numerous to mention who give of their time and energy to ensure that all runs smoothly. 4 4 Lisvane Festival 2015 Programme of events Sir Julian Hodge Festival Cup Art Competition AGE GROUP TITLE Pre-school Reception Years 1 & 2 (Ages 5 7) Years 3 & 4 (Ages 8 9) Years 5 & 6 (Ages 10 11) Adult Rules Work can be produced in any medium, it should be two dimensional and, ideally, should be mounted and framed suitable for wall hanging. All entries should be labelled on the back with the artist s name, age group, address and phone number and the title of the work. Entries will be collected from Treetops or Llysfaen Primary School on Friday 5 June. Other entries to be handed in to the Cabin Library on: Wednesday 3 June between 2pm and 5pm, Friday 5 June between 4pm and 6pm or Saturday 6 June between 10am and 1pm. Exhibits will be on display in the Memorial Hall on Saturday 13 June from 12 noon until 4pm. Entries can be collected from the Memorial Hall after the close of the exhibition at 4pm. 5 Programme of events Lisvane Festival Sunday 7 June FUN RUN AND BBQ HUSBAND BROTHERS CUP sponsored by Philip Husband Two-mile fun run/walk Start and finish at the Tennis Club. Route suitable for all ages, buggies, pushchairs, etc. Start at 12 noon. Register from 11.30am onwards. Entrance fee: Adults 1.50, Children 1. Categories for Men, Ladies, Junior Men, Junior Ladies, Family (running as a group), three-legged race, Veterans (over 60). Prize for best fancy dress. Followed by a delicious BBQ prepared by the members of Lisvane Tennis Club

6 6 Lisvane Festival 2015 Programme of events Monday 8 June GOLF DAY Llanishen Golf Club, 12 noon This will be a stapleford competition over 18 holes. Entrants will play off their full handicap allowance. The event will be followed by a dinner in the evening. Applications will be dealt with on a first-come first-served basis. So get a team together and gather in the Griffin, Church Road, at 7.30pm for curry and 8.15pm for the quiz. Numbers are limited, so contact Julie George on for tickets as soon as possible. This was a sell-out last year, so get your tickets early! Wednesday 17 June TEDDY BEARS PICNIC Playing Field, 1 3pm Joint event with Treetops Playgroup and Busy Bees. Fun for all pre-school children and their parents/carers. Admission is 1 per person and all you have to do is bring a Teddy Bear friend, a cup and someone to look after you. Come and have fun! Lisvane Festival Walk 2015 Yard of Old School, 7pm The Graig Protection Society The intention is to use the footpaths that are close to the village, some of which are threatened by proposed housing developments. So it will be an opportunity to see them before any work starts. It will be a complete circular route of about 4½ miles taking just over two hours with numerous opportunities along the way to break off and return to the village if necessary. In two places it is necessary to cross a stream, which means it could be wet and muddy, so appropriate footwear is advised. There are no significant hills to climb but there will be stiles. The walk ends by the Griffin with a chance, for those in need, to quench their thirsts! Friday 19 June the Llysfaen Singers present Midsummer Melodies Lisvane Memorial Hall, 7.30pm (doors open 7pm) Guest soloists: Justine Swainson (flute) Sarah Griffiths (soprano) Tickets: 5 ( 3 for under 16s). 12 12 Lisvane Festival 2015 Programme of events Saturday 20 June Festival Family disco Lisvane Memorial Hall, 5 8pm Tickets: 5 (includes a hotdog and drink). Join us for fun, games, face painting and lots of dancing! Everyone welcome (parents will be required to stay with their children!). Money raised will go to Treetops LCA Playgroup. Tickets will be sold at The Lisvane Store, Treetops, Llysfaen School and Busy Bees. RAINBOW LEAGUE MINI-CRICKET TOURNAMENT Lisvane Cricket Club, St Mellons. 10am start please try to arrive by 9.45am. For under 9s (up to and including Year 4s). This is open to current and prospective cricketers. The ground is at the back of Paramount Business Park, Pascal Close, St Mellons CF3 0LW (turn left at the Heronmarsh pub on Cypress Drive). Drive up to the security barrier and tell the staff that you are involved in the cricket tournament, then follow signs to the car park. No equipment needed, soft ball cricket only. Just turn up with loads of energy! New cricketers most welcome. Bring your own food, drinks, picnic blankets, chairs, etc,

Approximate timings pm: The James Clode Band up to nine members, playing rock with a folk influence pm: Amargin the Gael from five to 15 members, playing Celtic songs, jigs and reels. 2 3pm: Little Sister four members, including female singer, playing modern rock and pop. * In the Lisvane Memorial Hall from 12 noon if the weather is inclement LISVANE VILLAGE SONGS OF PRAISE St Denys Church, 6pm St Denys and Lisvane Baptist Churches come together to worship and celebrate songs old and new. The whole community is invited to join in and everyone is assured of a warm welcome. Sunday 5 July LISVANE PANTHERS FUN DAY ** Due to the Velothon Wales 2015, this will now take place after the Festival fortnight ** am: Open Day for boys and girls who want to join the youngest Panthers squads for next season. Prospective players need to be entering school year 2 or 3 in September noon 5pm: Fun day for the Panthers Mini section players.
