1 April 2012 The Centre Newsletter No 3. The Elsea Park has been handed over by Kier Homes and opened to the public in April Facilities will be available for hire from June Come and look round: drop in the Centre Monday Friday INSIDE THIS ISSUE Handover of the Centre & Amenity Area Poster Competition Results Opening Weekend Programme Facilities for hire How to get tickets
2 NOT JUST THE CENTRE As well as taking ownership of the Centre, the Trust took ownership of the amenity and play areas including the Linear Park. Handover followed several inspections and agreements were reached about future maintenance of newly landscaped areas. For instance, the Linear Park and The Pollards will be covered by an external maintenance cost, at no cost to residents, until the Autumn. The areas the Trust have taken on are those formerly owned by Kier. We will be entering similar arrangements with the other developers on Elsea Park. Signing the legal transfer document are resident directors Angela Bailey, Chairman of the Trust, and Barry Cook, Deputy Chairman On our inspection of the amenity areas we came across a local resident and family, enjoying feeding the ducks in the sun. The ponds and fountains are appreciated by many residents and provide a distinctive entrance to Elsea Park. The ponds did not form part of the transfer at this time but will do in the future.
3 POSTER COMPETITION There was a terrific response to the Poster Competition. Some outstanding works of art arrived at the Trust Office and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the trouble to enter. We really appreciated the thought and effort you put into illustrating what The Centre means to you. The judges thought long and hard about which poster would best advertise our Grand Opening and finally chose the very clever design by AMY TAYLOR (Age 10) which you see on the enclosed postcard (More about the postcard later). Amy s poster incorporates not only all the possible uses of The Centre, but also some of the wildlife which is a very important part of the conservation ethos of Elsea Park Estate, so well done to Amy who was judged best in the Age The other winning entries came from Lily-Kate Derrick (Age 4) in the Under Sevens and Megan Goode (Age 15) in the group. All three prize winners will receive a 25 book token at the Opening Ceremony which starts at 11 a.m. on 26th May, so make sure you don t miss the chance to give them a cheer.
4 THE GRAND OPENING EVENT WEEKEND 26TH AND 27TH MAY Those hardworking members of the Residents Group have been busy finalising the details of the Grand Opening Event Weekend. Most of the arrangements are now in place, so here is the fun-packed timetable so far: SATURDAY 26TH MAY 11 am THE OPENING CEREMONY. Members of the Elsea Park Community Trust Board will officially open The Centre with the help of the Poster Competition Prize winners. Come and have a hot drink and a piece of cake to celebrate. 8 THE VERY IMPORTANT POSTCARD how to get your tickets and also BBQ Vouchers From Tuesday 8 May we shall be selling tickets from Reception at The Centre. Mondays to Fridays 6 7 pm, Saturdays & Sundays 2 3 pm. DON T FORGET: Even though the barbecue is free, you will still need a ticket to get your burger or hotdog! By now you will have discovered the postcard inserted in this newsletter. This is a very important card. On the back, you will see the sections marked for the various events that require tickets. These are The Barbecue (FREE), The Barn Dance and Hog Roast ( 5) and cheese and wine/soft drink on Sunday ( 1). This is just so that we have some idea of the numbers to be served. Bring your postcard which will be marked with the number and types of ticket you have been given. Please try to bring the correct money with you. Remember, numbers for the Barn Dance are limited to 120 people, but if the tickets sell out quickly, don t be too disappointed if the evening is a success more NEWS STAND Gas Regulations A resident has brought to our attention that new gas regulations mean that gas heating systems which have internal flue must have an inspection hatch fitted to it on each floor that it passes through. If the hatch is not fitted when the boiler is serviced the engineer must turn off the boiler. The boiler must not be used until the hatches are fitted. The requirement is retrospective and is related to carbon monoxide safety. We understand that homes in The Pollards have this type of design but they may be others across Elsea Park. This does not affect homes which have through the wall boiler flues. The Trust provides this for information only and is unable to provide further detail or respond to queries. Further information can be found at flues_in_voids.aspx Adult Gym Equipment By the date of publication five pieces of adult gym equipment should have been placed along the Linear Park. The Trust have provided the equipment with the aim that residents can have fun and at the same time improve their fitness.
