A M O N T H L Y N E W S L E T T E R F R O M T H E PTA Congratulations to our lucky winners from Bingo Night. Thank goodness Mr. Dave shoveled all the snow so Bingo Night could continue as planned! Game 1 Corvin Hendrickson & Joy Zaki Game 2 Liam Logan Game 3 Morgan Hunter Game 4 Elias Paone Game 5 Elias Paone Game 6 Jayson Hunter, Cam Utter, Joy Zaki Game 7 Noah Adelman Game 8 Mia Fernandes Game 9 Jake Frederick Game 10 Jayson Hunter Finally It's Spring!! By Cooper Torrelio I couldn't take any more snow. It was so hard to get anywhere with all of the snow! There were days when the temperature was below zero. And the worst part was that it snowed on the first day of spring! I hope the warm And the winner is...mrs. Birckbichler's 2nd grade class! Great job, everyone! We raised over $400 for our PTA!
Assembly By: T.J. Lynch The Rainforest assembly was AWESOME. On March 18, Rick from Rainforest Encounters came to Bowne- Munro to teach us about rainforests and how rainforests are being demolished because of habitat loss and human demand. We saw everything from a blue macaw to a tarantula to an iguana to a boa constrictor. Rick taught us about each animal and taught all of us a lot about rainforests and its critters. One fact that stood out to me is that iguanas are called Chickens of The Trees because where iguanas come from they are in high demand. Not because the people want pets...they want an expensive dinner. I learned a lot. Did you? By Emma Szaro On Wednesday, March 18, we had a Rainforest Assembly. A man brought in a bunch of animals for us to see. I thought they were all so cool but my favorite was the blue and gold macaw. I thought the whole assembly was just awesome! I hope you liked the assembly as much as I did. By Jessica Han On March 18, 2015 we had a Rainforest Assembly and we learned a lot about Rainforest animals like the red tail boa, the blue tongued skunk, the iguana and the blue & gold macaw. We also learned about their habitats in the Rainforest like: in the trees, the floor or both and how the habitats gave them their needs. The man even picked volunteers to hold the animals or walk around the gym with them on them. The funny part was that 1 or 2 kids didn't want to hold the Madagascar hissing cockroaches and walk around the gym so it took us a few minutes to find somebody that would do it which was Grant Bayuk in fourth grade. The red tail boa took 7 kids to hold the whole thing and 4 or 5 kids got to feed Dorothy which is the blue and gold Macaw. She ate different dried food like seeds or banana chips. But the sad part was that the person barely picked any fourth or fifth graders for some reason but he picked a lot of third and second graders... mostly third graders.
Testing By Miriam Badawi Last week the fourth grade took the PARCC test and it was a new experience for me. I never took a test on the computer before. The PARCC test was hard but I think ILA was a little harder than the math. I was a little scared to take the PARCC test but it was not as bad as I thought. It was a little hard but the PARCC test is not scary so don't be afraid of it. By Jessica Han On March 3 rd, third, fourth, and fifth graders had the PARCC instead of the NJ Ask because they changed it now. The PARCC Test was a little hard for me especially the math part of it because I had to answer multiple questions for one equation but for some reason the ILA part of the PARCC was easier. We have another PARCC Test in May because the people want to see how much we've improved during the 2 or 3 months learning more things/stuff in ILA and Math. So good luck to you all on the second PARCC Test in May and I hope all of you guys did well in both of them when you find out in a few months! Crazy Winter Weather By: Ethan Storm The two snow days that we had were crazy! The first one was good but it was the last snow day that was allowed in the year. The next one was after that and because of that one, we lost a day of spring break! And one other day in that month there was a big snow storm on the first day of spring. All my after school activities were canceled due to the weather. It made my karate school close and my sister s dance studio close. The weather was an interruption to the yearly spring break! It made me mad when the second snow day came because we lost a day of one of the days of the weeks that we get off! So, remember...we HAVE SCHOOL ON APRIL 10! All students were recently photographed by Lifetouch as part of our Spring Picture Fundraiser. Look for proofs to come home soon. These proofs are NOT free. You must either submit payment or return the photos. Any questions, BownePTA@yahoo.com. Last call for yearbooks By Gavin Seaver If you want to get a yearbook, order it now. yearbooks are a great way to catch up on the events of the school year. they have the classes, students, special events, and even baby pictures of 5th graders. Order your yearbook before april 14!!! By Jessica Han Fourth Grade Sports Squad just ended on March 12, 2015 which is very sad because it's really fun. If you join, that means you get 3 gym periods a week which is great for kids that love gym. Too bad that fifth and fourth grade Sports Squad is over until next year. So if you love gym, you should join Sports Squad in third grade because you get to play games that you normally play in gym at eight o'clock am which is even before school starts or at least morning meeting.
Bowne-Munro Drama Club proudly presented ScHool DAzE 2.0 By Riley Seaver The Drama Club production was very cool! It was called, "School Daze 2.0." I was part of the backstage crew and a lot of my friends were in the show. Thanks to Ms. Gombas for painting the beautiful backdrop and a special thanks to Ms. McNally and Mrs. Schwam for making the whole show happen. Everyone was amazing!! By Steven Pepe The basketball game was so much fun! It was played on Monday, March 30 th. The kids won the game, 37-34! This game was the most fun I probably ever had this year. We each got chances to shoot and get the ball. The teachers were doing well until then at the end, the kids came back to win. In the game, somehow, from the corner, I shot the ball from the corner to make a three pointer! Lots of people also had good plays, such as getting a block. Be ready 4 th gradersthe teachers are tough! And congratulations to our foul-shooting contest winners: Devin Glynn, Michael Caroselli, Matthew Tell and Michael Pepe
Bowne Mom's Night Out! All students will visit the plant sale on May 8th. Please RSVP by April 16 since a final headcount must be submitted a week before. Wine & Design 75 North Main Street Milltown, NJ Any questions, contact Tricia Seaver (tpseaver@comcast.net). The PTA is able to offer beautiful, top quality plants, flowers, vegetables, and herbs as pre-sales only. Refer to the flyer. Pre-Orders must be received by April 15. Any questions, contact Cindi Utter Trash Power By Steven Pepe In science, we started our new unit: Trash Power. To start off, we got assigned different groups by Mrs. Ferrara. We got to research different types of energy. Fossil Fuels, biomass, and hydropower are some examples of energy that we get from different resources, and ones that groups are researching. It is fun, and we presented on Tuesday, March 31. I wonder what will be next after we do this! Are you interested in holding a position on the Bowne-Munro PTA Board? President Executive VP Membership VP Fundraising VP Communications Treasurer Recording Secretary Corresponding Secretary Please write a letter of intent, address it to the Nominating Committee, and place it in the PTA mailbox or BownePTA@yahoo.com. Deadline for submissions is Sunday, April 12. The 39 Clues The Hunger Games Mocking Jay part 1 By Alyson Matecki This movie was released last year on November 21, This movie had action, drama, and fantasy. This movie is rated PG-13. It lasts 2 hours 5 min. I hope you see the Hunger games Mocking Jay part 1. In my opinion, this was the best movie from last year. By Steven Pepe The 39 clues is about 2 kids, Amy who is 13, and Dan who is 11. They get picked from a group of only 40 people out of a ton of people at their grandmother Grace s funeral. To these people, they present a challenge. To take one million dollars of Grace s, or take the challenge of the 39 clues which leads to the greatest power of them all. Which one will they choose? To find out, read the first book, called The Maze of Bones!
