1 BASIS Phoenix Extracurricular Activities Catalog -- Fall 2014 If you wish to sign up for an extracurricular, please follow the directions on the last page of this catalog to add the fee and pay for the club on your Smart for Charters account. There is now a drop down feature under the "Add Charges" section of your account. Your student will not be able to participate in a club/activity until payment has been made and applicable waivers have been completed. The Arizona Tax Credit Program allows Arizona tax-payers to contribute up to $200 as individuals and up to $400 as married couples (filing jointly) for the support of extracurricular activities at a public/charter school. These tax credit contributions will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on Arizona income tax returns. If you would like to take advantage of this program, be sure to indicate the amount you would like to designate when signing up for a club on Smart for Charters. Scratch introduces students to the basics of computer programming through the creation of interactive stories, games, and animations. Students will use creative computing and design-based learning to overcome challenges and create personal projects. Students will draw on their creativity in arts (music, design, and drawing) and writing skills to design and support their programming projects. The Scratch programing tool uses pre-built "blocks" to construct programs, suitable for novice programmers. This allows students to focus on code logic and project design over memorizing a specific computer language syntax such as C++ or Java. Advisor: Ms. Ashley Brown Grades: 5th & 6th only Meeting day/time: Wednesdays, 2:50 3:50 pm End Date: December 17, 2014 Maximum Students Allowed: 30 (Lottery will take place if necessary. Rather than rehearsing one large stage production, Drama Club members will participate in a collaborative setting and work on several projects throughout the year.
