5 Howdy from Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD)!!! Page 5 There is so much going on here in our beautiful state of Virginia!!! With 3 fully active clubs, there are plenty of opportunities to attend practice meetings and matches! All three clubs are working very hard at promoting Cowboy Fast Draw here in the East and South by not only conducting great home club matches, but also scheduling several off site demos and matches. Things are really busy here in the Ol Dominion!! First, I want to say Congratulations to the winners of ODFD s April Monthly Match on Boothill, Melungeon in the Men s Division and Slowpoke in the Women s Division!! Both competitors did a fantastic job showing some great Gunfightin Skills!! And both show the fantastic spirit and enthusiasm for Cowboy Fast Draw here in Virginia. Great job to you both!! A complete list of Finish Placements can be found on our website. The same information and format will be used for June s Monthly Match as well on SATURDAY, THE 16TH!! Please note the change of the shooting day, Saturday instead of Sunday. Fathers Day is on the 17 th. In addition to the June Match, there are two (2) scheduled practice evenings on Boothill. Both are on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm and the dates are June 6 th and 13 th. ODFD along with New River Fast Draw (NRFD) will be conducting a demo and Towns Folk Alley on Saturday June 23 rd at NEW RIVER SPORTS in Draper VA. Come and help us out if you can! The folks at New River Sports are having a type of Grand Opening or Open House and have invited us to be part of the day s celebration. New River Sports will be offering door prizes as well as furnishing food and drink to all participants throughout the day!! We will be there at 9am that morning until closing. New River Sports has jumped on board as a supporter of Cowboy Fast draw and has donated a very nice revolver to be given away at our State Championship. Check out New River Sport s website at Great News!!! TAYLOR S AND COMPANY has also joined up as a supporter of our upcoming State Championship by also donating a revolver!!! A special thanks goes out to Sue, Tammy and the rest of the Taylor s and Company crew!! Check out Taylor s & Company s website at It s also getting close. SHOWDOWN IN DIXIE, THE CFDA S 2012 VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPI- ONSHIP is almost here!!! The dates are July 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th!!! It is going to be awesome!!! It will be good to host our friends, both old and new!! ODFD along with our friends and fellow Virginia Clubs are working hard to make the match something that will be remembered and talked about for a long time by the participants. We want every one of them to have a fantastic experience and want to return in the future!! This year, we are making an effort to incorporate Virginia history and folklore within the match. We want our visitors to leave with a feeling of what Virginia is to our residents. After all, it is considered the birthplace of our nation as well as the Capital of the Confederacy. More info on SHOWDOWN IN DIXIE can be found on our website!!! Then later in July, on Saturday the 28 th, ODFD will be hosting a match at the National Day Of The Cowboy in Buckingham County. More details will follow on that event!!! I hope to see you here at ODFD or at one of the other Virginia Clubs sometime soon!! A lot of Cowboy Fast Draw opportunities to choose from. See you on the line!!!! Ringo aka Jeff Duncan CFDA Regulator and U.S. Marshal

6 Page 6 The Firing Line Bend of Trail By Tom Wills (aka Rowe-A-Noc) Well folks, another month has come and gone. Did you spend time at the range? The Cowboys did. We just finished a Shooter Improvement Class. The 10 spots were filled, and there were no cancellations. It was a long day of class instructions and practice on the range. Cowboy Action Shooting is a Sport. It's fun and laid back competition but there is still that feeling of wanting to improve on how you shoot and how you shoot as compared to others. Is TIME friend or foe? Planning your shoot and what you do when you are not on the firing line makes time your friend. But if you waste all of it socializing you will never be competitive. If you spend all your time concentrating on shooting, you will take the fun out of the Sport. You must learn to strike a balance and maintain it. When on the firing line, time is your enemy and must not be wasted. The day was spent discussing and practicing ways to use time to your advantage and ways to be more efficient when shooting and moving while on the clock. Spending more money on equipment does not necessarily make you a better shooter or competitor. Practice and eliminating unnecessary moves (between shots) is the key to becoming a better competitor. But you still have to hit the targets, too. All this is true in any sport. RRRC has many shooting venues. Come watch the Cowboys at our monthly matches or better yet, join us. Take time to watch and join the other shooting venues at RRRC. You may just find another sport you wish to participate in that you hadn't considered before. OUR range is looking good. Let's keep it that way. Volunteer to help out with work when and where it's needed. Get your work hours in now. Help keep our range clean by picking up and discarding your brass properly. Just because you shoot 22 rim fire doesn't mean someone else should clean up your mess. Don't forget the 3 rd Saturday in August (08/18/12). Cowboy Action will be holding another New Shooter's Clinic on Range A from 9 AM till 2 PM. It will again be limited to 12 participants. There is no obligation, just contact me to get on the list. All guns, leather and ammo will be provided at no cost. There is only a $10.00 fee to go to RRRC. I will be contacting those that didn't get in on our April Clinic. But there are still some vacancies left. Contact me if you are interested. It's only 10 weeks away. This shoot is based on the Josey Wales Movie. It's an annual favorite of the Cowboys, where we use 4 Pistols and a Shotgun. (2 Pistols replace the Rifle but the targets are still set at Rifle distance). In July we will have our Wild Bunch Match based on the movie and we will be using 1911s and 97 pump shotguns. Until we meet again...
