Brad wrote about his involvement in the school s Sound and Ligh ng Crew and the School Farm and described how this involvement li ed his confidence and par cipa on in school and enabled him to enjoy school and be elected the school s vice captain. Bradley won the Mid North Coast Regional Heywire compe on and he worked with the ABC producers to have his story featured on ABC Radio. It was heard na onally and interna onally. Along with 36 other regional winners from around Australia, Bradley spent one week in Canberra to develop ideas to make posi ve change in communi es at the Heywire Regional Youth Summit. During the summit, the regional winners talked with members of parliament and community leaders, par cipated in leadership training and had their ideas heard in the na onal capital. You can hear and read Bradley s story at h p:// stories/2014/12/ htm#.vq5bm2f9niu

Victoria Avenue Drops In Country Pop band Victoria Avenue called into Kempsey High a few weeks ago during their trip to the CMC Rocks Qld fes val. The girls put on a great lunch me performance in the hall and delivered perfect harmonies which delighted the students. The concert featured songs from the girls latest self tled EP including Quit You which went to the top of the itunes Country Charts when it was first heard last year. Thank you Holly Moore, Tiara Maceri and Peta Ingleton, the girls which make up Victoria Avenue. Need a Tax File Number? The Taxa on Office has stopped issuing Tax File Numbers using the forms available from schools. In future, students wan ng a tax file number should go online to h ps:// for a TFN on the web/
Camden Haven Show Although the rain tumbled down at the Camden Haven Show, turning the parade ring into a quagmire, it did not daunt the enthusiasm of the ca le team in the parading and judging. In the parading, Kempsey High School won first places in the 13, 14, 15 and 16 years (Callum Clarke, Ka e Barne, Merinda Kyle, Drew Walsh); second place in the 12, 14 novice and 15 years (Ellieigah Dowling, Ka e Barne and Kyle Barclay); and third in the 13 and 15 years (Connor Corbe and Jennifer Mitchell). In the judging, the school took first places in the 15 and 16 years (Jennifer Mitchell and Drew Walsh); second in the 12 novice and 17 years (Cameron Hewi and Rachael Bednarz) and third in the 16 years (Alya Holmes). It was a clean sweep in the middle weight steers with Melanie Nu named grand champion with Dingo (Limosin), Blake Carmady winning reserve champion with Kip (AngusXSimmental) and Kaila Strong taking third place with Anarchy (Angus). Rachael Bednarz won reserve champion in the heavy weight steers with Sprinkles (CharolaisXBrangus). It was a big weekend for both Drew Walsh who was named grand champion parader and reserve champion judge and Merinda Kyle who won reserve champion parader.
Heart Founda on Fund Raiser Kempsey High School raised funds for The Heart Founda on when Valen nes Day came round. The seniors were quick to claim pink cake stall rights while students in the photography class organised a photo booth (the photography lab). There was a steady stream of friendship groups and best friends who had a lot of fun crea ng their photos.
Cross Country Carnival
The annual Kempsey High School Cross Country run was held in great condi ons at Hat Head recently. A er the run around the outskirts of Hat Head and along the beach, the students and staff enjoyed a BBQ lunch before par cipa ng in a range of spor ng and recrea on ac vi es including fishing, touch football, cricket, soccer, surfing, lawn bowls, sand modelling and beach volleyball. In the house compe on, Barrie House took first place with 394 points, followed by Lawson House (356 points), Masefield House (210 points) and Kipling House (154 points). The age champions are: 12 Years: Chais Schlenert and Kirra Davison. 13 Years: Ivan Madden and Kaitlin Hutley. 14 Years: Jackson Korn and Emma Mitchell. 15 Years: Thanakorn (Darm) Phakphai and Ka e Barne. 16 Years: Kyle Barclay and Jennifer Mitchell. 17+ Years: Drew Walsh and Jade Konieczny.
First Aid Training North Coast Medicare Local through a generous grant provided by the staff at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia provided first aid training to senior students last December. The number of students who applied to do the one day course exceeded the number of places so Medicare Local provided a second course during term 1 this year. The students in the first course gave it a high level of approval because of the excellent presenta on, knowledgeable presenters and its use of real life examples. The students found the Cardio Pulmonary Resuscita on training and the work with mannequins and the heart defibrillator highly engaging. Students over 16 years received a na onally recognised qualifica on and those under 16 years received a cer ficate of comple on. We want to thank the presenters and Annie Orenshaw from Medicare Local for their great work.
