1 Eastern Illinois University EIU Cheer & Pink Panthers Dance Team March 30 & 31, 2019 EIU Cheer and Pink Panthers Dance Team: We are two separate teams united by school spirit! Each independent team has the same common goal: to support Eastern Illinois University along with its students, activities, and athletic teams. Our program also focuses on helping members grow in their talents while teaching responsibility, teamwork, and discipline. All members will follow the same constitution that aligns with the expectations and values of the athletics department. Membership: Individuals are allowed membership to only one team, either EIU Cheer or Pink Panthers Dance. When you are offered a position on the EIU Cheer or Pink Panthers Dance team you are committing to an active role in building an even stronger spirit program. Your season begins day one of tryouts and ends day one of tryouts for the following season. Our heaviest time commitment is during football and basketball season. After basketball season our practices are lighter in preparation for the next season. Tentative EIU Cheer Practice Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7-9pm Tentative Pink Panthers Dance Team Practice Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 5-7pm *These times are likely to change based on coach s/athlete s schedules* REQUIRED MATERIALS FOR TRYOUT (attached at end of this document) 1.) Dance / Cheer Team Application Form 2.) Signed Proof of Insurance Form 3.) Varsity Tryout Waiver 4.) Current physical that has been completed in the last year ( academic year) 5.) A current full body picture in cheer / dance attire

2 Dance Tryouts: What to wear Women: Black sports bra or workout tank and form fitting shorts or pants Men: Black shirt and black shorts Jazz shoes (bring athletic shoes) Gameday hair and makeup look Do not wear any EIU attire Dance Tryout Schedule: Saturday, March 30th, a.m. Check-in/open stretch (sign up for interview time during check-in) 9 a.m. Noon Dance Choreography and Technique Lunch Break 1 2 p.m. Choreography Review 1 2 p.m. Interviews (interviews will be held one at a time) 2:15 p.m. Tryouts/Callbacks (Callbacks require that everyone stay at tryouts for the full duration unless released with permission from the coach) Dance Skills Requirements: Most of the following Performance ability o Energized, powerful performance ability o Always on o Ability to learn choreography quickly and execute choreography accurately Able to implement corrections quickly Dance Technique o Double/Triple Pirouette o Turns in Second (at least 3 into a double turn) o Flexibility All Splits o High Kicks, Tilt Kick, Fan Kick o Split Leap, Center Leap o Tilt Jump o Toe Touch o Turning Disc o Calypso

3 Cheer Tryouts: What to wear Women- black sports bra or black workout tank and black form fitting shorts Men- black shirt and black shorts Plain white cheer shoes or athletic shoes Hair half up with bow Gameday Makeup look Do not wear any EIU attire Cheer Tryout Schedule: Sunday, March 31st, a.m. Check-in/open stretch (sign up for an interview time during check-in) 9 am 11 a.m. Tumbling and Stunts 11 a.m. Noon Sideline Choreography Lunch Break 1 2 p.m. Material Review 1 2 p.m. Interviews (interviews will be one at a time) 2:15 p.m. Tryouts/Callbacks (Callbacks require that everyone stay for the full duration of tryouts unless released with permission from the coach) Cheer Skills (female) Requirements: Most of the following Ability to pick up changes quickly and implement corrections quickly Stunt group position o Flyer: Single leg stunt to a full down o Side Base: Ability to lift a stunt without turning or making the stunt uncomfortable for the other members o Main Base: Ability to lift a stunt without turning or making the stunt uncomfortable for the other members o Back Spot: The strongest member of the stunt group and has the ability to keep a stunt from falling Tumbling o Running Roundoff o Additional tumbling is encouraged but not required Jumps o Toe touch

4 o Right and left hurdler o Pike Sideline Choreography o Can learn quickly and execute choreography accurately Chants/Gameday Appearance o Loud projection o Powerful, energized performance Cheer Skills (Male) Requirements: Most of the following Toss to hands for coeds o Base: Can execute ability or potential to perform stunt Walk-ins for coeds o Base: Can execute ability or potential to perform stunt Stunt group position: o Side base: Ability to lift a stunt without turning or making the stunt uncomfortable for other members o Main Base: Ability to lift a stunt without turning or making the stunt uncomfortable for other members o Back Spot: The strongest member of the stunt group and has ability to keep a stunt from falling Tumbling o Running Roundoff o Additional tumbling is encouraged but not required Chants/Gameday Appearance o Loud projection o Powerful, energized performance Video Tryouts: You must get approval from the coach prior to submitting a video tryout. Video must include all elements on the tryout scoresheet and be presented in a professional manner. Video tryout will be followed up with a phone or in-person interview. The parent/guardian s personal or injury insurance policy will be utilized as the primary insurance for the treatment of injuries and hospitalization for illness or injuries incurred during the tryout. If you do not possess health coverage, a temporary policy covering the EIU Dance/Cheer Tryout must be purchased (through your insurance agent) to cover the camper for the duration of the sports camp. The name of health insurance carrier and policy number must be written below in order to attend an EIU Dance / Cheer Tryout.
