1 Car Guy News Volume 4, Issue 4 April, 2012 Official Publication of the Top Dead Center Motor Club PO BOX 173 Lionville PA TDC M O T O R C L U B N E W W E B P A G E Monthly General Meetings are held the First Tuesday of the month 7:00pm at Tom Oates Automotive in Chester Springs, PA Officers: President: Vice President: Secretary: Treasurer: Coordinators: Membership: Activities: Calendar: Webmaster: Editor: Joe O Fria Dan Bourdon Frank Shimer Joseph O Fria III Denise Stoltzfus Connie Robinson Harry Panson Jason O Fria Carolyn Hibbs Visit our new web TDCMotorclub.com In our new web site, we have a section for photos of past events. If you have any pictures you have and would like to share with other members, please them to Jason@tdcmotorclub.com. And don't forget to visit the web site to find Presidents Message Cruising season is upon us. Go Out and Enjoy! Don t let anything stop you. Below are a few tips to make it easier. Six Tips to Save Money on Gasoline As gas prices flirt with the $4 mark and $5 looming in the not-too-distant future, concern by motorist is huge and I am one of those motorist. Of course, we can always go out and buy a more fuel efficient vehicle, but I ve already done that. 1. Drive slower and smarter: Every 5 mph you drive over 60 costs you an additional 24 cents per gal. The sweet spot for fuel savings is 55 mph, but slowing from 70 to 60 can help a lot. 2. Reduce idling: Warming the car up is one thing. Letting it idle outsides stores, in front of a friends house or at a RR crossing is another. If there is a long line at the drive thru, park and go inside. Combine errands making one trip instead of several. 3. Shop Smarter: Smart phones: now make it easier to find the best prices in your location. GasBuddy.com & CheapGas.com can guide you to the best price on your route. 4. Fill up the tank mid-week: Gas up on Wednesday or very early Thursday. Prices generally go up at 10:00 am in anticipation of weekend travel. Don't buy gas on the weekend, unless it's a deal. 5. Do regular maintenance: Keep your vehicle running smoothly to get maximum fuel efficiency. Use the correct grade of motor oil, change it regularly and keep your tires properly inflated and aligned. All make a difference. 6. Skip premium fuel: Unless your vehicle requires premium gas, (the big blocks) you can save 50 to 30 cents if your owner's manual says it will take regular. Exception: Knocking Engines....Just my way of keeping in touch with a SMILE. Are you SMILING yet? If the urge strikes to light them up, Just Do It!! And be careful Joe O Fria, President
