2 Dear Prospective Bhangra Team, Thank you for your interest in competing at Australia s premier Bhangra Championship, Bhangra Down Under III. The show will be held on 26th September. Teams are requested to submit the registration packet, and audition video. The registration deadline is set for 11:59 PM on Monday, 25th May. The registration packet, along with video file, must be submitted via to. The non-refundable registration fee should be submitted electronically by the deadline advised at the next stage. Account information will be provided. If your team is unable to submit electronically, you may send registration materials to the address below. We will notify you about your team s entry status, as well as additional information via as well as social media. If selected, your team is required to pay the nonrefundable registration fee of $300, within set deadline, as part of your acceptance to compete at Bhangra Down Under. 3 TEAM REGISTRATION PROCESS Application The Bhangra team is required to provide the following: BHANGRA DOWN UNDER III 1. Team Logo (high resolution). 2. Team Biography. 3. Two Team Images (high resolution). 4. Past Bhangra performance video- YouTube link (HD) 5. Completed Registration Form (attached) 6. All team members must sign and date the attached Waiver and Release Form. A legible copy should be scanned and submitted electronically or mailed, as advised previously 7. If successfully chosen to compete, make electronic payment, as advised. The Audition Video All dancers must be clearly visible in the video. The video should be submitted in a digital format and sent to the address provided above using as a portal. The deadline for all audition videos is no later than 25th May. Requirements: Video must have 10 dancers Duration: seconds (video must be minimum 60 seconds and a maximum of 90 seconds The audition track must incorporate 30 seconds of the EXACT track provided below. from.30s to 1.00m #BDU #BhangraDownUnder

4 The Selection Process There will be a maximum of 10 teams competing at Bhangra Down Under. This includes by default, the champions from 2014 Federation of Bhangra, Bhangra All Stars Sydney and Melbourne Bhangra Regiment. Further, up to 7 more teams will be selected by the BDU committee. Teams will be selected based on the video submitted for auditioning i.e.; be able to formulate a creative, synchronized and well executed Bhangra dance routine with 10 dancers. Selection will not be based on the quality of the submitted video or past performance. All submitted applications will be processed after the closing date and teams will be shortlisted thereafter. The shortlisted teams will be informed of their selection via and subsequently announced publicly via social and other media. A decision will be made within 10 working days from close of registration and submission. The audition video assessment will be conducted by a neutral subset of the BDU committee, comprising of Ajit Chauhan, Harjot Hundal, Sukhdeep Singh and Tanveer Bedi.If selected, your team will be required to pay the $300 non-refundable registration fee by the set deadline, as acceptance to compete at Bhangra Down Under The selected competing teams will be ed a Competing Team Pack, following the acceptance to compete. 5 COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS BHANGRA DOWN UNDER III 1. The competition is open to any Professional Bhangra Dance Group, Bhangra Dance Academy, University Bhangra Group, and Competition-Only Group interested in applying. 2. The minimum age required to participate in this competition is 18 years. In the case where a performing team member is under the age of 18, their parent MUST provide a guardian consent form. Every underage performer MUST have an adult guardian present throughout the show and the mixer. 3. No individual is permitted to perform for more than one team. 4. Each team must have a minimum of 10 dancers and maximum of 20 dancers. The team is allowed to have 2 managers/alternates. 5. Bhangra Down Under is a MUSIC mix competition only. However, if a team wishes to incorporate any live segments, the maximum time allowed for live performances is 2 minutes. 6. All performances are to be minimum 7 maximum 8 minutes in length. Your time starts as soon as the mix or the boli commence. 7. The Performing team will be given 2 minutes prior to the start of their performance to set up and 1 minute to leave the stage at the end of their performance. A team that fails to abide can face deductions. 8. No Tag Team Bhangra allowed. All dancers are to be present throughout the entire routine. No dancers are allowed to leave the stage during the stage during the routine. 9. There must only be one track of supplied music. Any gaps for pauses or silences must be pre-recorded into the mix. The music mix must be created/mastered to the same volume throughout. The music mix will not be tampered or altered with under any circumstances during the stage rehearsals or competition performance. 10. The participating team MUST provide own instruments, props and costume(s). You are allowed to use props and instruments as part of the performance. It is your responsibility to make sure they do not pose a safety hazard to the others. #bdu

6 11. Your team is responsible for any damage and/or loss of props or other belongings brought to the venue. 12. Causing damage to the stage floor from props, sticks, etc. is prohibited. No candles/open fire or sharp items such as swords/knives are allowed to be used as part of the performance. Teams will be liable for any fees related to structural or surface damage to the floor or venue, as well as point deduction from the overall score. 13. Glitter, confetti, or any other items that will require clean up are strictly prohibited. Any team using these may be disqualified and/or point deductions from their overall score. 14. Damage to the venue and/or surrounding property is a criminal offence and will be reported accordingly. In addition, teams will be held liable for any damage. 15. The Team Manager MUST ensure ALL performers who are part of the team are adequately covered by their own entertainment/personal insurance. Participants are solely responsible for all items, including music, props, instruments, clothes, jewellery etc. 16. There will be mandatory stage rehearsals on the day of the competition. All teams will promptly arrive at the venue at the time notified by the organizers. Each team will be assigned a 20 minute time slot. If a team misses their rehearsal time, they will NOT be reassigned to practice their routine. 17. No team will be allowed to view another team during stage rehearsals. 18. On the day of the competition all members of a team must be ready backstage at least 30 minutes before their allocated performance time. 19. It is compulsory for all competing teams to attend the Teams Mixer. More info on team mixer will be provided later to selected teams. 20. The song selection throughout must not contain vulgar/abusive/explicit use of lyrics in ANY Language. There must be no reference to alcohol/ drugs in the songs used, under any circumstances. No songs to be used which disrespect women or another religion. 21. The Registration fee is non-fundable if your team is selected or if your team is disqualified/decides to withdraw from the competition. #bdu

7 22. Confrontation of any sort with the Organizing Committee, volunteers or judges will not be tolerated. Selected teams will have a Liaison person and teams are strictly required to forward their queries to their liaison. 23. The organizing committee may opt to change and/or add rules at their discretion. All teams will be duly notified of any change or addition to the rules and regulations via If, at anytime during the competition be it before, during, or immediately after the show, a team member violates any rules, that team will be asked to leave immediately, regardless of whether they have performed. The team will not be permitted to participate in the event from that point onwards. 25. Judges will be selected by the Bhangra Down Under Committee based on prior dance experience, judging experience (if any), and any other criteria deemed worthy. Judges decision will be final and no team will be allowed to question it. Judges score sheets/feedback will be provided to teams within 5 working days after the competition via to the primary contact for the team. 26. Any participating team member must not make contact with any of the judges who form part of the official panel of judges. Contacting judges directly will result in penalties. 27. The participating team is NOT allowed any entrance waivers for any guests accompanying them. Only team members and 2 managers are allowed free entry. All other guests must purchase a valid ticket for the competition. 28. All teams are to respect Punjabi & Australian culture at all times. 29. Australian Punjabi Arts and Cultural Association Inc. reserve the right to cancel the competition. They reserve the right to reschedule any part of the contest due to weather, emergency, or other circumstances that might arise; providing such circumstances are beyond the control of the organizing committee. #bdu

8 OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION Team Liaison BHANGRA DOWN UNDER III Each selected team will have a team liaison assigned to them who will work closely with the team manager. Any queries should strictly be directed to the allocated liason person. Our liaison will be happy to help with any appropriate queries you may have regarding BDU. Food & Drink Complimentary refreshments and bottled water will be provided for all competing team members on the competition day. All other food and drink must be purchased at the venue (after 4pm). Consumption of Alcohol and Smoking is not allowed. Any team members found using intoxicating substances and consuming alcohol will be disqualified immediately. Storage of Props/Instruments We are not responsible for the safe keep of any props or instruments. Teams are responsible for their own belongings, at all times. After Your Performance The Team Manager is responsible for ensuring the changing room/area is clean and tidy at all times. We urge all team members to store props/instruments/belongings within vehicles as soon as possible after their performance. Delay in vacating the room 30 minutes after the show ends will result in a fine of $100 per team, which will be payable immediately if delay is caused by the competing teams and not by Bhangra Down Under Management. Financial Support BDU is not responsible for financing any International or Interstate Bhangra Team who will be selected to compete at BDU. All travel/living costs will be the responsibility of the dancers and team themselves. However, our Team Liaison Personnel will make every effort to guide International/ Interstate teams regarding accommodation, transfers, and transport in Melbourne, #bdu

9 which can be negotiated at a discounted rate on your behalf. All Competing Teams will be provided with subsidized coach transfers from Hotel to the competition venue (return journey) on the day of the competition. #bdu

11 LIABILITY WAIVER AND RELEASE FORM 1. I hereby agree with the Bhangra Down Under Committee that I will not institute any suit or action of law or otherwise against BDU, any members of the BDU Committee, or institute, prosecute or in any way aid the prosecution of any claim, demand, action, or cause of action for damages, costs, loss of service, expenses, or compensation for or on account of any and all known and unknown, foreseen, and unforeseen bodily and personal injuries, damages to property, and the consequences thereof, resulting from my participation in the Bhangra Down Under, competition. 2. I hereby understand that the Bhangra Down Under Committee may practice discretion with their selection process. I understand that the committee is not required to divulge any information regarding team selection, unless they see fit. 3. I hereby certify that I have read and agreed to all the rules and regulations of the Bhangra Down Under, competition set forth by the Australian Punjabi Arts & Cultural Committee.
