1 NZCU Coaches Conference The NZCU is very excited to bring a DO-NOT-MISS opportunity to the New Zealand cheerleading community for our NZCU Coaches Conference at Elite Cheer NZ Gym, 50 Rimu St, Strandon, New Plymouth on May 21 st & 22nd. We are excited to bring to New Zealand our key presenter, the world renowned Kenny Feeley from Spring Tumbling! On Saturday May 21st we will be hosting our annual NZCU Regional Meeting and an evening reception, where you will have the opportunity to meet with the event staff and mingle with coaches and program directors. In addition, we will be hearing from keynote speaker, Kenny Feeley. You will also have the opportunity to book in for USASF Hands-on Coach Credentialing throughout the course of the weekend (details enclosed). The conference classes and workshop sessions will provide a unique opportunity to learn new skills, grow and develop your program; learn from some of the most talented and accomplished coaches, instructors and professionals; and to network with other like-minded people from within our cheer community. We hope that you will take advantage of every opportunity and will also be able to catch up with Coaches from all over New Zealand! We hope you will join us for a weekend of fun, inspiration and education, it s going to be awesome! 1

2 Meet the Presenters We have an amazing group of talented, experienced and accomplished speakers who will be conducting sessions throughout the weekend! Below is a short summary of their experience and background! Kenny Feeley Kenny Feeley began his cheerleading career at Madison High School in San Diego, California under the direction of the legendary choreographer Ray Jasper. Kenny also cheered at the 12 time World Champion Gym Tyme All- Stars, a competitive all-star cheerleading gym affiliated with the University of Louisville and its coaches. Kenny then moved to Greenville, South Carolina to work for Spirit Sports, A Varsity Brand that is the World's largest cheerleading and dance event producer. He was the National Director of Speed Camps - an instructional cheerleading company owned by his Collegiate Head Coach James Speed. Kenny was also the Assistant Coach and the Clemson University Cheerleading Program. He took them to 2nd place at Collegiate Nationals (2nd to Louisville his Alma mater) and was active in their game day coaching at the incredible Death Valley (Clemson Football stadium that seats over 90,000 fans) Kenny is a coach of the 5x World Champion Team Canada Coed Elite National team. They are based in Orleans, Ontario and also own and operate Twist: Canada's Cheerleading Magazine. Kenny is fully immersed in the spirit industry and has spent the last 7 years building a worldwide reputation of excellence, and achievement. Kenny is also the developer of F.A.S.T - Fundamental Ability Stunt Test. Angie Williams Angie is an OSHbox Health & Safety Consultant. OSHbox has a particular set of values that attracted Angie Williams to join the business - the commitment to providing an above and beyond service to clients was important, as was the focus on looking outside the square and finding solutions for businesses that work well beyond the capabilities of a generic system. Angie will be addressing Health and Safety as it applies to Cheerleading in New Zealand. 2

6 USASF Coach Credentialing Program Eligibility: Candidates must be 16 years old at the time of testing to gain Level 1 and 2 credentials and 18 years and over to be eligible for Levels 3-5. Credentialing Steps: STEP ONE: TESTING INSTRUCTIONS AND FORMS Select the appropriate Testing Instructions and Form to view/complete: Cheer Coach Credentialing Form - 1st Time Cheer Coach Credentialing Form - Recredentialing Cheer Coach Credentialing Form - Renewal Download, complete all applicable fields (preferably using Adobe Acrobat), print and be sure all areas requiring a signature are signed. PLEASE IGNORE THE PAYMENT SECTION AS THIS APPLIES TO USA COACHES ONLY. Bring the Practical Field Experience Form (PFE) to your hands-on session. NOTE: All candidates participating in first time credentialing (Levels 1-5) are required to provide documentation and verify that they qualify for credentialing in that skill set and level. Levels 1 and 2: No form required. This is the entry level for all star cheer. Levels 3, 4 and 5: The gym owner must sign the corresponding section(s) for a coach to be credentialed at these levels. Each section of the PFE form must signed for each skill set(s) in which coaches are testing for credentials. STEP TWO: ONLINE TEST Locate the links for the online (written) test in the forms in Step One above Coaches must pass the test with an 80% or better to be eligible for the next step in the credentialing process. You can take up to 4 times before it will lock you out. Once the test is completed, print the certificate(s) from the testing site verifying your successful completion of the online test. Bring the CERTFICATE(S) from the online test to your hands-on session. NOTE: Coaches who are in the RENEWAL phase of the credentialing process will scan and their certificate along with the other required paperwork to selena@nzcu.org. Follow the instructions found on the RENEWAL application in step one above, for submitting your online test results. STEP THREE: HANDS-ON / ORAL TESTING During the Hands-On portion of credentialing process, the credentialing candidate will demonstrate their understanding of and ability to teach certain skills within each level. Coaches will neither have to perform these skills nor will they be working with athletes during the testing. Coaches will, however, have to explain to a credentialing instructor how to perform each skill just as if they were coaching a team. The instructor will have a list of key points that a coach must cover in order to pass that skill and or level. Coaches do not have to cover the key points word for word as listed on the instructors paper. The instructor s job is to validate that the credentialing candidate, in their own words, covered the key points of each skill in order to teach proper technique and ensure that they possess the knowledge and effectively communicate their ability to keep the athletes safe. Credentialing is progressive. You must begin at level 1 and complete that level successfully before moving on to level 2 and so on through level 5. 6

7 Maintaining Valid Credentials: NZCU Coaches Conference Credentials are valid for three years. Coaches must re-credential when their credentials expire at the end of the three year term. Coaches who initially credential at Levels 1-4 may test to the next level at any time during the three-year period during which their credentials are valid. Expiration dates will extend an additional three years as each level is successfully completed. Cost: 1st Time Credentialing Recredentialing Renewal Building: $50 per level Building: $125 Building: $90 Tumbling: $30 per level Tumbling: $75 Tumbling: $75 Required: Online Test, PFE Form & Hands-on Test Required: Online Test & Handson Test Required: Online Test USASF General Membership & Benefits: The USASF General Membership & benefits do not apply to International coaches. Insurance: The USASF credentialing does not include Professional Indemnity Insurance, therefore coaches are advised to seek their own insurance. 7
