2 Welcome to the 14th JAPAN DAY Harumasa Murayama Chairman of Japanese Society of Auckland Thank you everyone for taking the time to come along today! It gives me and my Japanese friends great joy to see the increasing interest that this community is showing in Japanese culture. Auckland is a vibrant melting pot of nationalities and cultures. The flow-on benefits for the community include an increased selection of international food, a variety of cultural events and, more importantly, a greater understanding between the different cultures. For those of you who regularly attend the Japan Day events, you will know that we have traditionally held the annual event at the ASB Showgrounds. This year, we felt it was time for a change. Our decision to hold the event at the Cloud and Shed 10 shows, in part, our recognition of the trending acceptance of and interest in Japanese culture by the general public. We wanted to bring the event to the heart of the city - a convenient and lively place which is accessible to all. Today s Japan Day event is our 14th Annual Event and, as always, we are excited to share the wonderful selection of food, workshops, cultural displays and performances with you. However, it is your participation that makes this event so special. For this, we would like to extend our heart-felt appreciation. We hope that you enjoy the festivities today!
