Write the software programs that you are using for this exam on your test packet. You have been assigned a Competitor Code on the front of your test packet. You will need to write your competitor code and your problem number on each document you wish to have graded. You will be identified only by your competitor code. Do NOT write your name or your school on any of your documents. This information may be keyed in a header or a footer. 2. You will have two hours to complete this test. Additional time will be allowed for general directions and warm-up. There is a good possibility that you may not complete every problem. Problems are weighted according to difficulty and may be completed in any order. At the completion of each problem, put your work in the test packet. Problem # Document Type Point Value 1 Newsletter 60 2 Flyer 20 3 Tickets You should have your own pens, pencils, dictionaries, or word-division manuals. You are not to borrow these items from others during the test. Keyboarding books and reference manuals are not allowed. 4. You must carefully proofread all your work because results are based on accuracy of printed copy. Two (2) or five (5) points will be deducted for each typographical error. A panel of judges for this event will evaluate your documents. All decisions of the judges are final. 5. After the test begins, no help may be given to you concerning the normal operation of the equipment. However, if your machine fails, call the proctor. 6. When you have completed the exam, you will need to turn in all of your materials, including the test, any printouts including those you do not wish judged. You should draw a line through any materials that you do not wish to have judged. 7. Remember that you will be required to complete the second portion of the competition, an objective test covering relevant theory, vocabulary, and application knowledge, during the Region Leadership Conference. This objective test will count for 15% of your final score. In the event of a tie, the order in which the student s test was turned in will be evaluated. 8. When you are finished, complete and sign the Participant Certification Form on the reverse side. DO NOT OPEN THE TEST UNTIL GIVEN PERMISSION TO DO SO.

3 2004 RLC Desktop Publishing Production Page 1 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Your local high school FBLA chapter has agreed to work with the local Community Center to sponsor a fundraising event to raise money for the March of Dimes. Your job is to create three publications, including a: 1. Newsletter you will design and print the first page only of a four page newsletter. The newsletter is mailed monthly to members of the community and this issue of the newsletter will contain information about the upcoming fundraiser, as well as additional information. Your final printout will be on one page, 8 ½ x 11, in portrait orientation. 2. Promotional Flyer the flyer promoting your event will be mailed to members of the community and all FBLA members, as well as posted on bulletin boards in local businesses. The flyer will be printed on one 8 ½ x 11 page in portrait orientation. 3. Event Tickets the tickets for the fundraising event will be 4.25 inches wide and 2.75 inches tall, so that 8 tickets can be printed on one 8 ½ x 11 page and then cut into individual tickets. Your final publication will be on 8 ½ x 11 page containing 8 tickets. Your publications may be printed in either color or black and white; either is equally acceptable. Use the information below to complete each project. Somewhere in your publications you must include, but are not limited to, the following elements: 3 or more appropriate graphics Lines and shapes Reverse text 2 or more typefaces Rotated text Your work will be graded on its usability did you meet the goals of the project, are you addressing the appropriate audience, and did you effectively synthesize the information. The creativity, originality, and appeal of your layout and effective use of graphics will be judged. You will be evaluated on your use of technical features, including appropriate font selection, effective text treatments (indents, bullets, paragraphs, text alignment, and text wrapping), and effective application of special effects (drop cap, shadowing, reverse type, mirror images, etc.), if utilized. GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION The event is a Halloween Skate-A-Thon entitled Skating for Babies which will raise money for the March of Dimes. There will be a costume contest for different age groups as well as additional door prizes for those who purchase tickets. You should create a graphic logo of some type to be used in all publications associated with the Skate-A-Thon (clipart may be used). Include the title Skating for Babies with the logo. Problem 1- Newsletter (60 points) Although your chapter is responsible for the entire 4-page newsletter for the purposes of this test, you will only have time to create and print Page 1 of the newsletter. (8 ½ x 11 portrait). Be creative in your layout of the newsletter. Use your own judgment regarding number of columns, location of elements, and types and sizes of typefaces. Demonstrate your creativity and desktop publishing skills to create a professional looking newsletter using the information provided below. Remember that the newsletter will contain community information in addition to your Skate-A-Thon event. Be sure to include some of the required elements listed above, including graphics for at least two articles. Include the logo you design for the Skate-A-Thon.
