1 Rising 4 th Graders 1. Read at least 5 books this summer. If you typically read longer books it is fine to mix in a shorter book or two. 2. Go to Spellingcity.com a few times a week to practice the third grade lists to maintain your spelling skills. 3. Work on multiplication facts to prepare for the fourth grade. These facts should be memorized for fourth grade material. 4. Write a paragraph each week. You can write in a journal, a diary, keep in touch with family members, or a friend by writing a letter. 5. One book report is assigned for a novel of your choice. See the attached instruction sheet, which is due August 29 th. 6. A Virginia State history project is assigned. 2 Wear Your Book on Your Sleeve Book Report Instructions Use a plain t-shirt to decorate following these requirements: Front of the shirt: Include the title, author of your book, and a small illustration YOUR NAME on the front collar of the shirt On the back of the shirt: Create 3 illustrations to represent the novel you read. In addition, each illustration should be explained with a corresponding paragraph on paper. Each paragraph should explain the illustration, the connection to the book, and why you chose it. Please make sure you put your name on your paragraph and that it is either typed or written in cursive. Due: August 29 th, 2018 for your first reading grade! Note: If you cannot get a shirt, please create the front and back of your shirt on a poster cut out to look like a shirt.

3 Historical Places In fourth grade, we will learn all about the history of Virginia. There are many historical places all around the Arlington area! Your job is to explore one of these great places! After exploring, you will make a Google Slide presentation to present to your classmates during the second week of school. Be sure to include the following: Slide 1: Title with your name Slide 2: Location of your historical place Slide 3: Why is this location considered historical? Slide 4: Why did you choose this place? Slide 5: 4 fun facts Be sure to include pictures of your visit to the historical site! If you are not able to access your school Google account, please create these slides on 5 pieces of blank paper or Powerpoint.
