Moments with the Marlborough Dukes! Two teams form Marlborough compete at state championships! The Marlborough Destination Imagination Team recently competed in the regional tournament. They scored second place overall and first place in the Instant Challenge! The team now advances to the NH State Finals Competition to be held in Bedford on April 7th! Mr. Clauss Project Edventure Seaperch afterschool club joined other regional teams at the YMCA to test their underwater robots in various obstacles. Mr. Clauss, Mrs. Ashworth and the students will compete at the state competition April 13th at UNH. Good Luck Teams!!!
The Destination Imagination Team completed a community service project where they brought the town tree lighting ceremony to the elderly who were not able to attend the original ceremony. The team then created a performance during which they explained what they had done for their project. They transformed a television box into a giant book where the pages came alive through the use of puppetry!
Adventures with Seaperch!
In December Marlborough middle school students participated in a poster contest in conjunction with the NH Plastic Pollution Alliance. In conjunction with chemistry, ecology, and environmental science curriculum units, some students viewed documentaries about plastic pollution and recycling, while others engaged in labs to separate mixtures of recyclable materials in a landfill. We also had a student guest speaker who had started his own non-profit initiative to reduce plastic drinking straw use. All middle school students had an opportunity to enter a poster in the NHPPA poster contest, sending their conservation message out to the community. Eight student posters from Marlborough were among those selected for this year's contest. Congratulations to: Grethe Thurmond Tucker Wallace Chloe Archambault Natalie LeClair Abigal Switzer Elijah Sheehan Hannah Shepard Chris Birnie The selected posters will be on display at the Keene Library this month. There will be a reception Saturday, April 7 at 2pm to celebrate the contest winners. Many thanks to Marge Shepardson for bringing these great opportunities to our school!
Life In The Computer Room Eighth grade has been working on a graphing unit, surveying middle school students about Common Teen Characteristics. Seventh grade has been gathering stock market prices for the data tables they created, and sixth grade is getting ready for a night time constellation talk. Mr. Clauss has been studying astronomy with the class and Mrs. Beaudin has just wrapped up a mythology unit with these students. The time has been perfect to research some of the myths behind the constellations. Fifth and fourth grade classes have been working on word processing skills along with keyboarding while the third graders continue to create using Google Sketch Up. Second graders have been using Google maps to explore their neighborhoods and the first graders have been watching the world with WebCams; including the Decorah Eagles and the just hatched eaglets. And, lastly but not leastly, Kindergarteners continue to work on their mouse skills with links off our web page (mlb.sau29.org).
Grade 3 enjoys learning YOGA!

Excitement form Grade 1! Here are some pictures from our week with Mr. Hightower learning about white tailed deer! We learned all about deer, made clay deer sculptures, went on a hike to look for signs of deer and made a model of a deer yard. We had so much fun!

Our eighth graders have completed the reading of Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer. As one of the culminating projects, they worked in groups to select scenes from the novel for a script-writing project. The students then performed their scenes for the seventh grade as a way to introduce the novel. After the performances, the two classes discussed the content of the plot, as well as the genre of satire.

Marlborough Families! The 8th Grade class is having a fundraiser at Chipotle in Keene on April 17th from 5-9pm. 50% of proceeds sold that day will be going to us for end of the year festivities and a class gift. You can support us by going to Chipotle and bringing in a flyer which will be going home the Friday before (4/13), and can also be found in the office and is attached to this . You can also show them the flyer on your phone or tell them you would like your purchase to be donated to the Marlborough 8th Grade. Unfortunately, online orders will not count toward our fundraiser, so we encourage you to stop in to purchase your meals. Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you there! The 8th Grade
