From there we moved into the Christmas Holidays with installation of the giving tree and collection of food for VIP Special Family Christmas Dinners and accumulation of gifts. The Auxiliary hosted installation of a Christmas Tree and a cookie social at the Veterans Home in Retsil. You the members of North Mason Eagles 4226, both Aerie and Auxiliary, should be very proud of the accomplishments of our organization. As long as we are all working together we can accomplish great things and that has been proven. Congratulations and thank you to all. Were making some changes to our operating hours and activities throughout the Aerie. Specifically Breakfast hours have moved to 0900 start with a noon finish. We will open at 0900 on Tuesday s for Cribbage and Biscuits and Gravy. You don t necessarily need to participate in the Cribbage to enjoy. Be sure to look at the posters and noted time changes throughout the newsletter. Don t forget that we have updated the website and it is actively being maintained. You can always refer to the website for the newsletter and calendar information. Thank you members and Happy New year.

My Blessing to all in I was sorry to miss December 11th and 12th meetings but warmer weather was calling me! Whew, the holidays are always so busy aren t they? Planning, decorating, shopping and then all of a sudden, sadly, it s all over! It is so good to gather with family and friends though; I hope you had a toast to cheer for me. Then, we must (or the neighbors will joke about us being ready for Christmas 2018) take down the decorations, pack and store them - - humm, that sounds like work! I m for leaving them up! Besides they are pretty. Just joking if we did that it would be just plain boring. Truly, Marlene And just a tidbit about those beautiful, wonderful, fabulous (secret Santa s) (the Barstool Bingo ladies), they did it again. They honored Santa with a check (to fill in those gaps) for the Christmas and VIP Family shopping. May this Santa wish you extra hugs and kisses for your unselfishness. I was able to stumble through our State Madam President s visit, (I m not excited about public speaking), but I need to tell our Aerie how much appreciated it was for their volunteer help. North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 January/February 2018 Page 3 Grandma s Rhubarb Pie with Vi s Never Fail Pie Crust Make the crust ahead of time. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Ingredients for the Pie Crust: In large bowl Mix: 4 cups flour 1 tbsp sugar 2 tsp salt 1 ¾ cups shortening (I use Crisco Butter Flavored) Mix dry ingredients and cut shortening in with fork or pastry

3 North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 January/February 2018 Page 3 Grandma s Rhubarb Pie with Vi s Never Fail Pie Crust Make the crust ahead of time. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days. Its best to work the crust cold. When you re ready, fill with your favorite filling. Grandma s Rhubarb pie filling is highly recommended. Ingredients for the Pie Crust: In large bowl Mix: 4 cups flour 1 tbsp sugar 2 tsp salt 1 ¾ cups shortening (I use Crisco Butter Flavored) Mix dry ingredients and cut shortening in with fork or pastry knife In separate bowl mix: ½ cup water 1 egg 1 tbsp lemon juice Directions: 1. Make a well in dry mix. 2. Put wet mixture into well and mix with fork until moistened. 3. Form into ball with hands. 4. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes. 5. Roll dough out with rolling pin to desired size and follow direction on pie recipe. Note: I roll the crust out between two sheets of plastic wrap instead of with flour on a board and it works great. Makes putting in pans so much easier. Less cleanup, too. Will keep in refrigerator for up to three days. Ingredients for Rhubarb Pie Filling : 4 cups rhubarb 1 cup sugar 2 Tbls butter 2 Tbls flour Directions for Rubarb Pie Filling: 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). 2. Combine sugar and flour. Sprinkle 1/4 of it over pastry in pie plate. 3. Heap rhubarb over this mixture. Sprinkle with remaining sugar and flour. 4. Dot with small pieces of butter. Cover with top crust. 5. Place pie on lowest rack in oven. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue baking for 40 to 45 minutes. 6. Serve warm or cold.

Not unexpectedly North Mason Eagles was again noted for the ability to provide an enjoyable lunch as well as our famous dinners. Watch for the time changes to our lunches and breakfasts. We are also modifying our meal line-up. Steak Dinner has been replaced by International Night which will feature a different meal each month. In addition, Prime Rib Dinner will move to the last Friday of the month and International Night will be the second Tuesday for each month. Don t forget about the changes to our start time for breakfast! Page 4

Nomination and Election of Officers Due to the timing of nominations and elections of officers, it seems to get very little attention. We need individuals to fill positions that require attendance twice a month. We received notice from Grand that we are lacking in the number of officers. You as members need to step up support our organizations. It is a strong and healthy organization that has done a lot of good this past year. We supported 5 families for Thanksgiving and Christmas including full meals, gifts and extras to help minimize costs. In addition we have provided over $ in donations to local and worthwhile causes. A lot of time people don t know or understand our organization due to lack of effort on their part. Participation is key to knowing and understanding An onion can make people cry but there has never been a vegetable invented to make them laugh. ~ Will Rogers All reports are in. Life is now officially unfair. The first rule of holes: If you are in one, stop digging. Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.

We have a large outdoor Beer Garden, a covered entryway and breezeway. There is RV parking for up to 7 days (longer requires approval of the Trustees) in the lower lot with 30 Amp electrical and water (RV parking is free for Aerie approved events). Membership dues are due at the end of May and must be paid by June 30th starting in If you don t pay your dues you will loose the tracking for the number of years you have been a member. During the last Eagles year June 2016 through December 2017 we have donated over $9,000 dollars to local, state and national charities. Check the website for detailsthe majority of this money was donated to activities benefitting our local community. The fund raising is through the hard work of volunteers you see working behind the scenes. The actions, parties, meals and events all raise funds for programs supported by the North Mason Eagles. Many new members join to give back to the community but fail to understand its s through the special events that we raise the funds. More can be done but we are limited by the number of people willing to be involved.
