KINGSTON COVE YACHT CLUB November 2014 Commodore: Butch Brown Vice Commodore: Steven Young Rear Commodore: Tony Clark Fleet Captain: Shelly Kester Secretary: Diana Kingsley Treasurer: Tom Pickens Trustee: Dave Lucas Trustee: Dan Schoenfeld Past Commodore: Alan Kester Like us on Facebook at Kingston Cove Yacht Club Please send all messages regarding the newsletter and calendar to: Calendar of Events KCYC Fishing Derby: November 1 November 8: Planning 1500 Times for Our Events BOD Meeting: 3rd Tuesday of each 1800 General Meeting: 3rd Thursday of each month. Club opens at 1800 Pot Luck at 1845 Meeting at 1900 Board Meetings: Tuesday before General Meeting at 1800 Commodore's Report With the coming of fall, we have had our annual Change of Watch at KCYC. I am honored and excited to serve as your Commodore for the coming year. First, I want to thank last year s board for all their hard work. I am looking forward to a great year with the support of our new board of directors. We have assembled a committee to develop a survey to get input from our membership on what we can do to improve your KCYC experience. You probably have an or letter from us by now, so if you have not completed and returned the survey, please do so as soon as possible. Jack Lott has developed this survey with input from the committee and will collect and collate the information for use by the board. We need all surveys returned by or before Nov. 5 th. The Survey Committee consists of Nancy Langwith, Jerry Kirschner, Jack and Robin Lott, Cheryl Graham, Cheryl Callais, Steve Young and me. Thank you all! This year is starting off fast. Plan on attending the KCYC Halloween party on October 31. Kim Clark and Adela Lucas will be co-hosting. The next day, Nov.1 is the KCYC Fishing Derby. Jeff Kutz and committee are running the derby this year and we are looking for a large turnout. On Nov. 8 th we will hold the annual Event Planning Meeting at the club from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. We will discuss events, cruises and schedules for the year. Come and contribute your ideas and help map out our year. We hope to have preliminary survey results by this meeting so we can work your responses into the plans for the year. It is our goal to revitalize and make KCYC a place all members are comfortable coming to. Please contact me if you have any questions or ideas you d like to discuss personally. Last, I want to thank Alan and Shelly Kester for the Commodore s Ball. We had a great dinner and Ball. Anyone not attending missed a wonderful event. Thank You All!! See you at the club! Butch Brown Commodore butch.brown83@gmail.com
Vice Commodore's Report From the Vice: Your Club is looking good! It is all painted and cleaned up for the long winter ahead. We had the carpets cl They were really in need! We are close to getting the ovens re-calibrated. Parts are coming in from the ma Your Board and a small group led by Nancy Langwith and Jack Lott have been working on a survey for all bers. We want to determine what would make the Club more inviting to our members and hence, what wou it more inviting to new members!! Please take the time to invest in our future. It may take a little effort on yo Lets remember to give thanks to all the volunteers that make the Club run!! Don t forget to put New Years Eve on your calendar. We are in the planning process. We have the The Blues Counselors booked and have a really great menu planned. We are going to keep the price as reasonable as possible. So, don t be left out. More to come later!! Vice Commodore Steve Young
Rear Commodore s Report Day 1: My first day on the job didn't go so well. I completely dropped the ball on getting the money/ keys over to the club so we could open the bar on Friday night. Thankfully, I have good backup which any boater knows is important on and off the water. And on a positive note my wonderful wife, Kim, was able to inventory the bar supplies and it appears Butch has left us pretty well stocked. We've laid in some extra supplies and I foresee smooth sailing ahead. By the time you read this the 2014 Halloween party will have become a night to remember. I hope you were a part of it. And speaking of parties we are beginning to get our party plans together. If you aren't able to be a part of the November 8th party planning session I would encourage you to get your ideas for events and activities into the board as soon as possible. For those of you who are interested in helping behind the bar you will need a current MAST permit. You can find out more about that here: If there is enough interest we could hold a class at the club and get everyone trained and tested together. Let me know if you are interested in getting or renewing your MAST permit and volunteering behind the bar. I am very honored and excited to be a member of the board of KCYC and look forward to working hard to make the club a fun place to hang out and socialize with your friends. I welcome feedback on how we can make the bar better. If you have suggestions on wine, drinks, snacks or anything at all please let me know. Sincerely, RCTC waclark57@comcast.net Fleet Captain's Report As the wind gusted and the rain pelleted our house on the night of October 25, I was thankful that the KCYC Cruise to Pleasant Harbor had been cancelled for that weekend. Our next event is the Holiday boat lighting which is scheduled for December 6th. This will be held at the Port of Kingston guest dock and will be part of the Port of Kingston Christmas event. Starting around 2 pm, we will gather on the guest deck for warm drinks while we decorate our boats. If you don't have a boat, come on down and enjoy the warm drinks and watch the boats get decorated. Or jump in and help decorate. This is a fun event for everyone. The Christmas tree in the Park will be lit around 5 pm. We will turn on our lights at the same time. Following the lighting, weather permitting, we will take a short lighted boat cruise towards Jefferson Head and back. After we return from the cruise, we will head up to the club to warm up and enjoy our traditional chili cook off. Please bring your best chili to share. Boaters, do not forget to call the Port of Kingston to reserve your spot on the dock for the Holiday festivities. Fleet Captain Shelly Kester
NEW MEMBERS: Brent Stinnett and Donna McKamey have submitted application for membership to the Wardroom for consideration and acceptance! From Janice Kutz: I wanted to give a "Shout Out" to Tom Chambers for (finally) replacing the light bulbs burned out in our beautiful stained glass light fixtures hanging about the bar. These are very old and very priceless to our Yacht Club. These were donated by Frank DeBoer back in the 60's when Frank and the "boys" started our Kingston Cove Yacht Club. Actually if you talk to our Past Commodore, Pete DeBoer, you will hear quite and adventurous story behind these two "stained glass" art pieces... In 1995, when the old yacht club was demolished, these stained glass pieces were moved over to our new yacht club. Our Past Commodore, Dorothy Pearson's husband, Carl Pearson, and Past Commodore George McFarlane, personally refurbished and cleaned up these huge stained glass pieces and built them into Solid Oak Shadow Box Frames - and then on top of that, added the lights! They are certainly an awesome addition to the character of our neat Yacht Club. So the next time you look up at the lights, you will know how they got there!! :) Cheers! Janice Kutz - KCYC member for 30 Years! Yeah KCYC!
Sunshine and Clouds for November 2014 Well those gorgeous days of summer are gone.and now we enter Bigfoot Season in Vampireland! Hopefully most folks health this month will be as beautiful as the leaves falling from the trees! We seem to be doing well.much more sunshine than clouds when it comes to sickness and health. Just a couple of items to report that I know of..get Well Wishes go to Marilyn Kutz after a fall. She is steadily getting better. And also to MaryAnn who broke her wrist while racing on a Segway down the Interstate in Houston, Texas.just kidding..she wasn t really on the Interstate.LOL! Hoping her wrist heals super fast! God Bless Everyone in the club, their families and friends. If you know of someone who needs prayer, a card to encourage getting well or a note of sympathy..i m your girl. Call me at (360) and leave a message. Or kingstoncoveyachtclub@yahoo.com to let me know the situation. Calypso Carol Wetmore P.S.- Thanks Rodger for editing the newsletter. It is appreciated!!!
