We kicked it off with 7 of our clubs boats all rafted up off the guest dock of Queen City Yacht Club. Thanks to David, Tom, and Pete s years of nautical electrical engineering, a few drinks, and a few more of us novice engineers we managed to connect power to all 7 boats. Thanks to QCYC and Seattle City Light we managed to not overload the circuits and dim the lights of the 520 bridge. We then all went up to the QCYC for lunch and closed out the night with dancing to a band at there club. What a great time!! The following morning we participated in the Opening Day ceremonies at Seattle Yacht Club then Jovita and I boarded a beautiful 90 yacht for viewing of the crew races and boat parade. We then met fellow members enjoying cocktails on the deck at SYC on a perfect afternoon. After some dingy cruising and dinner that night that concluded a picture perfect opening day!! I would like to thank all that attended especially these vessels for cruising there: Linda Lou, Shine, Jolly Mon, No Remorse, Sounder, High Life, and our own SeaDuction. The Mothers Day luncheon was a great success as we had a full house and raised over $700 for the club not including the bar profits. Thanks to my wife Jovita, Lynn Hyman, Janice Kutz, Jan Erikson, Pearl Sobata, Shelly Kester, and Rear Commodore Alan for making this another success!! The Kingston Opener was great with 12 boats in our parade. We had perfect weather and wonderful company. I think we all had a little too much fun as we were all pretty tuckered out by the time we ate a wonderful fiesta dinner put on by Vice Commodore Don and crew. A combination of full bellies, sun, fresh air, and cocktails made learning how to Salsa dance somewhat of a challenge(at least for me). At the May General Meeting we inducted new member Tom Heberlien to KCYC. Please help welcome Tom to the club. He is anxious to get involved with all our activities. The membership also voted to donate $ to the Kingston 4 th of July Committee to help towards the fireworks. Our clubhouse will be hosting the annual Kingston 4 th of July fireworks fundraiser on June 22 to also bring in guests to help them out in there efforts. Contact Pete Deboer for more details. Hope to see you all there!! Our June meeting will be family night where we will provide burgers and dogs. I challenge you all to have the largest turnout to a general meeting ever!! Tell we Sea again!! Todd Lachelt, Commodore

2 Page 2 Vice Commodores Report Greetings from The Vice As most of you know I have returned from Lake Havasu AZ. The weather ranged from 60 to 105 degrees the water was only up to about 72, the locals thought it was too cold still and that 80 was the magic number for swimming. I had the opportunity to visit 2 Yacht Clubs while in town one of the clubs was a little too stuffy. The other club did not have a clubhouse but what a boat they had! Their vessel was a 60+ ft. houseboat they kept at the local marina. Every Friday at 5pm they open up for happy hour and a BBQ on the houseboat. At 6pm they cast off (weather permitting) and go for a cruise. If any of you are in town they are a very friendly group and I would say to look them up. For those of you who attended The Opening Day Fiesta Dinner/Dance we had a lot of fun! I hope that there were no deaths due to the food. We made money on the event and it could not have been possible without all the help from decorating to clean-up. THANKS TO ALL! As far as General Club Info, our rentals our up this year. I can not say enough about our new rental mgr., Katherine Klint. It makes such a difference to have a paid, professional manager. We have a few important events coming up which is our road/clubhouse cleaning project. For those who do not want to hit the road they can work at the club for a good deep cleaning. Another one is our club auction and BBQ coming up soon. Try to bring in some quality items to donate for the auction. This has always been a very fun event! I wish to thank all of those who carried my load while I was gone and a special thanks to Butch Brown for the GREAT job he is doing as our new Treasurer. Don Sparkman, Vice Commodore Rear Commodore Report Greetings from the Rear Commodore: As I reflect back over this past month, I can hardly believe June is right around the corner and the boating season is in full swing. Admiral Shelly and I enjoyed attending the Opening Day of boating in Seattle, Opening day of boating in Kingston, and Viking Fest in Poulsbo. I am happy to say that after passing through the locks, Shelly and I are still happily married. I heard that the cruise to Port Townsend was very successful and I am sorry to have missed it. Thanks to the following members who tended bar last month.; Shannon English, Jan & Pearl, Shelly Kester, Denise Harrington, Carol Wetmore, Cheryl (lots of tips) Calais, and Jan & Will. The Rear appreciates the time and commitment you have to the club. News from the Spirit Locker: Once again, I encourage all members that do not have their bartending license to please take the course online and sign up to bartend. Bartending is fun and an excellent way to get to know all of the club members. You may have noticed that it is usually the same few always stepping up to volunteer. As the summer months approach, the bar will be getting busier and we need more volunteers to tend the bar. On-line bartending license course: Drink recipe of the Month: Here is a great easy to make drink created by my brother-in-law, William Linton. This summer cocktail can be easily enjoyed on your yacht or at your house. Pomatini Fill cocktail shaker with Ice Add: ¾ oz orange curacao (or triple sec) 1 ½ oz vodka Pomegranate lemonade Shake well Pour into tall glass Garnish with a twist of lemon Any damn fool can navigate the world sober. It takes a really good sailor to do it drunk." - Sir Francis Chichester Alan Kester, Rear Commodore

3 Sunshine and Clouds By Carol Wetmore Page 3 We have been super fortunate with much more sunshine than clouds lately. I think Tom finally brought us back some sun from Arizona. And luckily it lasted through Memorial Day Weekend! Nancy Langwith is recovering from her bout of pneumonia. And Tom is recovering from the removal of a melanoma. Things are looking UP! Remember if you know of anyone who needs cheering up from an illness or a death in the family, don t hesitate to let me know. You can me at: kingstoncoveyachtclub@yahoo.com or call home at (360) and leave a message. We want our yacht club family to know that we care and are there for them! Call Greg for info 8/31-9/3 Bremerton Labor Day Cruise Contact Greg Ahoy on-shore from The Fleet Captain! What a fantastic Cruise to Point Hudson. Great weather, great water, great friends, great food and great participation. A special thanks to my wife Sandy for all her help. I didn't really need it until Sunday but I let her help me anyway. A great big heart felt thank you to Bobby Lee, Todd and David Kutz. for making the auction such a success. As you might have witnessed someone had to help me...i had a great time too. Hope it didn't show, I'm kidda reserved. My liver is taking a rest until Bell Street Harbor. Tom Pickens again took the lead to be sure a group of us found a quality meal up -town. Fine dining is always a priority with this crowd. Janice and Sandy sold raffle tickets to be sure Fleet Captain s Bar could be re-stocked. We had a lot of laughter together. It was a great blend of the boaters and members who know boaters. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The auction itself appears to have raised over $700. The items you all donated made the difference. As soon as my blood tests are signed off by my doctor...let s do this again. I need to turn in Bremerton Cruise roster for Labor Day right after our Bell Street Harbor criuse. I know Butch and Sallie are coming but are you bringing a boat this time? Ha Ha Ha... I over heated on the way home so I understand, always more repairs to do. Sandy and I are still cruising to Victoria Aug 2-7th. Victoria "Splash" should be on your bucket list...it's a big event! First come first berth'd for dock space. I know a couple of you are thinking about it. There are Hotels up there too. We will try to get a spot right in front of the Symphony for Sunday night. Bring a chair over. Wishing you calm water, safe and dry cruising! Greg Sarvis, Fleet Captain

6 Curiosity Killed The Cow by Tom Davies Did the inquisitiveness of the cow cause it to wander into the Puget Sound without its water wings or was it presented to the village of Kingston as was the horse presented as a gift to Troy. A local Kingstonite was quoted as saying Most places get a seal or whale, we get a cow. One restaurant owner was anxiously awaiting the cow to be devoured in a crab pot so he could serve surf and turf in one bite, but the possibility of mad crab disease might exist and that s no bull. So before one could say Hereford Harbor or Bovine Bay a squadron of Navy Seals attacked the quadruped but failed to destroy it. The final decision was made to commandeer a nuclear sub from Bangor, however Appletree Cove is much too shallow so a bill is now before the house to dredge the bay. Meanwhile thousands of onlookers are flocking to Kingston to observe the prime rib capital of the world where the motto is How now brown cow It certainly is nice to be back in Kingston where the temperatures are 40 degrees cooler and the gas is 40 cents higher. The trees are greener and the eagles and pheasants and blue jays are flying. The boaters are boating, the r-ve-ers are r- veing and the stay at homes are staying home weeding and cutting and drinking margaritas on their decks. Please don t give yourself a haircut after three margaritas. Bar-b-que time never place your gas grill beneath a hummingbird feeder unless you want to marinate your meat in sugar water. And don t fall asleep on a lounge underneath the feeder since birds of a feather flock together and might mistake you for a litter box. If you re traveling abroad this summer, take a look at your passport. If you look like the picture you definitely need a trip. Don t just stay at home in a rut--remember the difference between a grave and a rut is the depth. Don t forget some people are working backstage, some are playing in the orchestra, some are on stage singing, some are in the audience as critics and some are there to applaud. Know who and where you are at all times. IF YOU CAN SMILE WHEN THINGS GO WRONG\ YOU HAVE SOMEONE IN MIND TO BLAME
