Jennifer Jobe, President As we look across the Royal Oaks Golf Course throughout the day you can t help but notice the grounds crew working diligently to get the course in pristine condition for the 2018 season. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to play this outstanding course. On that note, Welcome to the 2018 Ladies Night season! Your Committee is very pleased to kick off the season with their annual newsletter titled Tap In which captures the highlights of what to expect this year. We hope you enjoy it. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Laraine Arsenault for sharing her valuable expertise and time to design our newsletter again this year! Tuesday Ladies Night is open to the public and all are welcome with tee times available between 4:30pm and 6pm. If you are hearing about Ladies Night for the first time and would like more information, or require help joining a group please contact Sylvia at sjanssen@nbnet.nb.ca. Event Highlights Sylvette our Captain, has once again organized ladies Match Play. Please see her article on page 3 for details and registration. Check out our bulletin board, located in the ladies locker room. It will be advertising tournaments and other golf news. Dave DeAdder is offering golf clinics again for the 2018 season with a couple of new clinic categories. Please see page 5 for details. Last year s scramble was a huge success and plans are underway for this year. The tentative scheduled date is August 14th; mark your calendars and don t miss this fun event. Message from Russ WRuss Howard, Director of Golf ELCOME BACK LADIES We ve been very busy making changes and we are excited to tell you what is NEW this season at Royal Oaks. You will notice many cosmetic décor changes including NEW Lighting, Flooring, and Painting throughout the building. We can t wait for you to try our NEW Menu prepared by our NEW Executive Chef. We are also excited to announce that our Pro Shop is now stocked with NEW Lines of brand name clothing complete with our Royal Oaks Logo. The best selection is available for you now at very competitive prices. Don t miss our Fashion Show on May 29 and whistle at Dave DeAdder as he sashays down the runway. Our focus this season is entirely on you: Our Customer. We have increased our staff, added additional POS terminals, and added more tee times for our members. Proceeds from the 50/50 will support fun contests, events and a donation to a local charity at the end of the golf season. 50/50 tickets will be available at the Pro Shop when you check in for your round. 3 Match Play 2018 Sylvette Deveau After a very successful ladies match play tournament last season, we are excited to announce our 2nd Annual Ladies Match Play for There will be limited spots available at a cost of $20 (non-members must pay green fees). Our target to begin Match Play is mid-june and we will communicate the exact date once the registration is complete. The format is simple! We will conduct a random draw to see who plays who in the first round. The winner of that match will move on to face one of the winners of another match. This format will continue until two players remain for the final match, whereby one will be crowned the winner of the match play. Scoring is simple! Each hole is a separate contest and is scored as one up if you win, one down if you lose, and if you tie, you are all-square. You win the match when you are up more holes than there are left to play. Note: To ensure a fair playing field handicaps will be used to calculate strokes awarded. This is a great opportunity for you to meet and play with new people while having fun in this friendly competition. Sylvia Janssen We are pleased to offer a Ladies' Match play between Royal Oaks and Kingswood this year. Dates: Wednesday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Kingswood Golf Course (Rain date is June 27th). Wednesday, Sept. 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Royal Oaks Golf Course (Rain date is Sept. 19th). Cost: At Kingswood - $65.00 plus tax (includes cart) At Royal Oaks - $65.00 plus tax (includes cart) Plus an additional $5.00 each for rangs. The single best (not tied) score per hole wins the rang. It s like a skins game. Example: 8 teams of 2 on the course. The team with the lowest (not tied) score on any hole wins a rang. Say the pot is $80 (16 people x $5) and there are 4 rangs, then 4 teams of two get $20. Further details will be provided to those who participate. Remember, it s meant to be fun! Format - 2 person team net best ball match play. Two ladies from Royal Oaks are paired with 2 ladies from Kingswood. Handicaps are taken into consideration so you must have a handicap. Stroke holes are assigned by handicap and are calculated off the lowest handicap. Example: of the 4 people in the match, one is a 20 handicap, 2 are 22 handicap, one is 24; the 22 handicappers each get a stroke on the 2 hardest holes and the 24 handicap get a stroke on the 4 hardest holes. Teams get a point for a win and a half of a point for a tie for their match. Then you add all the points up to see who won - Royal Oaks or Kingswood. You are playing for a club win versus an individual or team win. A trophy will reside at the winning club for the year. A dinner special will be offered at each golf course at the end of the round. 4 Featured Recipe Chicken and Mango Quesadilla appetizer Luc Castilloux PREP TIME: 20 minutes INGREDIENTS 1 green pepper (diced) 1 red pepper (diced) 1 red onion (diced) 1 TBSP chopped garlic 6 chicken breast (cooked and diced) 2 fresh mangoes (peeled and diced) 1 cup mango puree 1 cup chopped cilantro 60 ml chopped pickled jalapeno salt and pepper to taste DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 375 F and bake chicken breast for 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 F. Cool and dice. 2. Saute peppers, onions and garlic for 5 minutes then add the pickled jalapenos, diced mangoes, and mango puree. 3. Add the chicken, season with salt and pepper to taste, simmer for 5 minutes, then cool. 4. Add the chopped cilantro and mix. 5. To build the quesadilla place a light handfull of mozza onto half of a 12'' flour tortilla and spread out approximately 1 cup of the chicken and mango mix and another light handfull of mozza. 6. Carefully place the quesadilla in a medium pre heated skillet or flat top and cook until golden brown on both sides. Garnish with guacamole, sour cream, and diced tomatoes. Enjoy! Featured Cocktail Lemon Meringue Martini Matt Trites 3/4 oz Vanilla Vodka 3/4 oz Grand Marnier 1 1/2 oz lemon juice (lemonade or lemon bar mix) Shake on ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lemon wedge. 4

5 Tip from our Pro Dave DeAdder Head Professional Every golfer has that one or two holes where they want to hit the ball a little extra further off the tee. What they normally do is grip the club tighter, lock the feet to the ground, grit their teeth, and swing as hard as they can. The result, their shot ends up a lot shorter and with no accuracy. What you want to do is the complete opposite. You want to loosen up. Take a deep breathe. Relax your arms and legs. Then slow down your backswing and let it go with a full follow through. Think of it like flinging elastics. Which kind can you fling the furthest? Golf Clinics Dave DeAdder will be offering Beginner as well as Intermediate clinics for the 2018 golf season. Both clinics are one hour in duration and will be available on a weekly basis. Dave will focus on putting, chipping, pitching, sand shots and full swing. Cost for 6 sessions is $120. The Beginner Clinic is designed for those starting out in the first year and want to learn the basic fundamentals of the game. These clinics are offered weekly at 5:45 pm on Wednesdays beginning June 6th or Thursdays beginning June 7th. Intermediate golf clinics are designed for those who know the basics and are now looking to improve and enhance their game. These clinics are offered weekly on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm or 7:00 pm beginning June 6th or Thursdays beginning June 7th at 7:00 pm. New this year is Playing Lessons. Gather your group of 3-4 golfers and Dave will join you while you play the first 5 holes in a scramble style format. Playing lessons are a valuable option as they reinforce and help you apply the skills you have learned in the playing environment. During the lesson you will also work on the strategy of the game. Cost is $25 per person and can be booked Monday thru Thursday after 1 pm. 6 Pace of Play Sylvette Deveau Pace of play is an important issue for everyone in golf and often the slow players don't realize how they impact others. Please follow this guideline for maintaining the pace of play: Look to the group in front of you (not behind you). Your place is behind them. Here are some tips to play more efficiently: Plan your next shot while walking to your ball. When 2 people are sharing a cart, drop one off at her ball while the other moves the cart to hers. Be attentive. Don't wait until someone needs to tell you that you are away. If you have to ask if it's your turn, you probably should have already hit. Limit practice swings. Update your score at the next tee box, not at the green. Always stage golf bags or carts off the area around the green and positioned toward the next tee. Help your partners. Help others find lost balls. Watch others hit and watch the ball flight to help find balls quickly. Don't spend more than 5 minutes looking for a lost ball. Play "Ready Golf." Take a golf club with you when looking for a ball so that you can hit right away. Being mindful of these simple tips will help with pace of play and make the game of golf much more enjoyable for yourself and others. Giving Back Giving back to various non-profit organizations in our surrounding communities through fundraising has been a long time tradition adopted by the ladies who participate in our Tuesday Ladies' Golf. Betty Holt In 2017 our ladies committee made the decision to focus on the needs of our youth. We thank you for your fundraising support, and generous contributions which provided the opportunity to make a donation of $150 to the Louis Melanson s Elite Junior Golf Program, and a $500 donation to the Moncton High School Breakfast and Hot Meal Program. Once again we would like to extend an invitation to our members and nonmembers to present nominations for charity recipients for our 2018 season. The requirements are as follows: It must be a local charity or group that serves our surrounding community. You must provide background and the importance of the charity. Provide contact information of administrators or directors of the program. Please send your nomination in writing to Betty Holt at holtb185@gmail.com no later than June 15, The chosen recipient will be announced and presented at our closing banquet. 6
