1 Chillicothe Sportsmen s Club Sight Picture October 2014 Happy Columbus Day Annual Meeting And Election Of Officers: Please attend the November 11 th meeting at 6:30 in the clubhouse. We will be electing a new president and new board members for We would like your input. As a corporation we are required by law to hold an annual meeting for our members. We will also be voting on changes to the club bylaws. If you would like to run for a club office please contact Charlie Brassch at See you then. Proposed by laws change: No class 3 firearms allowed unless authorized by the board. Each use/event must be approved by the board. The use of near full auto devices (example:

2 slidefire, bumpfire, tapcon trigger, et.al) is not allowed due to safety issues (07/2014). New Members: Christopher Collison, Gary Spadin, Chris Smith We welcome you to your club, and hope you enjoy your activities on the grounds. From Our Treasurer: Have you got your work hours in? Every event and activity can use more help. Almost all of our events and activities are put on/kept going by a very small number of people. You can cut the cost of being a member by working your work hours at an event. Work Hour Opportunities/Work Parties: Outdoor Work Party: The next work party will be on October 4, 2014 at 8:00Am. We will be cleaning up trash and fallen tree limbs on all ranges. Bring rakes, shovels, and chain saws. We will need screw guns, saws, and hammers to make target frames. Contact Steve Schneckenburger at or for more information. This is a good way to get your work hours in for the year. Indoor Work Party: October 11, We will be cleaning the indoor range. Cal Bob Bjerke at Raffles: The raffle opportunity to win a 1903 A4 Springfield rifle is ongoing. 150 tickets will be sold at $20 each. Call Chris Bach or Bob Griffith (only a few tickets left). Look for the table at the fall gun show.

3 6th Annual Nick Flagg Memorial Pancake Breakfast The Nick Flagg Memorial Pancake Breakfast will once again be put on by Troop 69 of Lacon at our Clubhouse. Nick Flagg was a youth who lived and worked in Chillicothe whom was also an Eagle Scout from Troop 91. Nick and his father become very active with Troop 69 and helped our Lacon Troop grow into the troop it is today. Nick passed away in September, 2008 from an aortic aneurism shortly after coming back from a summer camp outing in northern Wisconsin. Nick loved scouting and wanted to help youth grow in their scouting experience by helping in many of the activities especially camping. Nick s favorite meal was breakfast and his favorite breakfast was pancakes. For Chillicothe residents, you probably saw or knew Nick because he worked at our local Kroger s as a bagboy and cart return worker. Nick was always willing to chat about his favorite subjects with anyone who inquired. We all miss Nick and take pleasure in helping with this pancake breakfast because all funds from this meal go to help send scouts to summer camp something Nick himself loved doing. This year s breakfast will be on Sunday, October 5th from 7am to 1pm. Come on out and enjoy an all you can eat pancake, sausage, coffee, milk, and juice breakfast. Tickets can be purchased at the door. To the board members and volunteers at Chillicothe Sportsmen s Club: Small actions can have profound consequences. In 2006, my son attended the youth shooting weekend as part of his Boy Scout Troop, 333. At the time, Nash was 12 and admittedly was too young for the weekend, but I think my knowing many of the members involved and being an NRA instructor myself, he was allowed to attend. At each station, Nash s abilities, and his small size combined to catch the attention of the volunteers. At nearly every station I was told you need to get this kid involved in this discipline. At the dinner that Saturday night, I even had one guy corner me and talk to me about When Nash is in the Olympics My thoughts were, one, this guy is nuts, and two, Nash likes this and it seems to give him something to call his own. You see, Nash wasn t a normal kind of sports kid. So the conversation with Nash went something like, Of all the things you got to do today, If you pick one, we will research it and figure out how to get into it so that you can compete. Nash chose Highpower Rifle. Fast forward to Nash is 20, an Eagle scout, in college studying to become a machinist, and has been competing since the fall of 2006 earning his High Master classification in Highpower, and the Distinguished Rifleman badge along the way was a special summer for Nash. At Camp Perry he won the USMC Junior Clinic, was top junior in the President s 100 Rifle Match finishing 6 th overall, out of over 1250 adult, military and junior competitors, and was Top Junior in the NRA National Highpower Rifle Championships. Nash stayed at Camp Perry after the CMP and NRA HP championships so he

4 could compete in the NRA Long Range Championships. Even though he d only competed in one match at 1000 yards before arriving at Camp Perry, Nash was able to finish 4 th in the Junior rankings and about top 25% overall. Not bad considering he was shooting in the Palma rifle class throughout all matches using a box stock Savage Model 12 Palma. His placing in the long range matches lead to his being selected as a member of the US National U 25 Rifle team, known internationally as the Young Eagles. Nash was recently told that he will be on the team representing the US the World Long Range Championships next summer. Not the Olympics, but it is as close as you can get in highpower. Maybe I m the one who was nuts back in 2006 for not seeing what other saw. We moved away from Illinois two years ago when my company needed me to move to Connecticut. We still miss Illinois and all of our shooting friends. Fortunately, gun folks are good everywhere in the country. Thanks for your work with youths. Do not ever question whether your efforts make a difference. The Nash Neubauer is proof your efforts can and do make a huge difference. Special thanks to: Chris Bach for being Nash s coach that very first time behind an AR 15, Steve Schneckenburger for running the CMP matches in Nash s early years and for giving Nash some correction when his attitude needed adjusted, and Ross Baer for his guidance and mentoring in smallbore and highpower.
