3 Summer Programs June 13 - July 22, 2011 All clinics are free & offer an opportunity for all participants to improve their skills and techniques. *Please fill out the following and mail back this portion to the Parks and Recreation Dept. at 201 W. Poplar Street, Sidney, Ohio or drop off in person to Parks & Recreation Dept., 415 S. Vandemark Road, Sidney, Ohio. 4 2011 Stories In The Parks Hosted by: Sidney Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Amos Memorial Library. Youngsters will enjoy the Stories in the Park program, which is offered by the Children s Department of Amos Memorial Library. This well-liked series will be offered each Tuesday from June 7th - July 19th at 11:00 a.m. Included in the minute session will be stories and some group activities. No registration is necessary. The program schedule is as follows: June 7th June 14th June 21st June 28th July 5th July 12th July 19th Green Tree Park Riverbend Park Berger Park Harmon Park Sherman park Deam Park Chief O Leary Park If inclement weather occurs. 5 Clinics Tennis: Instructors: Pippi Booth June 13, 14, 15, 16 (with June 17 as rain date) at Lehman Catholic High School Tennis Courts Learn, improve, be competitive. For beginners, intermediate and advanced. Open to all students going into 7th, 8th or 9th grades. Need to pre-register by May 27, th Grade 9-10 am 8th Grade am 9th Grade 11 am-12 noon Hiking: Instructors: Parks and Recreation Dept. June 20 - July 20 - Monday s & Wednesday s only 9-10 am Meet at the Geib Pavilion at Tawawa Park Hike and walk the trails at Tawawa Park. Grades 3-8 Biking: BIKE - Bicycling Inspires Kids Environmentally Instructors: Parks and Recreation Dept. June 21 - July 21 Tuesday s & Thursday s only 9-10 am Meet at Graceland Cemetery at the Canal Feeder Trail and we will Bike the canal. Be sure to bring your bikes and your bike helmets (required) Grades: 3-8 Arts & Crafts: Instructors: Parks & Recreation Dept. June 17 - July 15 Friday s Only 9-10 am The program schedule is as follows: June 17 Brown Park June 24 Green Tree Park July 15 Berger Park Learn to make a new craft project each week. 6 Fishing Derby: Instructor: Parks & Recreation Dept. July 8 at Tawawa Lake in Tawawa Park 9:00 am Check-in 9:15 am Derby Begins 10:00 am Derby Ends K-8 Participants should bring their own fishing tackle, pole, bait and bucket. Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1. Most Fish; 2. Biggest Fish; 3. Smallest Fish; Must Pre-register by July 1st, Trailing Moms and Tots Program: Instructors: Parks & Recreation Dept. May 16 - June 8 Monday s & Wednesday s only a.m. at Geib Pavilion in Tawawa Park For mothers, expectant moms and tots 0-5 years old, unite to socialize, play and exercise during this walk. Please dress for the weather. Pre-register for the program by jrogers@sidneyoh.com or call our office at Please register one week prior to this session starting. Soccer Clinic Instructors: Cayleb Paulino June 13 - June 16 at Landrum soccer fields K-3 1:30-2:30 pm 4-6 2:30-3:30 pm This clinic will offer soccer drills, ball handling and team approach. Cayleb has played soccer at Sidney High School as well as at the college level at Wilmington College. He comes to us with a lot of experience and motivation. Please bring your own water bottles. Must pre-register by June 10, Basketball Clinic: Instructors: Kim Replogle June at Humphrey Park K-3 1:30-2:30 pm 4-6 2:30-3:30 pm This clinic will offer the basic basketball drills, ball handling and how to shoot a basketball. Kim has played high school basketball at Houston and currently is playing collage basketball at Wittenberg University. Kim will bring a lot of skills and enthusiasm to the court. Bring your own drinking water. Must pre-register by June 17, Pool Games, Events & Fun: Instructors: Parks & Recreation Dept. July 22 at Sidney Municipal Pool 9:30-10:30 am We will offer relay races, balloon toss and biggest splash contest. Come and have a great morning at the pool. 7 Checking Out The Creek: Instructor: Lynda Adams with Soil & Water Conservation July 6th at Tawawa Park at the creek. Meet at Geib Pavilion. K-3 1:30-2:30 pm 4-8 2:30-3:30 pm Participants must wear tennis shoes or shoes that strap on their feet. NO FLIP FLOPS. Participants will be wading water and using nets to try and catch living organisms living in the water. Art In The Park Clinic: Instructor: Gateway Arts Council July 11, 12 & 13 at Custenborder Field Shelter Area K-8 1:30-3:30 pm Participants will make a new art project each day with the leaders from Gateway Arts Council. Baton Clinic Instructor: Peggy Risk June 27 & 29 at Deam Park K-3 Grade 1:00-2: Grade 2:00-3:00 Beginner s baton twirling classes. Peggy brings to this clinic a lot of experience and enthusiasm. Batons will be furnished for this clinic. Movie Day: Movie Day at the Senior Center at 304 S. West Avenue June 10, July 1 & Aug. 5 K-8 8:30-10:30 am Popcorn will be served, just bring your own drink. A rated G to PG movie will be shown those days. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the moving with their children Summer Lunch Program The City of Sidney Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a food service program this summer under the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Summer Food Service Program for Children. We will operate this food service program at the following sites: Brown Park 100 W. Clay St. 11:00-11:30 am Alpha Community Center 330 E. Court St. 11:45 am-12:15 pm Green Tree Park 800 6th Avenue 12:00-12:30 pm Berger Park 800 S. Miami Ave. 11:45 am-12:15 pm Humphrey Park 600 Buckeye Ave. 11:00-11:30 am At each site we will serve lunch Monday through Friday. All programs will operate from June 13, 2011 through August 19, Hot meals are prepared daily by Wilson Memorial Hospital Summer Recreation Program ~ Page 7

8 Sidney Municipal Pool Pool opens June 4, 2011 and closes August 21, 2011 June 4 - August 21...M-F 1:00-7:00 p.m. Sat - Sun. Hours (all season)... 1:00-7:00 p.m. The pool is available for private pool rental. Please call to schedule.
