1 EAGLE NEWS October 21, 2016 NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL West Deptford Homecoming: West Deptford Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 6:30pm 10:30pm to be held in the HS gymnasium. Tickets sales have ended. Homecoming SPIRIT WEEK is here!! Please remember that this is an exciting week for students as we prepare for the homecoming dance next Saturday. We have many exciting activities planned throughout the week. I do ask and remind our students that appropriate school dress is expected and masks and/or completely covered face paintings are not permitted. HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK AGENDA: Monday (10/24) Tuesday (10/25) Wednesday (10/26) Thursday (10/27) Friday (10/28) College/Sports Shirt Day Twin Day DECADES DAY (Choose your favorite decade) CLASS COLOR DAY 9 th YELLOW 10 th ORANGE 11 th PURPLE 12 th BLUE GREEN AND WHITE DAY PEP RALLY FOR STUDENTS Spirit points are awarded during homeroom for each student who participates in each theme day. We will be collecting canned goods and each can is a spirit point as well! The class with the most points at the end of the week will be awarded the coveted spirit trophy at our homecoming pep rally! Come join us as we kick off Homecoming Weekend starting Friday, October 28 2:06pm with our WDHS FIELD HOCKEY GR. II PLAYOFF GAME 2:00pm at home! The crowning of our WDHS Homecoming Queen will take place at halftime during our Homecoming Football Game against 7pm on October 28 th as well!! If there is any way that we can help you support the education of our students, please let us know. Thank you in advance for all that you do to make our school great! STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS: Dr. Gismondi The student council, in conjunction with our Key Club, will be collecting canned goods and other non perishable items at our Homecoming football game, Friday, October 28 th! Students will be at the gate to take your donations. Thank you!!!
2 GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT REMINDERS: RCGC will be here next Tuesday, October 25 th to meet with seniors who are considering applying to attend once they graduate high school. Seniors MUST sign up to attend this presentation and can do so on Naviance or in the Guidance Dept. Seniors applying to Rutgers are reminded that the Priority Deadline is November 1 st. Both the application and the SRAR (Self Report of Academic Information) MUST be completed by this date. Seniors should update their Naviance accounts as they submit any college applications so that Guidance can send their school documents. Juniors: Counselors will present a college / career planning workshop to all 11 th grade students in their English and History classes in early December. Stay tuned for more information! Juniors who wish to learn about various colleges should sign up to attend the presentations by colleges and trade school programs who are visiting WDHS this fall. Log into Naviance to see the list and to sign up! All Students: The end of the marking period (Nov. 4 th ) is fast approaching! Please be sure to complete all assignments and study for tests and quizzes. MESSAGE FROM WDHS PTO: This year our Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the High School Cafeteria/Gymnasium. In the past, we have always accepted food donations for this event. This year we are requesting either a $5 donation in lieu of food donations or, if you would still prefer to make a food donation, to sign up via the "Sign Up Genius" link below to do so. It is our hope that this will be easier for families and for us to keep track of which food to order/delivery. Any donations will be accepted and much appreciated. We will accept cash or check (checks made out to West Deptford PTO). Donations can be sent to the High School Main Office in an envelope addressed to the PTO. Residents and Key Clubbers played Bingo and visited with the patients in the Alzheimer s and Dementia unit. The following students shared their time with the elderly: Sarah Nicole Cabello, Julie Egresitz, Liana Egresitz, Taylor Fanslau, Gabrielle Friel, Alexis Hill, Robin Hill, Madison Kelly, Hunter Marple, Dante Paterna, Hannah Pfifer, Mariaya Smith, Vincent Tate, and Kayla Zanole.
3 Key Club is having a Homecoming Food Drive benefiting the Colonial Manor Food Pantry. Students can earn points for their class during Spirit Week (October 24 28th) by bringing in non perishable food items to their homerooms. Food donations also will be collected at the homecoming football game on Friday, October 28th. Most needed items are peanut butter, jelly, cereal, oatmeal, instant stuffing and potatoes, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and fruit, soup and stews, pasta, rice, dessert mixes, and pasta sauces. Thank you for your generosity. ATHLETIC NEWS: CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CLASS OF 2016 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES! Matt Moore Kevin Wittmeyer Jason Wood Meghan McGlinchey Wrestling Team The annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Sunday November 20 th at 1:30 pm at Riverwinds Restaurant. To purchase tickets contact the West Deptford High School Athletic Department. ATTENTION WINTER STUDENT ATHLETES! The winter season is quickly approaching. Be sure to complete all necessary paperwork as soon as possible. You can pick this up in the WDHS Athletics Office or visit our Athletics webpage. CLASS OF 2019 WANTS YOU! Show off your amazing lip syncing abilities at the FIRST (in many years) LIP SYNC CONTEST! If you are interested in participating, individually or in a group, see Mrs. Patton or Miss Stetson by November 4 th. GSA NEWS: West Deptford Safe Space will be raising funds to travel to the GSA Forum in November by selling trick or treat bags after school the week of 10/24. Please consider buying a bag of treats to support the West Deptford Safe Space in their travels! NHS NEWS: The National Honor Society held a Blood Drive on October 17th, 69 units were donated. Each unit of blood saves approximately 3 lives!
4 WEST DEPTFORD HS MARCHING BAND NEWS: The WDMB is currently the highest scoring band in the entire Tournament of Bands Association. This past Sunday's score of ranks them #1 out of 199 HS marching bands! There are only 2 competitive performances left! Tournament of Bands, SJ REGION Championships 10/23 Eastern Regional High School, Voorhees, NJ Tournament of Bands, Atlantic Coast Championships 10/30 Hershey Park Stadium, Hershey, PA Come out and support your #1 ranked West Deptford Marching Band! WDMB performs at 2:30pm this Sunday at Eastern Regional High School. Tickets are available from Mr. Kershaw. Adults $15, Students/Senior Citizens $10 CBI s Tour of WD Municipal Building Students received a tour of the West Deptford Municipal Building. They were able to try on the judge s robe and a bullet proof vest. Also they sat at the bench in the court room. Students learned all that our municipal employees do to run our township successfully. They were each given a environmental friendly bag filled with items made from recyclable material.
5 CBI students toured Greenfields Veterinarian. They learned all about the high tech procedures they do in order to keep our pets healthy. RENAISSANCE CLUB NEWS: SAVE THE DATE! The Renaissance Club is hosting their first Car and Truck Show! It will be held on Saturday, May 20, If you are interested in showing a car or truck, or if you are interested in being a vendor at our Car and Truck Show please fill out one of the attached forms and send them in to the attention of either Mrs. Falcone or Mrs. Pence. All spots (car/truck as well as vendors) are $15. The Renaissance Club appreciates your ongoing support! We hope to see everyone there! Chick fil A Calendars on Sale NOW!! These are sold on a first come, first served basis and are only available until the beginning of December (if they last!) so get yours now! Support Renaissance Club and Eagle Athletics! The Renaissance Club will be selling Chick fil a sandwiches (for $4) at the Girls soccer game on Monday, 10/24 at 7pm, at West Deptford Park and honor our Seniors! Come out and support our Eagles and enjoy a great dinner! We will also be selling the same, legendary, Chick fil a sandwiches after school every Wednesday after school! Same price, only $4!
