The play begins as a group of hard working villagers and neighboring forest creatures hails the arrival of the troubadour. The troubadour begins a tale, which magically transports the village back in time. The story comes to life as the UES actors take on the roles of wizards and knights. The play continues with forest creatures teaching Cabal lessons about curiosity, Merlin and his apprentice wizards training Arthur to be king, and a group of bandits living in Sherwood Forest showing Kay a thing or two about fairness. A tournament and festival carry the story to its end when Arthur draws the sword from the stone and is crowned King. The final production will be held here at UES TONIGHT, March 8th at 7:00 PM. Admission to the event will be $2 for students, $4 for adults or $10 for a family. The monies received from admissions will help support future programs supported by the PTC. The CSA residency at Union Elementary School was funded this year through the William Pullen Fund, which was a one-time grant from the Town of Union. Union Elementary School would like to thank the following folks for all their hard work to make this production possible: All UES staff members with a special thank you to Sue Jones, Dave Dostie, Richard Blackman, Allison Davis, and Nancy Pike as the accompanist, PTC volunteers including Myrna Soule, Michelle LaFrance, Lauri Naum, and Laurie McDaniels, all of the sponsors of the playbill including local businesses and individuals, and finally to Rowan Tree Farm for housing the actors! Courtney Lynn Pierchoski and Ben Regan have been amazing directing our actors! Please join us this evening for the final performance of this wonderful show!!

Locking of Building The inside foyer doors are now locked from 9:00 AM- 2:30 PM. Please ring the doorbell to gain entrance. To enter the building, an adult will need to open the door for you. Any visitors to the Central Office will need to enter the building through their entrance, which is next to the upper playground. Thank you! Week 1: Eat 5 or more fruits and vegetables Great Job UES Kids and Families! All eight classes have done a great job with our week one theme. The kick off assembly last Friday was a great success, thanks to parents Sherrie Clark and Knox County Let s Go coordinator Adrienne Gallant. Applause goes to Gr. 6 students, with lead actor Ashton Daniels, who put on a skit about choosing healthy foods for more energy. We especially thank mom Shannon Kenney-Calderwood, who provided fruit for every child to take with them at the end of the assembly. Thanks to ALL parents for their support and for sending in healthy food for snacks. Next Week: 2 hours or less recreational screen time Next week s theme presents a real challenge for all of us, especially at this time of year: limiting screen time to two hours or less per day. Screen time includes the use of T.V. and DVD s, computer use not related to school, video games, and other small screen devices. The idea is to try some other unplugged activities each day next week, like playing games, exercising, reading, or something new! Handouts with ideas for alternate activities will be sent home Monday. Students in Gr. 3-6 will be keeping their own logs of screen time for the week and learn guidelines for safe and positive use of the screens which have become such an important part of our lives today. We hope families will join in this effort and take on this challenge. Bonus: next week is only 4-day school week -there s high hopes we can all succeed!

5 Baseball News Attention all baseball, softball and T-ball parents, coaches, volunteers and anyone else interested, you are invited to attend an informational meeting about the creation of Medomak Valley Little League on March 18, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Medomak Middle School Cafeteria. League Changes for Knox Suburban and Waldoboro Little League During the off-season, volunteers involved with baseball and softball in the Towns of Waldoboro, Friendship, Warren, Union and Washington have been meeting to develop a new league for the upcoming season. This season, these five towns will be playing within a league that will become Medomak Valley Little League in This means that teams from what has been known as Knox Suburban Little League (Union, Washington and Warren) will play in a schedule with Waldoboro Little League (Friendship and Waldoboro) teams. This includes both the major league and minor league divisions. This change will allow for the towns in the former Knox Suburban Little League to keep their current town based teams and for Waldoboro Little League to keep the existing teams while playing in a schedule with other children within the RSU/MSAD 40 school district. This will also change how all-star (tournament) teams are selected resulting in more all-star teams and (hopefully) more competitive all-star teams. New League Website Waldoboro Little League in conjunction with the youth baseball and softball programs in Union, Warren and Washington, recently launched a new website that will keep parents, managers, coaches, volunteers and players informed. Check it out at: Upcoming Soccer Opportunity On either the weekend of June 8-9, June 15-16, or June the Pen Bay Soccer Club will be holding tryouts for Pen Bay South soccer teams which is comprised of kids living in the Medomak Valley High School and Oceanside High School communities. Pen Bay South teams will compete against teams from around the state who are part of Soccer Maine. The actual season does not start until much later in the summer but Soccer Maine requires early registration for organizational purposes. Patrick Mellor will follow up with another notice to area schools to let us know exactly when and where the tryouts will take place. Pen Bay South hopes to create a total of ten teams: boys and girls U10 (eight and nine year old kids), U11 (ten year old kids), U12 (eleven year old kids), U13 (twelve year old kids) and U14 (thirteen year old kids). There s no question that participation in this program and Soccer Maine will improve all of our school soccer programs. We have gifted athletes and hard working kids in our communities who we can help to become exceptional soccer players. Let s do that! The Pen Bay Soccer Club is Midcoast Maine s travel team. Its mission is to challenge players to enhance their soccer skills, leadership qualities, and team awareness in a positive environment. Sportsmanship is promoted at all times through respect for opponents, officials, teammates and supporters. Call Patrick Mellor at with any questions.
