1 The tax cycle begins with the Supervisor of Assessments who places the valuations on all properties within Tazewell County. The Assessor then submits the abstract of valuations to the office of Local Government Affairs in Springfield. This office issues a multiplier to the County which gives the County Clerk the authorization to start the job of determining the tax dollar. The County Clerk extends the taxes based on valuations and levies supplied by all the taxing districts, some include overlapping Counties. After the taxes have been extended, the tax books are printed and given to the County Treasurer. The Treasurer is then responsible for printing and mailing the tax statements. The next process is the collection of tax monies and the distribution of same to the various taxing districts. This book has been printed to aid anyone involved with taxes to be fully informed of the various rates within Tazewell County. Any questions pertaining to any part of the above cycle should be referred to the offices listed below. In order to obtain the extended dollars for each taxing district, divide the valuation by 100 then multiply by the rate for that particular taxing district. County Clerk/Recorder... Christie A.
