9 Royals requires a large time commitment and it is important that you understand the requirements before you decide to join the team. Please review the attached calendar carefully and discuss it with your family. During the school year, we will practice mornings from 6:00-8:00AM OR 6:30-8:00AM depending on the school day. During football season we will have band practice Friday mornings. You should anticipate practicing on some evening and Saturdays in the spring for contest and spring show but you will get plenty of notice about these practices. Football games are usually held on Friday nights. (SOMETIMES they are on Thursday). During basketball season, the team performs at select home basketball games. However, it depends each year. Basketball games are on Tuesday or Friday nights. Royal activities will be held to a minimum on the weekends. You should expect one a month. All Royal practices and meetings are mandatory. Summer line camp/summer team practices are mandatory. All Royal members (including managers) are expected to participate in these rehearsals. This is the time that the team learns all football routines, pep rally routines, as well as team bonding. It is crucial that you are present for these events.

13 Independence Royals Merit / Demerit System Guidelines Purpose: In order to be a productive and successful team, it is necessary that each team member be responsible to uphold a discipline system and code of conduct. The purpose of the merit / demerit system is to enhance our organization in a positive way by holding each team member accountable for team rules, policies and procedures. The merit / demerit system will be enforced at all times. Each team member is responsible for knowing, understanding and following the system. The Director is the person who will issue merits and demerits, but the officers will assist the Director in recording them. Merits and demerits will start being recorded once the new team is selected and will start over on the first day of school in the second semester. Merit System Guidelines: The merit system is designed to reward members for positive behavior. Opportunities to earn merits will be provided throughout the year by the Director. 1 merit will cancel out 1 demerit if merit is earned prior to receiving the demerit. Demerit System Guidelines: The demerit system is designed to hold members accountable for team rules, policies and procedures. Demerits may be cancelled out by earning merits. When receiving a demerit the member will have to complete 100 high kicks for each demerit as a form of cardiovascular rehabilitation. If a member accumulates 5 demerits she will be pulled from one performance at the director s discretion, parents will be notified and the parent and student will sign a written notice. Probation Guidelines: A member will be considered for three-week probation if she accumulates 10 demerits. The parents will be notified, a conference will be held with the parent and student, a written notice will be signed by the parent and student and the student will be benched from two performances. Removal from Independence Royals: A member will be considered for dismissal of the team if she accumulates 15 demerits, even if no removal from performances or probationary period has occurred. If a member is removed from the team, she will not be eligible to try out again unless she has permission from the director and principal. Drill Team Grade: The grade for drill team class will be determined by how many merits and demerits each member earns. A demerit is equal to 1 point taken off of the final six weeks grade. Example: If a member has 3 demerits, she will earn a 97 for the six weeks.

14 Independence Royals Merit / Demerit Compliance Form I am aware that as a member of the Independence Royals, my daughter (student name) will be required to adhere to the Independence merit / demerit system. I have read and understand the merit / demerit system guidelines and agree to support the system. I realize that upon the accumulation of her 15 th demerit, my daughter will be removed from the drill team and no refunds will be given.
