1 CHRONICLE Vol. XXXIII No. 7 August 7, 2015 Discover the Spirit! The Ranch was filled with amazing performances this week! The Broadway Productions Club presented You re a Good Man Charlie Brown on Tuesday afternoon. Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, and the entire Peanuts crew took the stage. The scenery was beautiful and the costumes looked fabulous as the cast belted out familiar musical numbers Snoopy, My Blanket and Me, and Suppertime. After working diligently for six weeks, campers shared their talents and passion for singing and acting with fellow campers and family members who joined us for the fun. Congratulations to all who participated - your commitment and hard work are inspiring! Campers and counselors were Home on The Ranch Thursday! Overalls, cowboy hats and boots, plaid shirts, and pigtail braids were just a few fun ways everyone expressed their Western style. The Big Top barn doors swung open where Pardners were led in square dancing and line dancing to the music and direction of Farmer Ed! His original songs, Coleman Country Barn Dance, and My Home Away From Home (CCDC), were played along with old-time Country favorites Cotton-Eye Joe and Achy Breaky Heart. Once campers finished their final dance moves, everyone picked their very own fresh apples from the barnyard barrels. In addition to the Big Top Barnyard Bash, campers had a great time with Kan Jam, potato sack races, corn hole, and inflatable ring toss among other lawn games on the soccer field. Digging for hidden gold treasures was also part of this special day! Country-style sloppy joes, tater tots, green beans, and sliced peaches atop the red and white checkered lunch table tops made for a delicious lunch on this spectacular day! Special events included duck and frog hunting at boating, lassoing at Martial Arts, and animal poses at Yoga. Pioneers and Scouts climbed aboard a hayride around the Outback with tour guide, Leo. Cooking featured scrumptuous farm-styled treats - blueberry graham cracker parfaits for groups and homestyle biscuits for club! Howdy Pardners! TURN UP THE LIGHTS... Broadway Productions took to the stage on Tuesday for a performance of You re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Cast members proudly wore their show shirts, a great piece of memorabilia as a reminder of their rise to fame on Broadway! ELECTRIC EXTRAVAGANZA...Girls from the Explorer division were shakin and groovin under the Big Top today during the Explorer Extravaganza show. Enroll Now for Summer 2016 Early Enrollment Savings Enroll by August 21 st HOEDOWN, SHOWDOWN...Farmer Ed at Home on The Ranch led campers in square dancing and line dancing to familiar as well as original tunes at the Barnyard Bash!
2 PIONEERS We re All Ears! The Pioneers have really been sharing their happy camper love all around. When seeing Pioneers travel around camp, their smiles and excitement for camp have shown to be contagious to all around them! Thank you Pioneers for your H.E.R.O. spirit and for lighting up everyone else s day! A special guest reader joined the Pioneers on Tuesday. Mrs. G. gathered with campers in the Pioneer Station Chuckwagon to share Cloud s Best Worst Day Ever by Amy Novesky. This special book is one of many from the Kimochis curriculum that introduces children to social and emotional learning. Kimochi means feeling in Japanese. In the story, Cloud teaches the children to find courage to apologize for any wrongdoings, and it s okay to be mad but not mean! Thank you Cloud for sharing your personal story to help us learn and understand those feelings! In addition to Cloud, Pioneers are also familiar with H.E.R.O. Cat who shares different feelings each week during line-up. We are all looking forward to the exciting Pioneer Lovefest next Monday and the Pioneer Show performance next Thursday! SCOUTS In The House All the action was at the Coliseum (soccer fields) on Monday with the Scout campers competing in their Mini Murals! This tournament is an introduction to Intramurals, providing campers with intra-group opportunities to hone their skills in both winning and losing, which begins at camp in 3rd grade. The competition was keen for three days in the single elimination games, with Supervisors Felicia and Ed on the sidelines calling the play-by-play action! The winning teams (groups) proudly accepted their championship certificates! Nothing Could Be FIner Than To Be A 49er! Oh Yeah EXPLORERS Boom Boom Pow Socks with smiley faces, stripes, and polka dots - shoes with velcro, mixed shoe laces, and light-ups - were just a few of the displayed mismatched socks and shoes that roamed The Ranch on Wednesday as Explorers dressed for crazy sock and mismatched shoe day! Friday was a big day for Explorers as they presented their amazing Extravaganza show! Campers dazzled the audience in fabulous costumes, accessorized with everything from sunglasses to pompoms! Always an eventful week, and nothing could be finer! Fortyniners in 5th grade spent their day on water rides at Splish Splash on Monday! On Tuesday, boys in 7th and 8th grades had a choice for a day of adventure, either Adventure Park or Adventureland. Girls in 7th and 8th grade had the same thrilling experience on Thursday. Whether campers chose to go on the aerial forest adventure or climbing and zip lining at Adventure Park, or they chose to embark on a journey of riding coasters and playing games at Adventureland, fun was had all around. While we have many traditions at Coleman Country, the 49ers faced off in the first ever Battle of the 49ers. Competing by grade level, Duke (5th grade), Wisconsin (6th grade), Syracuse (7th grade), and Michigan State (8th grade) battled it out for the ultimate prize - The Golden Bodie Trophy! The friendly rivalry kicked off in the morning with a swim race followed by crab soccer, volleyball, kickball, and rock climbing. After everyone fueled up at lunch, the games continued with an egg toss, shuttle run, alphabet game, shuttle run, Human Anagrams, and a Bucket Brigade. The competition culminated in a contest of cheers, songs, and dances. ON THE HORIZON Monday, August 10th: Great Adventure B7/8, G7/8 Parent Drop Off 6:30 a.m. Parent Pick Up 10 p.m. 3rd Grade Coleman After Dark Drop Off 6:45 p.m. Pick Up 8:45 p.m. Friday, August 14th: Boys Night Out B6/7/8 Parent Pick Up 11 p.m.

5 Battle Of The 49ers IN ALL THEIR GLORY...Ross bestowed the Golden Bodie Trophy to the 5th graders, representing Duke University, who were victorious in the Battle Of The 49ers. IT S NEVER DARK AT COLEMAN COUNTRY Families came back to The Ranch on Thursday night for their chance to experience life as a camper again! Many parents left their comfort zones when they soared over Hampton s Pond on the Ridge Rider zip line!
