1 Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 ANNUAL REPORT, ACCOUNTS and BALANCE SHEET End of an Era Farewell to David Goddard Premier XI from 2008/9, Captain from 2014/15. He scored 2363 runs, took 232 wickets and held 85 catches Ian Trott Head Coach, including Coach of Mens Premier XI, from 2007/8. ACA s Coach of the Year 2007/8 and 2014/15. Michael Ravlic Premier player from 2011/12 taking 315 wickets, including 85 in the 2012/13 Season - a Club all time record In this Era from 2007/8, Parnell CC s Mens Premier Grade XI won the: 2007/8 and 2010/11 Tom Hellaby Cup, Minor Tier Championship and promotion to Major Tier for 2008/9 and 2011/ /10 and 2012/13 Jeff Crowe Cup, Limited Overs Championship also Finalist 2010/11 and 2013/ /14, 2015/16 and 2016/17 Allan Thompson Memorial Trophy Runner-up in the Major 2 Day Championship 2014/15 Hedley Howarth Trophy - Two Day Major Championship And, on the recommendation of the Auckland Umpires, was awarded Auckland Cricket s 2009/10, 2012/13, 2014/15 and 2017/18 Spirit of Cricket Award (inaugural winner in 2009/10) 2015/16 and 2017/18 Grosvenor Cup the best all round Premier Grade team. 2 160 Years From 1857/58 to 2017/18 and to.. Mid March the Club celebrated it s 160 th Jubilee. A Past vs Present T20 was played on Friday,16 th March, followed by a BBQ. Next day, whilst our Premiers played Takapuna on Shore Road No. 1., a large number of past players, their families and well wishers gathered to celebrate the past and to look forward to the future. The Weekend was a great success, happy times recalled and huge thanks go to Wayne Wheeler for organising the Oldies! Spectators at the Past vs Present T20 Friday, 16 March The way forward a true Home Ground has eluded the Club all these years as this Timelime shows: Parnell s first game, vs Auckland, at Albert Barracks Parade Ground courtesy of the Military Parnell members clear scrub and drain swamp at Auckland Domain to form a cricket ground 1880s Parnell, and other clubs, are based at the Auckland Domain described by George Lankham, around 1890, as one of the loveliest cricket grounds in Australasia. 1920s Eden Park developed for cricket, Parnell moved there with several other clubs 1951 Parnell set up at Hobson Park, Market Road, Remuera as sub leasee of Auckland Hockey 1966 Parnell returned to Eden Park as Head Leasee wished to play Summer Hockey on Hobson Park 1984 Moved to Orakei Domain sharing facilities with Teachers Eastern Rugby and Achilles Bridge Clubs 2001 Moved to Shore Road Reserve on the invitation by Auckland City Council, to be the principal summer user of the newly reclaimed sports fields in Hobson Bay. This linked us back to our Juniors. Our Juniors were set up in 1948 at Thos Bloodworth Park as Remuera Parnell Sports Club and that club merged with PCC in The Future: after much discussion, the Club has decided that Thos. Bloodworth Park be our Premier Oval and application has been made to Auckland Council to bring their renovation plans for the Park forward and to give consent to Parnell CC to build a traditional style pavilion in the SE corner. Other sports/users will be accommodated but primarily this will be a cricket ground with a pavilion appropriate for cricket and, in particular, the oldest cricket club in New Zealand. Mark Chapman -on ODI debut for the black Caps - vs England at Hagley Oval, Christchurch 2. Mark at Eden Park ODI vs Australia unluckily dismissed by Stanlake when his helmet fell onto his wicket 3. Lockie at Cobham Oval, Whangarei, for the ODI vs West Indies, signing autographs for two Parnell lads. Mark Chapman, having hit 124* on ODI debut for Hong Kong vs United Arab Emirates, November 2015, was selected in February for the Black Caps T20I Tri Series vs Australia and England. He scored 16 and 8 against Australia and 37* vs England. Then Mark was called up to replace injured Ross Taylor for the ODIs vs England. Mark only scored 1,8 and 0 in the three games but further opportunities will surely come his way. Lockie Ferguson returned to the Black Caps in December and played in all three ODIs vs West Indies taking 5/90 (18 overs). Then four ODIs vs Pakistan (7/171 off 33 overs) and one vs England (1/48 off 8), an overall return of 59o 0m 309r 13w 23.77ave 5.24er. No IPL contract was offered this season but Lockie is now contracted to Derbyshire for their T20 campaign. 5.

7 AUCKLAND CRICKET AWARDS AUCKLAND MEN S BATSMAN OF THE YEAR MARK CHAPMAN Mark Chapman Mark was named Men s Batsman of the Year at Auckland Cricket s Cricketer of the Year Dinner beating Robbie O Donnell and Glenn Phillips, the other nominees. A highly deserved Award Mark had an outstanding season, his stats for Auckland being: Plunket Shield (1 st Class/4 Days) 13 inn. 0 no 386 runs 76 hs ave Ford Trophy (50 overs) * sr Burger King S/Smash (T20) AUCKLAND MEN S BOWLER OF THE YEAR Whilst our Lockie Ferguson was one of the four nominees it was Matt McEwan of Howick Pakuranga who received this accolade.heading off Lockie and the other nominees, Tarun Nethula and Ben Lister. Their respective stats for 2017/18 being: Plunket Shield Ford Trophy Burger King SS Total Matt McEwan o 53m 1034r 38w 27.21ave Lockie Ferguson Ben Lister Tarun Nethula And for the record Parnell, in addition to Mark and Lockie, had Ben Horne playing for the Aces. Ben had a sound season scoring 398 runs 71* highest score at He hit 3 x 50s and took 34 catches, most behind the stumps. In the Ford Trophy he scored 123 runs at and 87 at in the T20s. In all he took a most credible 40 catches and 2 stumpings in the 3 formats. SECONDARY SCHOOLS GIRLS PLAYERS PLAYER - LEXY BASSETT Auckland Cricket s Awards Dinner - Lexy is with Marijana Brajkovich, Parnell CC Life Member and ACA Board Member Lexy Bassett was chosen from 5 Girls 1 st XI players. An outstanding honour - nominations for this Award came from the schools Lexy being nominated by Baradene College of the Sacred Heart. Another Parnell player, Hetali Patel, was nominated by Diocesan School for Girls and the other nominees were Amie Hucker (Epsom Girls Grammar), Marama Downs (Pakuranga College) and Anna Browning (Takapuna Grammar). 8 SECONDARY SCHOOLS BOYS AWARD - No Parnell player was nominated but Luke Buxton, the son of our first Junior Coaching Co-ordinator Hamish Buxton, was nominated by Rosmini College. The winner was Luke Dasant of St Peters College. Luke Dasant plays for Cornwall CC, Central Districts CA and captained Auckland Under 17s. AUCKLAND CRICKET TRIBUTE TO TIM McINTOSH Tim McIntosh 1 st Class career 1998/ /14 Parnell Premier XI 1997/ /17 Tim retired from all cricket at the end of the 2016/17 Season. Tim gave outstanding service to Auckland and ACA gave a fitting tribute, and a presentation, to him at the Awards Dinner. Amongst Tim s achievements for Auckland include the following Provincial Records: Most 1 st Class games for Auckland 102 Reese Young is 2 nd with 97 Most runs for Auckland 5980 from 176 inn., ave, 268 hs. 2 nd is Trevor Franklin 5051, also Parnell. Most centuries for Auckland 17 including 4 in 2008/09 In addition, Tim played 17 Tests for New Zealand scoring 854 runs at and 2 centuries, highest score of 136. For Parnell Premiers, Tim totalled 8480 runs at and 19 centuries, highest score of 170. The figures speak for themselves thank you Tim for your outstanding career! 12 Dave Keane Auckland s Groundsman of the Year 2016/17 and, again, in 2017/18 Dave Keane preparing the Shore Road Pitch (photo per Auckland Cricket website) and the picture perfect pitch Despite a total restructuring of Council contracts, in which Australian firm Ventia won out, Dave has continued as Groundsman at Shore Road Reserve and, as he had for the previous 4 seasons, produced pitches of outstanding quality. Dave s pitches produce both pace and bounce and are renowned as for being fair to both batsmen and bowlers a factor recognised by both Parnell and opposing players. This to the extent that several players wishing to go further in the game have moved, or are moving, to join Parnell. Batsmen wishing to bat regularly on a good surface and bowlers needing to show that they can dominate on a fair pitch and not just on a green top or a dust bowl. Such latter surfaces are not found, these days, in the Plunket Shield or limited overs interprovincial games. Congratulations, Dave, your skill and devotion to duty has again been recognised by the umpires and, for the second year in succession, you fully deserve the award of Auckland s Groundsman of the Year. Note: Ground Assessments were made by the umpires following each game. Basis: Bounce of the pitch (on Day 1. &, again, Day 2.), Consistency of the bounce (again on Days 1. & 2.), Pace of the pitch (on each Day) and Overall Rating. Shore Road topped in all categories except pace on 2 nd Day. Cornwall Park was 2 nd, Onewa Domain 3 rd (amazing comeback after rated 11 th = in 2016/17). Lowest rated in 2017/18 were Te Atatu Park (13 th ) and Victoria Park 14 th the latter suffering dreadfully from the multitude of City events being held there. Club Hospitality Top Rating to Parnell Auckland Cricket, based on ratings by the umpires, has determined that Parnell topped the table for 2017/18 a marvellous accolade for the volunteers who provide lunches and teas for the Premier players and match officials, and tend the Bar. Also the hosting of visiting teams Auckland A played Northern Districts A at Shore Road early in the Season and, in the New Year, Parnell was host to the Hertfordshire Seniors (2 games) and the Hollywood CC. Particular thanks to Bryan Haggitt, Gill Lane and Mary Ann Fisher for their help with lunches when the Prems were home and, on those special days with overseas visitors, Margaret Smith, Donna Trott, Lynne Horne and Jenny Haggitt.. It should be noted that the Club employs no catering or bar staff all is done by volunteers, and grateful thanks goes to Bar Manager, Marc O Gorman for continuing to undertake that role. At Premier games, Paul Sylvia is most helpful at tending to the umpires and scorers needs and, always, it is great to see so many parents of players, past players and visitors to the ground enjoying our facilities and browsing over our memorabilia. 13 CHAIRMAN S REPORT Craig Presland, Chairman The 2017/18 financial year and cricket season was another successful one for PCC as it seeks to become (or otherwise remain) the leading cricket club across the Auckland region, as stated in the Club s 3-year Strategic Plan. I summarise the year as follows: 1. Overview The 2017/18 season started with junior playing numbers similar to the prior year (688 vs. 679), while total numbers were up by 18 to 881. This was a pleasing result given the significant growth (18%) in junior playing numbers over the prior 2 years since the World Cup was co-hosted by NZ and Australia in Feb / March We have been able to maintain our numbers following this highly promotional event while many other clubs across Auckland and NZ have lost ground over the past 12 months. The Club had 2 players chosen for the BLACKCAPS during the season (Lockie Ferguson and Mark Chapman) while a third enjoyed his second season with the Auckland Aces (Ben Horne). Of equal importance was the re-emergence of women s cricket with PCC fielding its first Premier and Premier Reserve teams in Auckland Cricket Association (ACA) competitions since The total number of females playing for PCC in all grades rose from 74 in the prior season to 84. On-field results were positive overall despite the Men s Premier team failing to win an ACA title. The men s 2 nd and 3 rd XI s, after both being promoted to higher grades following very strong results in the prior season, performed creditably with the 3 rd XI winning their 1-day (limited overs) title. Our junior rep results were also very pleasing with representation at EDCA level up on prior season with 60 PCC rep players chosen making up 42% of EDCA s total numbers across all 7 grades (boys and girls), this figure being 37% in the prior year. Our financial results were in line with budget while a small surplus was achieved. Capital expenditure included the construction of an office in the Terry Jarvis Centre (TJC) for our new Director of Cricket, Phil Horne, 2 portable nets for use on the grass wicket block as well as nearby artificial wickets, and new astroturf laid in the TJC in April this year. PCC s performance in meeting a wide range of higher targets as set by ACA in our Service Level Agreement with them was good at almost 90% (75 out of 85) and leading the way across the other 15 cricket clubs in the region. Volunteer relations were positive overall, this reflective of the efforts and experience of our Junior Committee, Junior Grade Coordinators, and Board. Finally, the Club benefitted from the services of its Director of Cricket (Phil Horne) over most of the financial year, a newly created position that involved leading the entire operations of PCC ie. all 10 work streams as detailed in the Club s Strategic Plan. We are delighted to have Phil on board with us in this role after what was a thorough recruitment process with a very high level of interest shown in the role. All paid positions within the Club, including all coaching staff, have reported to Phil since his start in the role on 3 rd July Playing Results: Junior ACA titles won (from Grade 6 to Grade 9/10): Year 6 Premier Plate Championship (Parnell Hadlee) Year 8a Championship, Pool 3 (Parnell Simpson) Years 9/10 T20 Premier Championship, White Pool (Parnell Wallace) Under 15a Girls Future Hearts (Parnell Diamonds) ACA District Tournaments In terms of Auckland Districts junior rep cricket EDCA won the Peter Badley Shield for the 3 rd time in 4 years, this contested across the 5 Districts that make up the Auckland region, an excellent achievement and reflective of the high-quality coaching and administration of this progressive regional cricket association. Annual junior rep fixtures against neighbouring clubs (Years 3 to 7): v. Grafton United CC Nov wins, 3 losses v. Auckland University CC Dec 2016, 6 wins, 6 losses v. Howick Pakuranga CC Feb 2017, 8 wins, 2 losses v. Cornwall CC March 2017, 4 wins, 5 losses The Club took part in the inaugural J T Sparling Super Series over the summer against the above 4 clubs, plus 1 other, finishing a close second overall behind Cornwall CC - please refer to our Junior Chairman s Report for more details. These impressive results are reflective of the quality and quantity of the Club s professional coaching. 13.

All Grade Coordinators (Year 1 to Year 9/10) and Members of the Junior Committee. James Dudson and Jon Tierney for their roles in representing PCC on the ECDA Committee, selecting EDCA teams and ensuring ACA District tournaments are run successfully. Senior ACA title won: 4th Grade Limited Overs Championship (3 rd XI) Our Premier Men s team finished in 6 th place from 8 teams that contested in the ACA Hedley Howarth 2-day competition leading over the pre-xmas period however falling away over the latter half of the season. The team was knocked out of the semi-final of the Jeff Crowe Cup (1-day) and quarter final of the T20 competition. The team performed admirably however and was a credit to the club, always playing within the spirit of cricket under the astute captaincy of Dave Goddard and highly experienced coaching of Ian Trott until late January when he departed PCC to take up a 3- year coaching contract with Auckland Grammar School. This team won 2 important ACA awards: The Spirit of Cricket Award as decided by Auckland s Premier Grade umpires, and the Grosvenor Cup for the Best All Round Team as also determined by the umpires. Ian was in his 11 th consecutive season with PCC and has shown a very high level of loyalty and commitment to PCC over this period. He has since been replaced by Ian West as PCC s Head Coach, Ian having coached the Auckland A men s rep and GUCC men s premier teams during 2017/18 while also performing the role of Director of Cricket at EDCA. Ian started in his role with us on 1 st May 2018 and has been very active since. As mentioned our Men's 2 nd and 3 rd XI s both performed admirably in higher grades with the following contributing significantly to the coaching, management and leadership of these teams: Premier Reserves: Thirds: Tom Talbot (captain), Sam Fastier (vice captain) and Roy Goodyear (coach/manager) Elliot Jaffe (captain), Rowan Smith (vice captain) and Sean Milne (manager) In addition, the Club fielded a Men s 4 th XI which did very well in both competitions that it played in (2-day and 1-day), coming second in both. The Club s President s Grade team continued to compete strongly in this very successful and popular competition, flying the Club s flag and good name with pride while producing a strong camraderie over recent years. I would like to thank Peter Hickman (Club Captain) for his untiring efforts in welcoming newcomers, keeping tabs on availability of players, aiding the team selection process and managing the Club communication network through Facebook. Also the small group of the Men s Premier team supporters for their very loyal following of the team across the season: Bryan Haggitt, Craig Speakman and Marc O Gorman coming to mind along with many of the respective parents and families of the players. 3. Women s Cricket: The Club fielded its first Women s Premier and Premier Reserve teams to compete in the respective ACA competitions since 2010, a tribute to the determination and focus of PCC director Dominic Drumm ably supported by Jonathan McInroy (coach), Stephanie Carr (captain/player coach) and Geoff Mills (Premier XI manager) and Tom Bassett (Premier Reserves manager) The Premier team secured its first win towards the end of the season while the premier reserve team finished 3 rd from 8 teams in both its 1-day and 2-day competitions, a creditable performance. PCC s U-15 team won its ACA competition clearly, we have some very good talent coming through. PCC remains very committed towards the development and growth of girl s / women s cricket and we are well placed to take advantage of the new strategic direction of NZ Cricket in also focussing strongly on female participation and high performance in the sport. PCC Board of Directors The 2017/18 year saw a continuation of the same Board that was in place over 2016/17 with one exception, Simon Wood replacing Venu Bhamidipaty as Senior Chairman at last year s AGM. In addition, Rod Smith has remained as PCC President over 2017/18 and has attended Board meetings upon the invitation of the Chairman, as has Bryan Haggitt (Life Member). Volunteer Relations: Jeremy (Head), Dominic, Craig P Our Director of Cricket, Phil Horne and Club Administrator, Steve Hurdley, have had active roles to play across on all 10 workstreams. I would like to thank PCC s hard-working Board, Rod, Bryan, Phil and Steve for their dedicated efforts and commitment, and absolute passion for PCC and the game itself over the past 12 months. The level of knowledge and experience, as well as ability to roll their sleeves up and makes things happen, has been impressive. 6. Strategic Plan, 1 st August 2016 to 31 st July 2019 In July 2016 our Board, Rod, Bryan and Steve agreed upon a 3-year Strategic Plan after conducting a SWOT analysis across each of the above 10 workstreams as well as seeking feedback from some Club Members. As part of this 3-year plan we have set priorities for our resources (time and $ funds), while this plan has been summarized as a one-page document that sits on display in our clubrooms. 7. Facilities and Grounds In terms of the proposed new pavilion the Club has not been able to agree with Grammar Juniors Rugby, the joint lessee of 32 Shore Rd, upon an optimal design that meets the needs of both sporting clubs. As a result, PCC is now pursuing building its own pavilion, at its own cost, that meets its needs on the south eastern corner of Bloodworth Park and within close-proximity to the TJC. This pavilion will be 2-storey with elevated views across the Park, and Hobson Bay, while being situated very close to the boundary of what will be the main oval. Such a project will require a substantial upgrade of Bloodworth Park, at rate payer cost, including removal of contaminated soils, installation of drainage, and the raising and levelling of the playing surface. We are currently working with Auckland Council, along with local iwi, on this while preliminary design drawings have recently been drafted. We see this as a 4 to 5-year project through to the completion of the required fundraising and construction of the new pavilion and as a result the Board has decided to commit some funds towards renovating and upgrading our existing clubrooms in tandem with Grammar Juniors Rugby. Financial Results PCC recorded a small surplus of $5,499 after depreciation for the year that was slightly favourable to budget. Revenues exceeded $430,000 for the first time in the Club s history on the back of increased sponsorship, increased membership fees and greater revenues from the TJC indoor training centre. The Club was prudent in its spending throughout the financial year while capital expenditure was targeted at areas of need, some of this covered by The Peter Badley Trust. In terms of cash the Club had over $131,657 in its bank accounts (current and fixed term deposits) as at balance date. 8. Sponsorship PCC remains very grateful for the support from its key commercial partners in Ascot Radiology, Player Sports and a new lead sponsor added earlier in the season in Megan Jaffe Real Estate (Ray White Remuera). A big thanks to these local businesses for their valued and ongoing contributions which enable the club to provide its high level of coaching and support for its players. We could not provide the same cricket experience for our Members without this funding. Ascot Radiology, in particular, has been very loyal to PCC since 2011/12 and we have so much to thank this organisation for. Other much appreciated sponsors are Unichem Pharmacy (Newmarket and Remuera), Crowe Horwth and OM Financial Ltd (OMF). 15.

16 9. Schools We have worked hard to strengthen our relationship with all schools in our catchment including the addition of signed Memorandum s of Understanding with each school outlining the respective commitments, scope of coaching services that PCC provides, use of respective facilities etc. Of particular note would be the close association which the Club has with St Kentigern Boys School through the efforts of Jonathan McInroy as one of PCC s professional coaches, and Mr Grayson Aspinall, Deputy Head of the school, along with St Peters College via link we have with Simon Wood. King s School, too, is closely associated and thanks go to Simon Herbst for his coaching there and, at Baradene with Jonathan McInroy. 10. Coaching Our experienced and highly capable professional coaching structure, headed by Ian Trott until late January this year, continued to provide PCC with a point of difference in comparison with other clubs. Ian left the club to take up a 3-year coaching contract with Auckland Grammar School and we wish him well in this new role. Phil Horne coached our Men s Premier team over the remainder of the season while the club has recently appointed Ian West into the Head Coach role. The Club also farewelled Simon Herbst at the end of the season as one of its leading junior coaches, Simon having been with PCC since Like Ian, Simon has also taken up a coaching role at AGS. The remainder of our coaching staff included Jonathan McInroy, Roy Goodyear, Cam Rope and four very capable young English player / coaches in Alex Grimes, Joe Gray, Elliot Foster and Cam Willis. All 10 coaches mentioned above proved to be both effective and well-respected across our senior and junior players, parents, volunteers and supporters. 11. Final Thanks Finally, I would like to thank Phil Horne for his outstanding contribution to the club in his first year as Director of Cricket. Phil started with us in early July 2017 and quickly settled into the role providing an immediate impact in the retention of our outstanding groundsman (Dave Keane), the switch to a new on-line player registration system (Club Hub), and improved TJC facilities (batting surfaces across all 3 lanes). Phil has never looked back from this impressive introduction into the Club and has been ably supported by our Club Administrator, Steve Hurdley, over the bulk of the financial year - Steve now in his 10th year with the club. I am confident that PCC is one of the best administered cricket clubs across the Auckland region if not nationally. Well done Phil and Steve. We look forward to the season ahead! Craig Presland - Chairman PHIL HORNE - APPOINTED PARNELL S DIRECTOR OF CRICKET Phil Horne Director of Cricket, wearing his I Zingari Australia CC blazer and The New Zealand team to Pakistan, 1990/91, - Phil, back row, 3 rd from right, with team mates Martin Crowe (capt.), Trevor Franklin (Parnell front, 2 nd from left) David White (now CEO NZ Cricket), Mark Greatbach, Danny Morrison, Ken Rutherford and others In July 2017 a new role, Director of Cricket was created and Phil Horne, retiring from Brittain Wynyard Ltd (the sports goods wholesaler for whom he had worked for many years), was appointed to fill this position. Phil reports directly to the Club Chairman. An outstanding sportsman, Phil is a double international having represented New Zealand at both cricket and badminton, the latter at no fewer than three Commonwealth Games. Phil, whilst a very successful opening bat for Auckland, was most unlucky to run into Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner on Test debut as slippery an opening attack as any. Then, in his final of 4 Tests over 3 years, he had to contend with Waqar Younis when NZ toured Pakistan. Tough time for an opening batsman but, for Auckland, Phil played 52 1 st Class Games, scored almost 3000 runs and his highest of 5 centuries was 209 vs Northern Districts. Not only a bat, Phil was renowned as one of the most outstanding fieldsmen of his time. Phil s club cricket was with Grafton United but, living close by and with son Ben coming up through our Junior grades to Aces selection, Phil has been very involved with Parnell for a long time including serving several seasons as a Board member. His playing days aren t over he has headed to England to tour with I Zingari Australia CC. A wonderful itinerary including a game on the Nursery Ground at Lord s and another against Eton College.. As Director of Cricket, Phil s multi talents have already been put fully to the test as he, very willingly, stepped in as Acting Head Coach on Ian Trott s departure late January. That, plus general management, control of coaching for all ages (5-70!) and all other Club matters has kept Phil well and truly on his toes this past seson and he is thriving on it! 17 WOMEN S CRICKET Dominic Drumm Female Cricket at Parnell Cricket Club made a huge leap forward this season with the reinstatement of a Premier Women s team in the top flight of Women s cricket in Auckland. With Stephanie Carr joining the Club as Captain and blending new arrivals with up and coming youngsters, the team proved to be very competitive. The team s hard work was rewarded with their first victory soon after Xmas and has attracted the attention of many young female cricketers looking for their next opportunity. A highlight of the year was the depth that the Premier Reserve team offered as inevitable injuries and absences occurred offering options for the Premier Coach and Captain to blood younger players. The Reserves placed 3rd in both the T20 and 35 Over competitions exceeding all expectations due to the ages of the team ranging between 14 and 17 only. At the younger age groups, the U15 Parnell Girls team won the pre-xmas Auckland Competition earning another banner in back to back fashion. The U12s were competitive finishing 3 rd and proving a rich development environment for Parnell s future in female cricket. Parnell and Dio again combined to enter a team in the U10 soft ball competition at Melville Park. Parnell are looking forward developing this alliance further. This has placed PCC well ahead of many other clubs with Auckland Cricket now looking at tougher SLAs with female participation in cricket. The challenge ahead for PCC is to ensure that the growth in the female game is sustained. Sally Woodfield has recently accepted the role of Junior Girls Convener with a special focus on boosting the numbers and participation in Under 10s. A special thanks goes to the coaches of the girls teams and Jonathan McInroy for the efforts in growing the game and ensuring that PCC is seen as the best club to develop female cricketers in Auckland. 18 END OF AN ERA /08 to 2017/18 WE FAREWELL IAN TROTT, DAVID GODDARD AND MICHAEL RAVLIC David Goddard, on behalf of the Men s Premier XI farewelling Coach Ian Trott in the Shore Road Changingroom And, back 2015 with other Prem stalwarts, winners of the Hedley Howarth Trophy The Team s outstanding record over the past seasons is set out for all to see on the front cover of this Annual Report. However, it still hardly touches on the contribution and culture created by these three individuals which has elevated Parnell to be recognised as one of the foremost clubs in Auckland. In 10 completed seasons the Hedley Howarth Trophy was won, the Jeff Crowe Cup won twice and the Tom Hellaby Trophy also won twice. Another 7 times runner-up or unsuccessful Finalist throughout these years one of the top two teams. But more than that was the way they played the game and adhered to the spirit of the game a feature acknowledged by the Umpires. The Spirit of Cricket Award has been made to this Parnell Men s Premier XI no fewer than four times in the past eight years no other club has received it more than once. This speaks volumes for the Team leadership of captain David Goddard and coach Ian Trott. One must not forget those leaders of the past back in 2001/02 Paul Vujnovich brought a very sound team from Orakei to Shore Road. Greg Wallace was coach then Wayne Wheeler, a former captain. Dave Richardson followed and coached for 3 seasons. Stalwarts then were Paul Vujnovic, Aidan Hill, the Barton brothers Hamish and Willy and Matt Cairns with the bat, all rounders Simon Hawk Steve Gallaugher plus, with the ball, Roger Henderson, Simon Dykes, Wayne Wheeler,Aidan Hobson and Simon Dykes But the advent of Ian Trott in 2007/08 transformed the Premier XI. Lead first by Doug Winger, later Will Brittain and, latterly for the last 4 seasons, Dave Goddard, our Premier XI first won the Tom Hellaby Trophy to enable it to compete for the Hedley Howarth Trophy. Young batsment flourished Mark Turner scored 1070 runs the first since Merv Wallace in 1938/39 to score 1000 in a season. Two others have done so since Kirk Bunting and Ben Horne. Above all, Tim McIntosh flourished and earned Black Cap selection. And bowlers flourished Brad Winger and James Walsh spearheaded the pace attack, Bruce Martin finally fulfilled his early promise and became a Black Cap and Dave Goddard arrived to provide additional spin. But it was Mike Ravlic who sparked the greatest successes. Mike came to us from Mt Albert Grammar, a very short stint at Grafton and EDCA U18s. At EDCA Trotty quickly saw Mike s potential which was fulfilled almost immediately on his arrival at Shore Road in 2011/12.Mike took 47 wickets at in his first season then, in his second, 85 wickets at 15.68, an all time Club record. Mike was selected for Auckland A on a numberof occasions but 1 st Class honours eluded him. Mike continued to give sterling service for our Prems to the extent that in his 6 and a half seasons he took 315 wickets at His best figures were 7/23, vs Suburbs New Lynn, and he took 6 wickets in an innings another 3 times. Mike has joined the NZ Police, hence his premature retirement. Mike we all wish you well and look forward to your return to Parnell when law enforcement duties allow. And David Goddard the Club s most successful captain in modern times. David joined Parnell as a wee lad earliest report describes him as a fast bowler but he progressed through Junior ranks representing EDCA and Auckland at most Age levels. Recognised very early as a leader, he captained Parnell s extremely successful Under 15 XI, a side that contained Jimmy Neesham and a number of future Club Premier colleagues Kirk Bunting, Tom Talbot, Justin Rosenberg. Captaincy of Auckland Grammar s 1 st XI followed what joy to have Lockie Ferguson and Jimmy Neesham as one s opening bowlers. From 1 st XI to Parnell Premiers and the role of go to 6 or 7 batsman and the leading off spinner. David showed enormous promise, enjoyed considerable success and was selected for Auckland A. Vice Captaincy of Parnell followed under Will Brittain who he went on to succeed and the rest is history. As Captain, the Hedley Howarth Trophy was snared for the first time for many years plus three very near misses. ( Don ) MORRIS 1921 to 2018 OBITUARIES RPSC Opening Day 1954/55 Club Captain Don Morris sitting in front Don at Shore Road, December 2017 Don Morris was a founder of, and the last of the original Life Members of the Remuera Parnell Sports Club. The RPSC, founded in 1948, was affiliated to Parnell CC and, much later, absorbed as our Junior Section. Don became involved with the then Remuera-Parnell Sports Club in 1948 when his son George began playing. He was introduced to the Club by the President Alan Brown and he quickly joined Dennis Coyne in coaching the junior team for ages 6 to 9. Dennis quickly handed over the coaching to Don and Dennis managed the side. Don recalled that we had 22 young juniors and in total 5 teams in the junior club. Practices were at 4pm on Wednesday evenings at Thomas Bloodworth Park which then included just the corner of Brighton Road and Shore Road with just one concrete pitch. Don with his sons George and Wayne carried the team gear bag to and from their home in Newmarket, the trip up Ayr Street going home was always a challenge. A storage shed was eventually built on the water s edge by Reg Savory and Ces Scarborough to store the gear which was greatly appreciated by Don. Don s goal was that everybody got a bat and the results didn t matter, and it was Don s job to make sure everyone played cricket and they were all in whites! Don became Club Captain in 1953/54 to 1959/60 but had to relinquish the role when he was promoted by his company Hicks Smith and Sons a distributor of toys, games and books, to the role of traveller. The company owner, Frank Ardmore, was very generous to the Club and donated products which were sold in a stall every opening day. Frank was made a Vice Patron of the Club. The opening day was a major event each season with the Mayor Sir Dove Myer (Robbie) Robinson and Thomas Bloodworth, who lived in Bassett Road, attending. Don once recalled bowling to Robbie to open the season. Don s wife Betty (Biddy) also ran a cake stall. Don continued coaching, following his sons progress. As the boys grew older the cricket became more competitive with the matches versus Orakei coached by Roy Morgan standing out. What a battle those matches must have been with future test cricketers Ross Morgan playing for Orakei and Mark Burgess playing for Parnell! As a coach Don was competitive and if any of the kids dropped a catch, Wednesday s practice would see the ball disappearing into the sky, but Don recalled the kids were catching them all over the place. Don was helped in his coaching by Merv Wallace who organised coaching the coach s sessions. Don recalled he installed in me in coaching, to watch the bowlers hand all the way and put your foot to the pitch of the ball and he said if you did that you would never be out LBW. Don said we were lucky at Parnell for the knowledge he gave us. Don s boys George and Wayne were both good bowlers with George taking 89 wickets one season bowling off spin. Sadly, representative selectors wanted only one off spinner and Ross Morgan who was also an exceptional batsman got the position each season. As a child Don did not play organised cricket but played street cricket on his home street Union Street in Newmarket against Peter McGregor s father who also lived in the same street. Later he played Business House cricket for the Hillside Cricket Club who were affiliated with College Rifles Rugby Club. Don remembered one game where they played the NZ Women s team in a practice match where he made 30 odd. Don also coached rugby for the Parnell Rugby Club. In his final year his side shared the Auckland Championship with a Nil all draw in the final. His team included Peter Pole Whiting. Don recalled the maroon jerseys with a gold P. Don was made a Life Member of the junior club and latter in 1987 the Parnell Cricket Club. He was one of the original 6 junior club life members along with Alan Brown, Dennis Coyne, Brian Gascoigne, Ken McLellan, and Colin McMillin (Matt s grandfather). Later Roy Schnauer, Graham Laird and Steve Clerk were made Life Members by the junior club. Sympathies are extended to Don s sons George and Wayne and Daughter Paula and families. 20 JOHN D.T. ( Johnny or Megsy ) RYAN 15/4/1933 to 23/2/2016 Johnny Ryan, Life Member and, at Easter 1959, Manager of the Parnell CC XI that beat an Auckland XI We have only just learned that Johnny Ryan died two years ago so this Obituary is somewhat belated apologies to Johnny s widow, Lorraine, for this oversight. Johnny, a Life Member, was, along with Jack Forsman and Peter Badley, one of the small team of volunteers who, week after week through the summers in the 1950s/60s, prepared the pitches at Hobson Park. They worked extraordinarily hard and very much to the detriment of their own cricket. Totally unselfish after work, Saturday mornings, Sundays they laboured on the pitches and the field. Pitches needed top dressing pre-season and then, each week, repaired, rolled, creases and boundaries to be marked out 9 schoolboy wickets for Saturday mornings, 8 for adults and secondary schoolboys for afternoon play. Then 6 wickets for social games on Sundays ground fees from these were a very important source of Club funds. Hard labour is was never a complaint, it was all done for the good of the game. Johnny Ryan was Jack and Peter s right hand man. always at Hobson Park, it was a life s devotion. On Saturdays he would be seen one moment in work shorts, with a bucket of white wash in hand, and the next, in whites, scurrying out to bat or to take his place in the field. His nickname, Megsy, was a reference to his red hair and the comic strip character Ginger Megs. As said totally unselfish, Johnny obviously loved the game. Any ambitions he had to play in higher grades were put aside in the interests of the Club. Just looking back at the 1964/65 Season averages, Johnny played for a number of Parnell s teams, for our Thirds he had one innings 61 and took 2/21. He also filled in for the District Grade Senior team scoring 22 in his only innings but most of the season was spent captaining/mentoring our Secondary A side. For them he batted at no. 10 or 11 the boys came first. Interesting to note that Scotney Williams and Johnny shared in a 10 th wicket partnership of 44 the best last wicket stand in any grade for Parnell that season. And the worth of this unselfishness from that Secondary School A team, Tony Noble and Mark Cennamo went on to be Senior players of note and Roger Harvey and Warren Bygrave became Life Members of Parnell CC having given years and years of great service to the Club both on the field and administratively. Johnny was President of Parnell from 1964 to 1967 and it was during his Presidency that Auckland Hockey dropped the bombshell that Hobson Park was required for summer hockey, that Eastern Districts CA s sub-lease would not be renewed and the Park was no longer available for cricket. What a blow - at very short notice the Club had to take refuge at Eden Park and, for a Clubroom, use a bare changing room under the old No. 1 or South Stand. These facilities shared with the Eden and University CCs. It took 17 years to find a suitable replacement ground but the Club survived, and moved to Orakei Domain in Johnny married Lorraine and they moved to Thames. Years later he was elected a Life Member of the Club, an honour that should have been bestowed years before. And since then their grandson, Ben, has played for the Club as a Junior.. 21 DEREK ALAN THOMAS 5 March 1941 to 7 May 2018 Derek, an Hon. Vice President, began his association with Parnell by turning out for our Presidentswho valued him as a determined opening bat and then through the late 1980s and 90s was an extremely good volunteer Manager/Coach of Junior teams and a superbly orgamised Grade Co-ordinator. In later years, Derek and his wife, Jill, were regular supporters of our Premiers and watched many games at Shore Road where they were well known to many of our players having been involved with their development from very earliest days. Derek had emigrated to NZ from Hampshire, England, on recruitmant by the ANZ Bank. A very keen club cricketer, he was the same vintage and played in the same club leagues as those of Hampshire stalwarts such as Derek Shakleton. Through those Junior Manager/Coach years Derek did a superb job as James Walsh and the Winger brothers, Brad and Doug, will attest. Others who Derek influenced were Chris Horner, Nirrosh Nadesananthan and Dan Minhinnick. One disappointment must have been that his son Chris turned to golf in his teens after showing great promise with both bat and ball. Daughter Kim, also a very talented Junior cricketer, forsook the game for equestrian interests. On the administrative side, Derek did a great job as Crade Co-ordinator. A huge help to your Editor Derek took the Parnell A Team, I took one of the three B sides and there was never a dificulty or any misunderstanding. This was long before mobile phones or s and certainly no Facebook. Land lines were the answer and they never failed, thanks to Derek s efficiency! Our sympathy and condolences go to Jill, Kim and Chris. ROBERT EDWARD ( Bob ) GEE 1941 to 27 June 2018 Bob Gee was a team mate of your Editor back in the 1954/55 Season. This was for the Senior Primary B team. My memory is now hazy but Bob was quite vocal and I most certainly remember his comment as Orakei CC s no. 3 strode to the wicket was here comes trouble! He was quite right the batsman, Ross Morgan, hit a commanding 50 odd runs and then he and Freddy Marchant, skittled us with their bowling. The Remuera Parnell SC Annual Report for 1954/55 records that the Senior Primary B team was captained by Ross Stevenson who didn t miss a game, that D Duval was a tireless bowler who on one occasion bowled 20 overs unchanged no NZC or OSH strictures then for 12 year olds! and that others whose keeness is to be praised are H Wright, C Watts, G Henmmingson, J Peebles, R Gee, R Whittaker, R Stein and B Haggitt. No further mention of Bob Gee in either RPSC or Parnell CC reports but he had a cheerful personality and Alan Graham (now of Karori CC) advises that Bob was later Auckland Grammar School s 1 st XI wicket keeper, an extremely strong team. WELCOME TO IAN WEST, NEW HEAD COACH Ian West We welcome Ian West to Parnell. Ian hails from the north of England where he first played and then coached in the North Yorkshire and South Durham League. Ian has had playing experience in Australian club cricket, here for AUCC and has represented Samoa before hanging up his boots to coach at high performance level. As well as in the UK (Durham and, presently, with Gloucestershire), Ian has coached in Victoria, Samoa, and more latterly in Auckland at AUCC then at Grafton United since In addition, Ian has been Director of Cricket for EDCA the past two seasons and, since 2017, the Auckland Aces A team coach. His roles at EDCA and with Auckland A have already given him great insight into Parnell s rising stars and augurs well for the future. With Brad Rodden, Premier Captain Designate, Ian picks up a very talented pool of young players. With Brad s 1 st Class experience with Otago, Ian and Brad should have some very exciting times ahead and we wish them every success in 2018/19 and seasons beyond. 21.

22 JUNIOR CHAIRMAN S REPORT Jeremy Boucher I am pleased to present my report as Junior Chairman for Parnell Cricket Club for the 2017 / 18 season to the annual review. My report again covers what has been a very enjoyable and relatively successful year for the Club. As a Board, we want our Club to be the preferred cricket club across the Auckland region and we aim in all that we do to provide an inclusive cricket experience, full of opportunity for everyone to develop their own skills and most importantly to create an environment of fun and enjoyment. Our Club Mantra enshrining equal opportunity for all players summarises this well and guides us in our approach. I am pleased to report that in the main this mantra has again produced good results for us through the course of the past year. As you have read in the Chairman s report this year we successfully provided a great cricket experience for 688 Junior cricketers up from 679 in the prior season. With 881 players in the club, the Junior section of the club equates to 78% of the club s membership and remains crucial to the success and health of our club. Parnell is not the largest club in Auckland but we continue to make moves towards being the preferred cricket club as evidenced by more players joining the club from other clubs in Auckland. Our Friday night Grade 1 experience at Shore Road starts our programme off with good skills based learning in a fun environment and we move through the grades to cover all school years through to Grade 8. This year we have pleasingly managed to pull together some Grade 9 Representative teams to push a little further into college age players. This remains a key focus for both Parnell and our sister clubs that we compete against and we hope to make stronger progress in this area in the 2018 / 19 season. We remain committed to the development and growth of the women s and girl s games. Our programme has again been well led by Dominic Drumm and it is exciting to see Sally Woodfield come onto the Junior Committee as our representative for Girls Junior Cricket at Parnell. It has been very pleasing to see that all 3 of our Auckland representatives are girls. Congratulations to Emma and Kate Irwin for their selections for Auckland U15s and also to Jess Barker for her selection to Auckland U18. I would like to take this time to thank Jess for giving up her time to present the prizes to the Junior Club at our annual prize giving held at St Kentigern School. It was great to see her in her Auckland kit with so many younger players eyeballing her and shaking her hand firmly. Inspiring stuff. As far as results go, we secured 4 pieces of silverware from the 2017 / 18 season: Well done to the players, coaches, managers and parents of the following teams: - Parnell Hadlee (Grade 6 Premier Plate Championship) - Parnell Simpson (Grade 8a, Championship Pool 3) - Parnell Wallace (Grade 9/10 T20 Premier Championship White Pool) - Parnell Diamonds (U15a Girls Future Hearts) To be victorious in these ACA competitions whilst living and breathing our Mantra is a great result. Our representative cricket programme has also been successful this year with our participation in the inaugural J.T.Sparling Super Series. This idea was born out of a desire to create something bigger and bolder for the representative cricket programme and saw Parnell, Cornwall, University, Grafton and Howick Pakuranga all compete for the J.T.Sparling Shield awarded to the Club who amassed the most points from all the representative fixtures through the season. Points were awarded for each win achieved at all age grades and consolidated into a final tally for each fixture. Each club played all the other clubs, with league tables being created for each of the age grades and at a total club level. The Super Series culminated with a Finals Day in late March where those clubs in 1 st and 2 nd place in each of the age groups played off for the age group Cup. I congratulate again the victorious Parnell Grade 7 rep team for their overall victory in their age group. Parnell won 1 age group cup on the day with the other age group cups being split between University and Cornwall. As our Chairman has already mentioned we came a credible 2 nd place in the contest for the J.T. Sparling Shield which was won fairly and squarely by Cornwall. What sounds like a complicated programme in year 1, will be both easier and better in year 2 and 3 and we are hopeful that this J.T. Sparling Super Series will provide the vehicle to both stretch our better school age players as well as potentially entice our college age players to return to Parnell and play cricket for their club over the years when this age group have been traditionally lost to the club. The traditional results from our rep programme are as follows: v. Grafton United CC Nov wins, 3 losses v. Auckland University CC Dec 2016, 6 wins, 6 losses v. Howick Pakuranga CC Feb 2017, 8 wins, 2 losses v. Cornwall CC March 2017, 4 wins, 5 losses 2 wins, 1 draw and a loss reflect a satisfactory outcome from the rep programme. We continue to have Cornwall in our sights as far as representative cricket is concerned and will make further strides forward in the 2018 / 19 season to see our representative players and a broader pool of potential representative players nurtured to a higher level at all ages. 22.

23 These results in our representative season also resulted in many of our players being selected for the Eastern Districts Cricket Association (EDCA) which is the step up from the J.T.Sparling Super Series. We accounted for approx. 42% of the selections for EDCA which shows us ahead of our fair share of the mix when selected alongside the members of Grafton and University Cricket Clubs. Congratulations to these players who were selected at this level to represent their families and our club and to our coaches who coache these EDCA teams. My thanks also go to James Dudson and Jon Tierney for their representation of the Club as part of the EDCA committee. I would like to make mention of a few of our team who have been instrumental through the course of the season in making the season a success. We are fortunate too to have a team of dedicated coaches at Parnell. This team has seen some change in the past season but I would like to extend my thanks to Ian Trott, Jonathan McInroy, Simon Herbst and to Roy Goodyear for the work that they have done with our teams in the middle, in the nets or in the TJC. We will look forward to Jonathan and Roy returning next year and will keep in touch with Ian and Simon at Auckland Grammar School. Lastly but by no means least I d like to acknowledge both Steve Hurdley and Phil Horne who have again been instrumental in what has been a good season. Steve you have done an excellent job again and we are very grateful for the steady way you go about what you do. Phil you have been a revelation and a pleasure to have across the Club. Your energy and enthusiasm in year 1 have been fantastic and we are all looking forward to seeing what the coming seasons bring under your guidance as our Director of Cricket. The 2018 / 19 season will be a different season as both New Zealand and Auckland Cricket roll out changes in the playing conditions at each of the junior age grades. It is an exciting time to be involved in cricket administration as the game evolves quickly across all formats and as the junior grades evolve to increase levels of participation and enjoyment. All the changes that are being put in place are designed to get more balls in play and to shorten the game. The emphasis is on participation, inclusion and of course fun. There will be the opportunity for all levels of player to enjoy the game in whatever format they ultimately choose to play. It promises to be an exciting season that I am very much looking forward to sharing with you all. Winter well and I look forward to hopefully seeing you all return for the coming season. The Section thrived under him with the Club fielding on Saturday afternoons 4 Under 15 teams and two Under 17s. Hamish now lives on the Shore but was back at the Club in March for our 160 th Celebration. Reporting: The Peter Badley Shield Won in for the 3 rd time in 4 years The district cricket format for was for two equal teams for years Years 11 and 12/13 consisted of an A and a development team. EDCA put forward two teams in each of the boys grades for the District Tournament and one for the Girls U15. This gave our players the best opportunity to play district cricket and our coaches more coaching opportunities. District Cricket is played in a competitive environment and the coaches are tasked to win their respective grades and the enable the players to display their principle skill set, be it batting or bowling or wicket keeping. Tournament Results The teams play in their grade to wins points towards the overall trophy, the Peter Badley Shield. For the season the teams together combined to win the Peter Badley Shield for the best performing District across all grades in the Auckland Tournaments. This is the 3 rd time in the last 4 years. These awards are testaments to the coaches for their efforts, to the players for their teamwork and individual performances. PCC congratulates the achievement of all the players in the teams. Auckland Cricket have decided to restructure the school years to age groups for the high school boys, change the dates for the primary school boys and introduce an U13 competition for the girls. For EDCA this will bring many challenges of selecting players for the teams, getting good play for those selected and trying to maintain the interest of those fringe players who did not get a chance to play with in the tournament. 31 ADAPTIVE CRICKET DAY Held on 22 November the Annual Adaptive Cricket Day was a resounding success with the Club hosting some 80 plus students from Sommerville Special School,and the Pegasus Unit of Pakuranga College. A most enjoyable day which introduced the students to the game and special thanks to the 20+ Year 8 pupils from Saint Kentigern School who assisted our UK lads, Joe, Elliot, Alex and Cam in coaching and organising the Day. Sausages sizzled by Life Members Steve Clerk and Bryan Haggitt, completed the Day. With the exception of 2016/17 when a suitable date could not be found, this has been an annual event for a number of years. Hugely appreciated by the special needs students, we are most grateful for the help we receive from Sommerville and the Pegasus Unit and also from Saint Kentigern School who s Year 8 boys are tremendously understanding helpful on the Day. NEW GENERATIONS AT THE CLUB GRADE 1s ON FRIDAY EVENINGS Very sociable occasions, fun for the kids, and old Parnell players meeting up again! Some year olds made their debuts for Parnell this season many being sons or grandsons of past Club players. Coaching till Christmas was led by Joe Kinghorn-Gray till he returned to Scotland for an MCC coaching appointment. Cameron Rope took over in the New Year and was most ably assisted by the UK lads, Alex Grimes, Elliot Foster and Cam Willis plus Max Smith, Andrew Hickman and Ashwin Haran. 32 HERTFORDSHIRE SENIORS from England: VISITORS TO SHORE ROAD Game 1. Hertfordshire Seniors vs Auckland Over 60s on Bloodworth Game 2. PCC vs Hertfordshire XI The Toss & The Dinner Hertfordshire Seniors brought with them a large contingent of 35 players, umpires wives and supporters. A most congenial party and we had the pleasure of hosting them both at the start and at the finish of their extensive tour of NZ. Hertfordshire s first game here was on 22 February vs. Auckland Over 60s and played on Bloodworth. In the second, 7 March, Parnell played the Visitors on Shore Road No. 1.Both excellent games though details have been lost in the mists of time. Exploits on the field were suitably celebrated after the games with dinners in the Mike Simpson Lounge. A good many tall stories were told and our Chairman, Craig, caught up with the Hertfordshire Skipper, Duncan Elder they had been teammates back in 1982 playing for North Middlesex. Grateful thanks to President Rod for organising these games and to Margaret Smith for heading the catering team. HOLLYWOOD CC from Los Angeles, California, USA: Also arranged by President Rod, the visiting Hollywood CC played a Parnell Invitation XI on Good Friday, 30 March. Disappointingly, this game had to be played on Bloodworth as the rugby goal posts and training lights had already been erected on Shore Road Reserve. Despite this, a most enjoyable game was played though no famous film star was on show. Not like the old days Sir Aubrey Smith founded the Hollywood CC in 1932 and many stars played for the Club David Niven and Errol Flynn were regulars. Sir Aubrey captained England in his one Test vs South Africa in 1889 when he took 7 wickets for 61 (5/19 and 2/43) and England won by 8 wickets. Instead of film stars, several Cricket Society stalwarts took up the invitation to turn out for Parnell including Geoff Macleod-Smith and John Steer plus George Lamplough from the Hong Kong CC. Again we were indebted to Rod and Margaret Smith for arranging both the game and the catering. THE BLIND CRICKETERS and the BLACK CAPS at the TJC: On 14 February a number of Black Caps gathered at the TJC to join with a party of Blind Cricketers, and learn something of, their form of the game.cricket The media arrived in force giving the occasion considerable publicity and a bunch of Saint Kentigern School lads arrived to watch and to secure some autographs. JAMES RUSSELL TROPHY and KEN ROBERTSON CUP Trophies for Premier Men s Competition Between Grafton United and Takapuna CCs James Russell & Trophy Ken Robertson - Takapuna Honours Bd & PCC Hat Trick ball These two Trophies were inaugurated duing the season. James Russell, opening bat for Parnell in the Club s first games, took 10 wickets for Auckland in the very first interprovincial match, vs Wellington, in 1860 and was the first Secretary of the United CC when it was inaugurated in 1861, an amalgamation (due to lack of players) of Parnell, Auckland and West End CCs. Later an outstanding cricket administrator being President of Auckland Cricket Association. Grafton United now holds this Trophy. Ken Robertson was a longstanding member of Parnell through the 1940s including serving as Hon. Treasurer from He played mainly in the lower grades, scoring at least one 100 and taking a hat trick (the mounted ball is in Takapuna CC s archives). A successful captain, at Easter 1945, he led a Parnell team to Whangarei - a side that included several youngsters including Peter Badley, the Team photo is in our archives. Ken then moved to the North Shore and, in 1950, was elected the inaugural President of the Takapuna CC. Takapuna, by winning the final game of the 2017/18 season, is the current holder of the Ken Robertson Cup. JAMES RUSSELL LUNCHEON Mark Burgess Phil Horne Israel Vaealiki Former NZ captain & batsman Our Director of Cricket & former NZ bat Partner at Jackson Russell A very successful Luncheon was held during the James Russell Trophy game vs Grafton United pre Christmas. Mark Burgess addressed a large group of old time supporters, Grafton United and Parnell and including Israel Vaealiki, a partner in Jackson Russell, the legal firm that James Russell established with Samuel Jackson. Mark told of how he grew up at Parnell as a Junior but, eventually, transferred to Grafton United to improve his bowling opportunities. As an off spinner at Parnell he was competing against Geoff Rabone and Ross Morgan, both offies.needless to say, at 1 st Class and International level, Mark made a great name for himself as a batsman and hardly bowled! Mark is an Hon. Vice President of Parnell and greatly values his links to both clubs.phil Horne played for Grafton United all his real playing life so he now has very close ties to both clubs, too. 39 The Premier Women XI presented with the Manager s Award for their notable contribution to the Club Irrespective of the outcome of their games, the Team regularly came back to the Club on Saturday evenings. By doing so, they added wonderfully to the social atmosphere and culture of the Club Chairman Craig presenting the Chairman s Trophy to Dave Goddard for his outstanding contribution to the Club PLAYER of the YEAR The MJ Simpson Cup to Brad Rodden Concluding the formalities of the Awards Dinner Mike Ravlic and Dave Goddard were farewelled Mike to join the NZ Police and Dave away on OE and to seek his fortune on the money markets of the world. First, Dave spoke of Mike s wholehearted contribution as a devastatingly successful pace bowler and team member of the Prems. Bryan Haggitt spoke of Dave s impeccable cricketing pedigree and remarkably successful tenure as Premier Captain. George Harper added his endorsement and Mike and Dave were presented with pewter tankards and 150 th Anniversary Caps. 40 SENIOR TEAM REPORTS MENS PREMIER GRADE Captain: David Goddard Coaches: Ian Trott to Phil Horne from Captain: David Goddard Awarded the Grosvenor Cup and Spirit of Cricket Award Coaches: Ian Trott then Phil Horne ACTING COACH PHIL HORNE REPORTING: The Premier team had high hopes for a stellar year after being a contender in the Hedley Howarth Championship the previous season. However, after a strong first half of the season we disappointingly very narrowly missed the top four play offs on a countback. The unexpected resignation of Ian Trott and the unavailability of Mike Ravlic were compelling factors, but the reality is that we had one poor weekend of cricket that cost us. In white ball cricket we lost out to the weather in the T20 quarter finals v HPCC and were beaten in the LO semi-finals by eventual champions Cornwall. There were several individual highlights throughout the season but unfortunately, we didn t collectively produce the results that we hoped for. Brad Rodden joined us from The Deep South and his class and experience was evident throughout the season. Brad s 716 runs were the backbone of the batting and he was ably supported by Andy Lane, Deane Van DeVenter and Ben Rainger. Ben was unfortunate to miss several games through injury. I am sure the batting group will be striving for greater consistency in 2018 / The bowling group all had good performances, with Josh Fisher securing 34 wickets and often being the go to bowler in Mike Ravlic s absence. The team spirit throughout the season was outstanding and this is a credit to the leadership group under the stewardship of captain David Goddard. It was testament to David s captaincy that Parnell were awarded The Grovesnor Cup Umpires Award for The Best All Round Cricket Team and also The Spirit of Cricket Award. We welcomed new players to The Peaches this season and the nucleus is there for a strong season in 2018 / 2019 and we congratulate Ian West on his appointment to succeed Ian. However, we farewell key players and coach in stalwarts David Goddard, Michael Ravlic, Mitch McCann and Ian Trott. Mitch has been a welcome addition over the past 2 seasons, providing all round skills, experience and leadership. Michael joined Parnell in 2011 / 2012 and made an immediate impact with his disciplined and threatening bowling. Michael was often the go to player for his Captain and he finished with a remarkable 315 wickets at average. David joined Parnell from AGS in 2008 / 09 scoring 2363 runs and taking 232 wickets with his demanding off spin. A fine student of the game, David captained Parnell from 2014 / 2015 with a highlight being captaining the team to The Hedley Howarth 2 Day Championship 65 years since the previous title. We wish these gentlemen well in their retirement and hope to see them back in Peaches colours in the future. Ian has set the standard at PCC for the past 9 seasons and he leaves a legacy that will be enduring. Ian s philosophy of practising hard and playing hard but fair is simple but important. Ian thank you for your time, commitment and passion, PCC is a better place for having you here. These retirements provide exciting opportunities for players and the newly appointed Premier Coach, Ian West next season. On the International and Domestic front, we were thrilled to have Lockie Ferguson and Mark Chapman playing for The Black Caps. It is quite an achievement to have 2 Internationals in one club and well done to Lock and Chappie. Ben Horne joined them at first class level for The Aces. Thanks to our band of supporters and support staff who once again experienced the highs and lows during the season. 43 PREMIER WOMEN S GRADE Captain Stephanie Carr Manager Geoff Mills and Coach Jonathan McInroy MANAGER GEOFF MILLS REPORTING: 2017/18 saw the return of a Premier Women s team within Parnell Cricket Club. Girls came together from several other clubs along with a few moving up within the ranks of Parnell from the previous year s Premier Reserve side to form a young side within the Premier grade. The season started off with many girls not having played together before but by the end of the season the girls started to gel well together and put in some great team performances. This first season for the Premier Women was seen as a learning year, for the younger girls to be introduced in the Premier level and gain confidence playing against girls of a higher class and skill. The team achieved the desired milestone which was to manage one win for the season. However, it was obvious in the post-christmas games that the team started to become more competitive, narrowly losing a few games to tougher teams. The first win came right at the end of the season against Howick Pakuranga. Standout performances from Samantha Brake- Howard and Shriya Naidu with the ball saw Howick Pakuranga all out for 81. Shriya Naidu held her nerve with the bat and helped steer Parnell to 82/8 with what turned out to be a very nerve-wracking finish for the team. Parnell was lined up to play off against Howick Pakuranga for 5 th and 6 th in the competition, however unfortunately due to rain Parnell did not get the chance for another potential win against Howick Pakuranga to take the 5 th position. Individual stand out performances were achieved within the season with Polly Inglis making a maiden century for the team in a T20 game against Papatoetoe. Alice Le Marquand and Samantha Brake-Howard both managed to take 4 wickets in a game within the season and also heavily contributed with further wickets throughout the season. A huge thanks to Jonathon McInroy who took on the Premier team and Rudi Bischoff for assisting with the bowlers, there was always a positive attitude in achieving small goals each game and not putting too much emphasis on needing to win within the season. Team morale was incredible, and all girls have the ability and skills needed for the grade. The Premier team was well supported by a very young but talented Premier Reserve team with several players getting the opportunity play when requested. Our thanks for making yourselves available when asked. The team s goal is to produce more consistent performances and if we can improve this in 2018/19 we should be far more competitive within the grade. 45 MEN S PREMIER RESERVE GRADE Captains: Tom Talbot & Sam Fastier Coach & Scorer: Roy Goodyear Coach/Scorer Roy Goodyear SkippersTom Talbot & Sam Fastier Sam holding the fort late in the season COACH ROY GOODYEAR REPORTING: Upon reflection of the recently ended season, I feel we, the Premier Reserve team, can be happy with the outcome. As coach I felt that, at the start of the season, moving up to the top grade of the Reserve division would be challenging and that to finish half way up the ladder in both formats (as we eventually did) would be a good outcome. It is essential that we look to improve on this in the coming season. This will certainly depend on the personnel we have available and to ensure that they are given every opportunity to develop. No excuses but, we lost our very successful opening attack from the previous season, Billy Sanger, K Phogat, Tom Urry, Will St John (Injury and University) and one of our spin twins Henk Conradie, along with them, Ryan Turner and to a large extent Simon Wood in the latter half of the season, experienced and proven players all of them. Making the outcome of the season a little nervy at times!! BUT to me, the above proves the determination of all the many players who played in the side over the season and they must all be congratulated for their effort in the final analysis. It is this resilience that should be an integral part of Parnell Cricket through all the teams and throughout the season!! Leadership: Both Tom Talbot and Sam Fastier proved more than capable captains and leaders in their respective matches at the helm and offered plenty with the bat in our middle order along with some outstanding fielding. Batting: Will Ormiston had a very good season with the bat once he was introduced at the top of the order and I feel sure that he will go on to higher honours in the not too distant future. Post Christmas; it was great to have Cam Gibbons, former NZ U19 player, return to the game after a 2 year break and move to Parnell from the Counties/ND set up. Callum Douglas showed signs of is class at the top of the order before going off to Uni. Giacomo Lamplough, after his sojourn in Hong Kong, ended the season as one of Will Ormiston opening partners and proved a reliable top order batsman and, with his medium pace bowling and excellent fielding thrown in, looks the goods for the season ahead. Bowling: The evergreen Rudi Bischoff proved what experience can do when his days of pace were just behind him bowling consistently as an opening bowler. Our new find of the later half of the season, Simon Walker, who produced fine attacking spells of bowling by keeping the ball up to the batsmen, producing two 5 wicket hauls in the last 3 games of the season. Special mention to Razin Bharde, who never gives anything less than his best in all aspects of the game bowling, fielding, batting and his verbal s on the field!! Hamish Robertson was the pick of the bowlers during his time in the Reserves, bowling as an opener at times, taking regular wickets including a fine 7 wicket haul against Eden Roskill. Keeping: Alex Grimes served us very well behind the stumps, in addition to scoring the Team s only ton, but unselfishly handed over the gloves to Harry Miller. This late January when Harry arrived following AGS and Auckland U19 duties. To include a reflection on every player would make this report a novel!! However, each and every player, including those who on occasions missed out on selection for the Prem side, always gave of their best and added to the positive culture within the side. A special thanks to the four Poms Joe Gray, Alex Grimes (mentioned earlier) Cam Willis and Elliot Foster, they were outstanding pro s for the Club and the Prem Reserve side. From a coaching perspective, they were easy to work with and made personal sacrifices for the betterment of the Club. Gentlemen each of them. 47 WOMEN S PREMIER RESERVE GRADE Captains Lexy Bassett and Ella Lambert Coach Jonathan McInroy and Manager Tom Bassett MANAGER TOM BASSETT REPORTING: The Parnell Premier Reserve Women had a great 2017/2018 season. Highs and lows in terms of results, but great strides in terms of experience at the senior level. Over the course of the season 19 players turned out for the team. The team sheet for any particular match depended on the requirements of sharing players with the Premier and Under 15 teams. In spite of the uncertainty this sometimes caused, the players developed a great team spirit, and worked together well out in the middle. The team was a young side, and third place finishes in both the T20 and Limited Overs competitions was a commendable result. With the ability and potential of the players in the team, the prospect is there for higher achievement next season. Highlights of the season included: Emily Drumm (New Zealand s only World Cup winning captain) on the team sheet, with her nieces Ella Drumm and Nellie Drumm-Owen, in a T20 match against Cornwall before Christmas A fantastic all-round effort against Limited Overs competition leaders (and previously unbeaten) Cornwall, including a six by Ella Drumm to deliver the win, which showed the side what is its potential The development of players at the junior level, gaining experience at the higher grades. Individual player s performances of note: Emma Irwin, over 400 runs in the season (456 at an average of 45.6) Seven fifties: Emma Irwin (89 not out, 82 not out, 56 not out and 50), Hetali Patel (73), Renée Macmillan (70 not out), and Lexy Bassett (52 not out). THIRDS - SENIOR 4 th GRADE Captains: Elliot Jaffe then Rowan Smith ACA Limited Overs (50/50) Senior 4 th Grade 4 Champions Skippers Elliot Jaffe and Rowan Smith Elliot handing over to Rowan on his elevation to Reserves Coming in fresh off promotion and an undefeated 2016/17 season, the Thirds were tasked with gaining promotion from the Fourth Grade' division to the Third Grade.' Many changes in personnel, especially within our top six made this prospect challenging. Unfortunately, we did not achieve this goal, finishing 4th overall, despite winning the one-day competition. One-Day Cricket Beginning the season with three one-day fixtures we suffered a close defeat to Grafton, an emphatic win over Auckland University, and an abandoned match to Papatoetoe. From there, resounding victories against Takapuna and Birkenhead plus a closely contested tied game with the old enemy East Coast Bays set up the last fixture well for us to achieve success in this competition. The final match was abandoned due to rain, resulting in the Thirds producing an incredible 3rd consecutive winning season in this format by a narrow 0.06 points. This was a well-deserved achievement for a well-oiled bowling and batting unit. Two-Day Cricket Life in two-day cricket started with a hiss and a roar for the Thirds, with a come from behind outright victory against Grafton, bowling them out for 58 in the second innings to set us up on a winning path. A narrow first innings victory against Auckland 48.

49 University and a very close loss to Papatoetoe saw us sitting in 3rd place going into Christmas. A straightforward first innings victory against Takapuna lifted us to 2nd before we were demolished by Birkenhead to leave our season hanging in the balance. Next up, an unbelievable outright win against East Coast Bays, where both teams were rolled for 49, 33, 136 & 135 respectively - gave us an outside sniff of promotion going into our last fixture. Unfortunately, rain played spoilsport, resulting in a draw v Suburbs placing us 4th in the Two Day competition. A disappointing season in this format, where our batsmen failed to make a meaningful impact. Players of note Rory O'Brien After cementing himself as a bowler last season, his batting has improved markedly, and no doubt will become the rock of our batting order next season. Luke O'Toole Playing his first full season in three years, and as an opening batsman Luke achieved success at the top of the order to finish the season as our leading run scorer. Elliot Jaffe Coming in for another season, Elliot enhanced his reputation as the thirds chief seam bowler with another impressive wicket and economy tally for 2018/19, finishing as the leading wicket-taker. Simon Walker TheThirds meaningful impact this season can be attributed to Simon, with a feisty bowling persona and a world-class work ethic, this has been Simon's best season at the club. Despite failing to achieve promotion to the promised land of four-piece cricket, we had a bloody good time playing cricket and overall have grown substantially closer as a squad compared to any other seasons in the past. Special mentions must be paid to Trotty, Roy, and Phil who continually coached us throughout the season. Once again, Sean Milne must be mentioned, who as a supporter did not miss a game, while also taking up the mantle of team nurse when many became injured in battle. Even with a couple of men down in the first game we hit the game running winning by 70 runs. Unfortunately the next couple of One Day games were washed out. We then entered the Two Day games and scored what we though was a competitive 190 on a slow low wicket however when we returned for the second days play we found a brand new, bouncy wicket waiting for us and our opponents had a number of ring-ins who put on 286. In the next couple of games we had an out-right win and a first innings win before we returned to the One Dayers leading into the Christmas break. These wins knocked Suburbs off the top of the table as Lance Pooley scored his maiden century for us. In the New Year we continued our strong showing in the One Dayers winning a further two matches and having the final match washed out again. We headed back into the Two Dayers on a new high after strong batting and bowling performances from all players in the team. This saw us win one game then, when we had four players down, we bowled too loose and batted badly. Then, sadly, our final two matches were won by us by default which was not the way we wanted to finish our season. Summing up, it was a successful season as we finished the One Day competition without loosing a game and came in second, 4.4 points behind the winner. In the Two Dayers we also finished in second spot just 2.3 point behind the winner. Overall we were placed 3rd, scoring points only 3.31 behind the winner. Away from the wicket we have built a strong core team which, I feel, welcomes new players into the team. Since the season ended we have caught up socially on more than one occasion to enjoy a beer or two. Winter training has already started for the Fourths with the determined aim to win the 2018/19 competition. ONE DAY 4A PARNELL HITMAN SUNDAY 1B T20 PARNELL POUNDERS PRESIDENTS GRADE Captains: Neil MacCulloch A fine body of men about to celebrate, in the appropriate manner, their 10 wicket win over the Cavaliers [Not all other games went quite so well to plan Ed.] The top team at PCC had another prolific season winning nearly as often as they lost. Finding consistent top order batsmen proved a challenge after losing several of the professionals to time off for repairs. Bowling proved more reliable with the three quicks ; Grenade O Gorman, Rifle Robbo, and Machine Gun James keeping the opposition jumping. Fielding was exemplary as usual with several amazing catches dropped. Specialist cover Jonty Eddowes once again proved his value when dollies came his way. The highlight of the season was the captaincy with the newby Leader Laycock, who stepped into the breach when injuries and defections happened all around him. It was a pleasure to be captained by one so young yet so calm in the face of such adversity. First change Bowling made some of the regulars into stars with Montego Bay Monteiro stepping up with some fine spells and Shorty Smith proving that a ball that swings both ways can beat even the best of batsmen. Robert E Lee started well but was enticed to greener pastures to the north before really hitting his straps. 54.

55 The art of spin was dominated by skipper MacCulloch and weatherman Nicol. JN proved that understanding weather and pitch conditions is vital on Auckland s difficult artificial surfaces. Keeping was left to our resident national keeper early season but unfortunately after he was enticed to the big money in the English county league the gloves were passed around. Weatherman s bowling skills impacted his availability as keeper but after relinquishing the ball he proved, after a smoke, he could catch anything. Monty proved very effective behind the stumps especially considering he was faced with such a wide ranging array provided by the Quicks. Our openers when they fired were a real threat to opposition attacks. Softball Davies when not on babysitting duties dispatched home runs in all directions. Leader Laycock topped the averages after several solid captains knocks regularly holding the top order together. Flyer Lindberg pre injury didn t muck around. The singles are too much hassle approach proved highly entertaining but not for long enough. Fortunately some fine middle order batting saved disaster on several occasions. Legal Andrews took his opportunities when offered and stamped his mark on an openers spot. Maculick, Macca, Tapper and Weatherman all had to stand fast in the middle of catastrophic collapses. Rifle Robbo stepped confidently into the breach and proved that we now have an effective all rounder. Machine Gun James dispatched the Bowling to all corners but the aerial route was often not a long term solution. New recruit JJ reduced the average age profile considerably and proved more youth with ball, bat and in the field is sorely needed. The recruitment campaign will need to be stepped up next season. If you are 35 and reading this PCC Presidents needs you! A very entertaining season where the results on the field didn t quite reflect the preparation, application and practice put in by the guys. 69 SIXTY YEARS AGO 1957/58, A GOOD YEAR REMUERA PARNELL SPORTS CLUB - SECONDARY SCHOOLBOYS A TEAM Winners EDCA Schoolboy Champs. 1957, Runners-up ACA Junior Champs 1957/58 John Weir, Doug Dempster, Ross Stevenson, Peter Coote Michael Braham, John Savory, Mr Colin McMillin (Manager), John Kelso, Graham Cowan Bryan Haggitt, Mr Alan Brown (Manager), David Moir (Capt.), Alan Graham (V. Capt.), Mr Ken McKellan (Pres.), Roy Schnauer Prince Panchia and Geoff Caisley are absent from the photo. The team kept solidly together for some 4 seasons and life long friendships were formed. Adult involvement was minimal and most went on to make their mark in the administration of the game: John Weir became a notable cricket administrator in Hamilton including chairing Sport Waikato Graham Cowan became a 1 st Class Umpire and was President, and a Life Member, of the NZ Umpires and Scorers Assn David Moir still umpires in Dunedin and is Secretary of the Otago Umpires and Scorers Assn Alan Graham is a Life Member of the Karori CC as Bryan Haggitt is of Parnell CC Ken McKellan, Alan Brown, Colin McMillin and Roy Schnauer all became Life Members of the Remuera Parnell Sports Club and then, the latter three, were Life Members of Parnell CC following RPSC s merger with PCC in the 1970s. EASTERN DISTRICT GRADE CHAMPIONS 1957/58 PARNELL RED John Boden, Ken Dickey, Wally Tanner, Roy Schnauer, Charlier Melville Bos D Anvers, Ray Woolley, Peter Badley (Capt.), Ian Robinson, John Weir Michael Harrison, Les Grace Absent: Alan Lonergan, David Harrison, Les Pinnegar The Eastern Districts Grade was a social grade. Parnell fielded 3 teams, Reds, Whites and Blues, and played sides from elsewhere in Eastern Districts Orakei, Tamaki, Ellerslie and St Heliers. Anyone who wanted a game played - Parnell s sides were a mix of old and young of the Reds, Peter Badley, Alan Lonergan, Ray Woolley and Wally Tanner had all played Senior/Premier grade, John Weir, Roy Schnauer, Les Grace and Michael Harrison were still at school. Les Grace was the quickest schoolboy bowler of his time. The cricket played was competitive and and no quarter was given by or to the opposition. Jack Forsman captained the Blues, his brother, Bill,the Whites, and it was serious stuff! And a great experience for a youngster huge opportunity to play hard, learn from some stern taskmasters and to enjoy the banter from people who really played for the love of the game

A. - Parnell CC s Miss Alison Hall 4 th Test, NZ vs. England, Eden Park, Feb Parnell CC s Championship Winning Senior XI of 1929/30 - Miss Alison Hall, Scorer, is in the middle row 3 rd from left. Alison Hall s fiancée (and future husband) Paul Whitelaw is standing directly behind her Paul Whitelaw went on to play both Tests vs England in 1932/33 butdespite winning the Redpath Cup in both 1934/35 and 1936/37., was inexplicably omitted from the New Zealand team to UK War intervened but he returned to play for the Club till 1948/49. Steven Lynch, in a recent article in cricinfo explains: This is quite a big subject, so this week I'll just address this one question, but with a longer than usual answer. The identity of the official scorers in Tests and other internationals has not always been well documented, and there are some big gaps in our knowledge despite the best efforts of cricket statisticians. The following is the best we know at the moment - but there might just be earlier examples lurking somewhere! Until recently it was thought that the first woman to be one of the official scorers in a Test match was the Queenslander Shirley Crouch (née Wilson), who had the good fortune to be keeping the book during the first Tied Test, between Australia and West Indies in Brisbane in However, more recently Charles Davis, the indefatigable Melbourne statistician, spotted an entry in the scorebook for New Zealand's maiden Test series, against England in , kept by the famous scorer/baggage master Bill Ferguson, who "made 43 tours over 52 years and never lost a bag", according to Wisden. In the space set aside for the names of the scorers for the fourth Test in Auckland, "Fergie" had written "WF [himself] and Miss A. Hall". Francis Payne, the scarcely less fatigable New Zealander who edits their cricket annual, confirmed this was Alison Margaret Hall (born October 15, 1910; she died in 2004). Hall later married Paul Whitelaw, who appeared in two Tests for New Zealand against England in , and played for the Parnell club in Auckland, where she did the scoring. Hall was described as "A Lady Enthusiast" in Tom Reese's New Zealand Crickethistory: "Miss A. Hall, who holds a unique record She became interested in cricket in 1924, when she played for Auckland Diocesan College... She scored for Auckland against North Auckland, Easter 1927, and has been scoring continually for Parnell Senior XI since 1927 scored beside the famous Ferguson in the Test match, New Zealand v MCC, in Auckland in 1930 helped to compile the records for the Auckland Roll of Honour on the walls of Eden Park's cricket pavilion keeps for the Auckland selectors the club cricket scores of all players selected for practice for Auckland representative teams." The Auckland Star added that she was "as accurate as the master clock at Greenwich".
