1 April 2018 Issue #297 President s Chatter April is almost gone and I already have a few short rides under my belt with my 31 Tudor and a couple of shorter runs with my 28. I drove the 28 Leather Back before taking it apart. Now it's almost put back together with alot of help from WAC Custom's (Bill Carlson). He did a swapping out of the multi disk clutch along with the fly wheel and transmission. Since I was having a busy winter with work and tinkering with two Model T's I just had no space or time to work on the 28. So we are hoping for a good touring season and I hope we get more participation.! Hope to see you this week on Tuesday, April 24th for our monthly meeting. Travel 2.5 miles on Rt. 118 to Bentley Drive. Take a right onto Bentley Drive, the Library is a half mile on the left. 2 Minutes of Northwestern CT A s Meeting Tues., March 27, 2018 Harwinton, CT Meeting Called to Order at 7:51 pm by our President, Don Bruno. Guests: None Secretaries Report: Minutes of the Feb. 27, 2018 meeting were read. Correction: Under New Business, the Model A Exhibit will be with the Litchfield Hills Historical Auto Club - Goshen Car Show, being held at the Goshen Fairgrounds. Treasurer s Report: Read and Accepted. Membership: 23 members Cheers: None Video Library: Dave Habersang has provided a booklet that shows titles of club videos which can be helpful on methods and tips to restore your car. This is a lending library. Use it. Club Apparel: You can still get garments; see Don Bruno. If you want to have your own shirt or jacket embroidered with our logo, just let Don know. He ll direct you to where this is done. Website: It is reported that it is up-to-date. That is also where you can find the latest RunningBoard Newsletter, as well as previous ones. Old Business The upholstery meeting that was in Oakville on March 14 th and was very informative. It was well attended by LHHC, Auto Memories and our club. Owner; Mark proceeded to strip a car seat and recover it to perfection. Mark and his wife hosted. There was pizza, snacks and soft drinks. New Business Technical: There was much discussion on the Model A Exhibit scheduled with the LHHC at the Goshen Fairgrounds in August. The 90 th Anniversary of Ford will be showcased there this year. They expect 10 or more Model A cars which can be placed inside the building or outside. It is expected that set-up will take place the day before. Tours: April 22 nd Dust-Off Tour by Don Bruno, more on this later. May 6 th First Sunday in May tour to Rhinebeck, NY May 27 Limerock Show June? Stratford, Airplane restorations & Whitehead Replica (first to fly in 1901) July Jacobs Garage in Falls Village; Dennis Gage My Classic Car expected to be there. Aug 19th LHHC 90 th Anniv. of Ford at Goshen Fairgrounds. Dave Habersang showed a video of restoring a front end including wishbone, axle straightening and alignment, bushing replacement, fitting kingpins and tie rod connecting. Dave showed his own spindle that he is restoring. Nick Nesci showed a Tire Changing Box he made and demonstrated how a wheel with hubcap can be protected when you change tires. There will be specs and pictures in the next newsletter. 5 Northwestern CT Aʼs Tour, to see the Whitehead #21 Airplane Replica First to Fly in 1901 Come Join us on a trip to Stratford, CT to see some very interesting planes at the Army Engine Plant; 550 Main St. Stratford. The Gustav Whitehead plane flew 2 yrs before the Wright Brothers plane. See the Whitehead Replica, WW2 Chance Vought Corsair being restored, Jet Engines, the factory where the Corsairs were built and the stories that go with it. View a 10 minute video. Date: Saturday, June 23, 2018 Admission is $9 pp Meet at Dunkin Donuts in Harwinton, across from the town hall. Leave at 9am - Go in modern cars (car pool) We need to be there 10am. When we get in Stratford, weʼll meet in their parking lot, then go to the Guard Shack and meet our host, Andy Kosch, project director, for the tour. 10 MAFFI MINUTE April 2018 What s New at the Museum? There has been some recent redecorating in the Parts Department of the Museum.! There had been a donation of 4 framed color drawings and John Marshall was inspired by those to recreate the New signs as seen in the photos.! Once those were done, they were hung alongside the donated drawings, reframed and looking like the original pictures.! We are always striving to keep our museum fresh and new for those returning to the museum for another look and especially for those who are coming for the first time.! If you have been thinking about a trip to the museum, why not make plans to join us for Model A Day, September 15, 2018.!!If you can t make it for Model A Day, the museum is open 7 days a week.
