2 CARTER S COMMENTS Carter s Comments For twenty-five years Greenacres has been providing educational opportunities to the Greater Cincinnati community. The first step to establishing Greenacres was to listen to our Founders, Louis and Louise Nippert, and convert their interests the environment, sustainable agriculture and the arts into a program that would benefit the community. The focus rapidly became children who could learn about their interests and develop appreciation for them. On the surface this seemed an easy task that had been done many times before. There were places that taught about the environment, agriculture and the arts and did it very well. What set Greenacres apart then, and to this day, is not what we teach, but how. Each class is individually tailored to the needs of the classroom teacher and then the activities are built around the standards required by the State of Ohio. This approach has generated some wonderful results over the past 25 years, with many classes coming for a first lesson and then returning year in and year out to use the talents of Greenacres staff and their educational approach of responding to the needs of the visitors. What is learned by our staff about the challenges of education in the school year always finds its way into our summer camps. We maintain the same commitment to quality and to the children who attend that we have for the schools that visit. Each camp topic has resulted from someone asking if we can help teach a concept using the many assets of Greenacres woods, fields, cattle, gardens, kitchens, equine, greenhouse, poultry, manure, ponds, streams and the Arts Center. Our staff takes the school year topics and converts them from education to edutainment a lot of fun for the children while sneaking in a few lessons about the world in which we live. Over the past twenty five years Greenacres has grown and changed, added topical areas and explored new approaches to hands-on education. Greenacres has been innovative, effective and very focused on providing the best experience a visitor can have. This year s summer camps reflect the experience of our staff and the wonder that we experience each day when we walk a trail, hear a song, ford a creek, plant a seed or watch a calf be born. That wonder is what makes Greenacres so special. We hope you choose to send your camper off to explore all that Greenacres has to offer and watch as their eyes open to new visions and their hearts and minds gain another way to look at the world around us. Carter Randolph Greenacres President
