An undermanned under 18s team stuck to a plan and showed glimpses of improvement and are sure to have some success if they continue to improve. The 2nds again were undermanned but too showed some glimpses that they re improving. The seniors were in the game at half time but were let down by a poor 3rd quarter and ended up no match for Sommy. Despite the loss there were positives with young Dean Kairies making an impressive debut. When you see Waide Symes running around there s some talent in the on ball division for Crib Point in the next 10 years with Dean and Waide being 16 and 17 years old respectively. They will also be representing Crib Point in the Interleague for Congrats to both. Today we welcome the Yabbies to the Nest and we re a real chance to deliver some sneaky wins today, especially if we manage to be as sneaky as Peeping Tim Beech outside a window of a spare bedroom at his own house. That s pretty sneaky, sneaky enough to catch people off guard anyway. Good luck to all footballers and netballers today, let s use today to make some big strides forward. Our first official function for the year is also being held next week at the rooms after the Pearcedale game on 15th May. Ladies Night is always a great evening, make sure you get along, especially you PB, you never know mate, a few unsuspecting ladies could be looking for a young, strapping, single CHB to carve some shapes into a Cruze Club dance floor with. $10 entry for blokes, women are free. Get along; it ll be a good night. Thanks to Brian Victor ( Jezza ) for sponsoring our unders last week, as well as Dave Evans for his driving lesson sponsorship. Good luck to all sides today CAIRNS Mark DUNNE Rob

We have to carry on the momentum this week when we travel to the Nest and take on Crib Point. It is always a hard place to take 4 points away from, so we have our work cut out for us. Last week the ones put in a gritty performance to prevail over a plucky Hastings side by a goal, and take the George Slocombe trophy home for the first time. We were a little bit down on past weeks, but considering the tricky conditions and only one on the bench from half time onwards it was a notable victory. If the boys keep playing this brand of committed team football then we will be in for a very exciting year. The seconds opened up their account for the season in what was a scrappy game of football. We ended up getting over the line by less than a kick, but used our get out of jail free card to do so. Again there was improvement on the previous weeks, but need to listen and follow the coaches instructions more if we are to play the football that we are capable of. The 18 s put in the best performance of the day in which they easily accounted for Hastings. The boys have been improving week by week and should take a lot out of a well deserved result. Kicked away early and did not look back, playing a good brand of team football which will be competitive with anyone. Function: Mothers day lunch at the club on the 15th May. The senior team s learning curve suffered a serious reverse upwards trend mauled by sharks was the headline, the smell of blood sent the SORRA S into a scoring frenzy. With smaller bodies, the inconsistency of youth we expect the occasional loss, it s called education, and last season about the same time and in the same place we got taught a similar lesson. We finished rd a game behind last weekends opponents. It s early days, so let self belief and spirit be the key ingredients from here on in. History lessons are not the order of the day and going forward is what development is all about, just keep at it and things can turn around very quickly. Kyle s comrades discovered that standing a little closer to your opponent and running straight at the ball worked in their favor. Lapses of concentration nearly proved costly and the Finnegan snap in the closing minute was the get out of jail free card we had been looking for, in a word LUCKY. The under s played chasing all day never troubling the scoreboard or the statistician, it s a worrying thing, lack of numbers coupled with lack of experience, but if everyone connected to club started hunting for some players then we d get competitive, Keep your heads up boys, some of you will one day play senior football and the club is right behind you in that pursuit. To finish on a high, the dashing darlings of the tarmac clocked up a resounding victory to continue their unbeaten streak. Thank god for netball! The Big Raffle is up and running so get your ticket now. Pay your subs and clear the debt on socks and shorts. Club apparel is available from Teresa Baker. Today we play host to Pearcedale footy and netball teams and hope to see you all in the rooms after the games. The Club has also invited past players (including a reunion of the 1970 premiership team) to attend the games and hope you all have an enjoyable day reliving past glories. I m sure the stories will get bigger and better as the day rolls on. Have a super day and get behind our current group as they go for 3 in a row. Last week the one s dug deep in the last quarter to get the win, which was great, but there is a lot of room for improvement so today would be a good time to start that. The two s were very disappointing. You can cop a loss when everyone is having a go, but that s not happening. Today however I expect a positive approach and a team that tries its guts out. It has to be TODAY. The unders just can t seem to put four quarters together, not many teams win with only 2 or 3 good ones, so we ll have four today thankyou! The netballers seem to have got their collective Mo jo back with the B team having their first win and the Premier team back on a roll. See you all in the rooms after the match. CHEERS I.C. The best bit though is coming back refreshed and injury free and ready to chalk up another win. Down to Rosebud today so good luck to all sides, after the game make sure you get yourself back to the club tonight for the $1000 draw to assist with the war wounds of Lieutenant Besley. Injured in battle he needs some support so head back for an ale and hopefully win the prize, and if you can t make it get a ticket and win the cash anyway. Congrat s to Shauny Palmer on winning the slabs in joker jackpot, with the Hawks in their current form he s donated enough slabs to others and certainly deserved em. Any Eagle fans looking for free slabs see Shauny for a wager. Against Hastings the sheds were rocking as the locals got into full voice and helped get the seniors home in the main game. A fantastic atmosphere and a better result as Bas and Wiz dominated up forward, and Scotty, Dicko, Daymon and Pup won the middle. The Reserves and under s continue to battle but went down. The ladies again showed the way and this time both teams had wins, get over and yell a bit of support today as they are part of the club and are certainly off to the best start of all the teams. Next week they ll all be supporting the club as they flock on mass and bring plenty of the female kind to the annual ladies day. Don t forget to tell the other half boys and make sure that it s well attended, it s a great chance to get the missus involved so tell her about it and make sure she enjoys the drinks, food and entertainment, see Karen tonight for a ticket. 9 Nepean Netball Welcome to round 5, and what a good round it s going to be! Looking back on my predictions for last week, we were right on the money for who was going to win in round 4. All of the winners for the round ended up winning by 7 or more goals, with the three top teams once again smashing their victims. The weather, although not the warmest, for Saturday s games was sunny and there wasn t enough wind to make it hard for the teams with passes or shooting. In the A grade there was a couple of changes to the ladder after round 4, Crib Point and Hasting have both moved down, with Dromana and Rosebud moving up and taking their 5th and 6th positions. The B grade ladder has also had a few swaps and changes after the weekend; Edi-Asp and Rye still hold first and second positions, but Pearcedale, Rosebud and Frankston all moved up the ladder, leaving a few distinct changes in the order. Dromana vs Frankston - A win each way Dromana and Frankston battled it out on Saturday at Dromana s home ground, and just by looking at the scores, we can see it would ve been close in both games. The A grade match saw Dromana win by 7 goals, giving them enough points to jump from 8th to 5th on the ladder. Unfortunately for Frankston they have stayed where they were, but they re due for some wins as they have played most of the top teams in the first 4 rounds. Frankston B grade were able to come away with a win, MP SPORTS PHYSICIANS Specialists in Sport and Exercise Medicine Club, TAC Cup, VFL, AFL football All other sports Medicare rebates Close relationship with local physios, GPs and surgeons CAMS Medical examinations Mornington 130 Tanti Avenue Ph: Frankston 1/20 Clarendon St Ph: The Peninsula s sports medicine specialists Dr Leesa Huguenin Dr Greg Harris MBBS M.SpMed FACSP MBBS (Hons) FACSP CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Club A B Total Tyabb Edi - Asp Rye Pearcedale Rosebud Crib Point Hastings Dromana Frankston Red Hill Sorrento 0-0 taking the Dromana B graders down by 15 goals. The win for the b grade has definitely helped them move up a couple places, but also has dropped Dromana s position by one place. Both sides look more finals promising in the A grade, but as mentioned, Frankston should get a couple more wins on the board with Hastings and Sorrento coming up. Dromana should win easy against Red Hill, but then they re up against Rye and Tyabb, who might leave them on the ladder where they are. Rosebud vs Red Hill - Two wins puts Rosebud in the top 6 Rosebud hosted Red Hill for round 4, but didn t give the away team any chance for a win in either grade. In the A grade Rosebud won the game by 30 and in the B grade by 26, a fair win from both A & B. Red Hill are still showing signs of struggle in both grades and their next few games are not going to be any easier for them with Dromana, Rye and Tyabb. Rosebud are showing they re going to be promising again this year, A & B in the top 6, and both have a good chance of moving into the top 4 after round 5 depending on their results against Pearcedale. Crib Point vs Edi-Asp - The outsiders seems just too good Edi-Asp lived up to expectations beating the Crib Point home teams in both the A & B grades. The A grade game saw Crib Point go down by 34, that type of loss does hurt, but the game was a lot closer than Edi-Asp s round 2 match results. Cribby s B grade went down by 49 goals, although a big difference between the two teams, the Crib Point girls need to remember at least they didn t go down by like 70 something goals. They still have plenty of chance to make finals in B. Crib Point are still getting news players joining and this may help them improve more and more over the season. Holly Adams and Pam Mckillop were awarded BOC by Cribby. Edi-Asp stay second in A and top in B grade, round 6 against Tyabb would be a day not to be missed! Since 1908 MPNFL 49

10 Nepean Netball Sorrento vs Rye - Sorrento help Rye get a 100% lead on 4th Poor Sorrento once again hosted another smashing against them, with Rye beating them by 81 goals. Although it is Sorrento s first year, it seems they really need some help in their netball department Over time the league are going to introduce a C grade and Juniors, Sorrento will definitely need to do a netball campaign in the next year or so to get enough players for two teams. Rye remains 3rd on the ladder, with now a 100% lead over 4th place Pearcedale. Rye will remain steady with Red Hill and Dromana in the next three weeks, but this week s game against Edi-Asp isn t as promising for them! Sorrento has the bye round 5. Hastings vs Tyabb - Another 50 something goal win to the Yabb s Tyabb added another two wins to the scoreboard for A and B grades, after defeating the home side Hastings last Saturday. Tyabb A grade are looking unstoppable for the season with big wins over all their oppositions. I m yet to get names of the key players getting Tyabb these big wins, but they ve definitely got something good going for them!! Hastings still have plenty of time to get some more wins on the board, as we are only up to round 5, but it s always disappointing to lose by such a margin. As mentioned earlier round 6 Edi-Asp will be a great test round for Tyabb, although I believe their A should win, Edi-Asp are going to be the only team other than maybe Rye that can come close to the top side. Hastings has Frankston and Rosebud in the next two weeks, both games could go either way in the A, but the B grade could possibly have a win. Hastings look set for a mid ranking all season, but they just need to take advantage of the games when playing some of the teams like Red Hill and Sorrento again in the second half of the season for percentage. Pearcedale - Bye round Pearcedale had a week off due to the bye. They ve got a few close games ahead including Rosebud, Crib Point and some harder games against Edi-Asp and Tyabb just round the corner. Pearcedale A grade have remained in 4th this week, but they really need to make sure they win some crucial games against Cribby and Rosebud to keep their spot in the top 4. The B grade should have two wins in the next coming weeks and keep their top 4 spot, they re looking like a top 4 contender for the season. Like the A grade ladder, there s a big gap between teams on the ladder, but some wins over the next few weeks will keep them up there. If you, a spectator or player, have any comments, views, opinions on games or teams, feel free to shoot them through to nepeannetters2010@hotmail.com by Monday midday after each round. Round 5 is going to be filled with a lot of close and ladder swapping matches, please make sure you show your club support and go over to see the girls battle it out from 12pm. 11 to leave us having to play short in the last half, just reminding you tall girls, numbers are still welcome. The A Grade game was blinder with the Lasses stepping up and really playing well as a team with Greeny giving coaching direction to the goalers and it proved our competitiveness with Annie moving out and to Nat, the goals really came with ease. At the other end our defence was faced with a larger than life goal shooting combination, but to their credit there was no giving in. I want to wish last years coaches award winner Ash a happy 21st and all the best for an enjoyable ladies day. Deefender EDITHVALE-ASPENDALE Last week our girls travelled to Crib Point and enjoyed the picnic atmosphere at the Crib Point courts. The B team were depleted by sickness but played well, with Chelsea B playing a great game across the centre. Jess was fantastic in goals while Sam & Sophie were very strong in defence. This week we welcomed Jaime, our travelling sports injury trainer, to the Eagles Nest! Jaime, who is studying occupational therapy was in demand before the start of the A grade game as she taped & rubbed down all the sore muscles. The girls reaped the benefit of Jaime s expertise & went on to win a tough game, where once again the scores were not indicative of the game. Georgia played a terrific game in goals, with great court play & accurate shooting and once again Holly dominated the centre, with Wendy ever reliable In defence. The U17 s won a close game against Somerville. The girls had to work hard all game as quite a few players were unavailable. Amongst the best were Ash & Issy in defence and Linnea in goals. I d like to thank our major sponsor MKA Stone Design, whose support the girls greatly appreciate! Also, last weeks Frankston International Player Award (Dinner for 2 to the value of $100),was won by Sam for her great game in defence & goals! Saturday nights function at the club was the place to be! It was great to see the girls embrace the theme - What you want to be when you grow up! Their costumes & party attitude certainly livened up Regents Park! Nepean Netball This week the look forward to welcoming Rye to Jubilee Park while the U17 s play Bruce Park. Good luck to all teams. Go Eagles!! ROSEBUD What a great day the Rosebud girls had last Saturday. Not only was the sun shining but so were both netball teams. Our B girls had a terrific win against a gallant Red Hill The girls really seemed to gel and from the sidelines it looked like they d been playing together for years. They should be pleased with themselves for the first win of the season! The A girls got the 4 points with quite a convincing win It was hot out on the court but so were the Rosebud girls. We tried some changes with some defensive players going into attack and vice versa. This shows the flexibility and strength of the girls. We were pleased with the positives to come out of the game! Today we take on Pearcedale at home and we ask that people come down and support us, its only 5 mins down the road at Eastbourne PS.. Both teams are welcome back to the club for our Past Players Day. Come down and enjoy a drink after the game. CRIB POINT Last week we welcomed Edithvale-Aspendale down to Crib Point. It was an awesome effort by Crib against an A-mazing 2 sides. The B team went down 8-57, with Holly Adams best on with a great second half in defence. The A team also found the going tough losing Our newest recruit, Pam McKillop was best on with a fantastic game in defence. This week we welcome the Yabbies to the nest. A must win game for both teams, to cement their positions in the four. Don t forget Ladies Night this Saturday evening, which includes free entry, free ticket for raffle prizes and a glass of Champagne upon arrival. Lets get everyone down to training this week. 12 Nepean Netball RYE The Rye girls travelled down to a sunny Sorrento. The girls, while strong where not at full strength, winning comfortably 86 to 5. With Ellen scoring 29 goals in one half of netball in the goal circle, Emma scored 30 goals in 3 quarters of netball, and Assunta chipped in with 19 goals in her half on court. The mid courters of Lucy, Heidi, Charlie and the defense of Trish, Casie and Amy starved Sorrento of nearly ever opportunity they had in scoring. An excellent effort by all the girls. This week we play Edi-Asp at Jubilee Park Frankston, who are also undefeated after 4 rounds. Both clubs have started the season very well and the Rye girls are looking forward to competing against another unknown club. All the best girls. Happy birthday to Lucy, Emma and Trish. TYABB Last weekend was a major success for the Tyabb Football and Netball Teams! Of the 5 wins available at Hastings we managed to close out all of them with a win! As Stocko would put it, Its a RECORD!. Congratulations to both the A and B side last weekend. The B grade game was a fantastic game that was fought down to the wire, with the girls pulling through in the last quarter to win by 7 points. Big games had by Kat, Tina and Courtney in attack. The A grade game was a little bit more of a one sided affair but still was a great display of the game. Big games were had by Sarah Hose, Jemma Sanders, Katja Nemaric and we hope that Stubbsy recovers quickly from her injury. Today we take on Crib Point at Crib Point and look forward to both encounters, in two hard and fast games. On another note Kylie and Kat conquered one of their greatest fears by going on the Netball Radio show last Saturday morning. Thank you to the Pearcedale girls Diane and Mel for having us in. We encourage all other teams to get on board and help the girls out each Saturday morning and listen from 8am am on RRP. DROMANA With our third game at home, Dromana welcomed newcomers Frankston Bombers to the competition. Both sides took to the court and we had a successful win with the A s and a loss with the B s. The A game score was even at quarter time. At half time, Dromana were up by four points and three quarter time up by six points. The final result was Dromana 34 defeated Frankston 27. The B side put in a good effort and unfortunately the final margin was not in their favour. We need to remember that our B side are young and still developing and are the future of Dromana Netball. I am proud to say that they are courteous on the court and follow their coach s instructions closely. The final score was Dromana 11 defeated by Frankston 27. Our next game will be at Red Hill. 13 Casey Cardinia Preview Crunch game for Berwick THE season is only three rounds old but already there are a couple of finalists from 2009 being forced to sit in the room of mirrors and take a good hard look at themselves. Pakenham spent last weekend s bye doing just that and this week Berwick was shown that any thoughts of sailing through the home and away rounds and making the finals on the back of last year s improved performance was pure fantasy. Despite being without star goal kicker Ryan Donaldson, Beaconsfield beat the Wickers in every department last weekend, leaving Berwick in seventh position with one win and a percentage of a touch over 80. A good start to the season is crucial to every side but expectations at the Edwin Flack Reserve are high and there is only one course of action left and that is to start winning again. Of course that situation sets up this weekend s round beautifully and all eyes will be on how the Wickers react under the spotlight. The hurdle the Wickers face will be provided by fierce, in-form rival Narre Warren. Magpie coach Matt Shinners has educated rising young stars like Jackson Parker, Dylan Piening, Ben Wragg and Luke Tehennepe well over the past 12 months and again Narre Warren looms as a genuine grand final contender. Combined with the experience of Brett Evans, Glenn Hamilton, Steven Kidd and Daniel Field, the Magpies appear, on paper, to be the most balanced side in the league. Berwick don t need therapy or counselling or any cajoling, they just need a lift from every player across the board, starting with Grant Noonan, Jason Heath, Shaun Barnes and Jason Rahilly. The talent is there but, at present, the confidence is not. Playing at home at the Edwin Flack Reserve will be of absolutely no advantage to the Wickers against the Magpies given that Narre Warren regard it as their home away from home having won three premierships at the venue in the last four years. Both sides have multiple attacking options so it will be up to their midfielders to provide the opportunities. Berwick wins on height but Narre Warren simply has too many running rotations and consistently wear down opponents with persistency. That will be the case again this week and panic-stations may be called at Berwick on Saturday night. Keysborough has the chance to go to four wins from four outings and secure itself in the top five with a win over ROC at Starling Road. That said, the Kangaroos will be more than dirty on their start to the year and keen to, not only chalk up a win, but do it against a club that is being spruiked as a potential finalist. Kris Fletcher s side had that chance last week but when the heat was on after half time, let it slip despite the efforts of Ash Comer, Neil Adams, Ben Tivendale and Adam Reid. The Burra was also seriously challenged last week but the opposite was the result. Star centre half back Will Gayfer took control while John McMurray, David Prib and Matt Freeman lifted to lead the rejuvenated Burra to victory. That is an ominous sign for all opposition, let alone a side that is yet to taste a win. Again this will be a good contest early on, but again the Kangaroos will be unable to cover all Keysborough s match-winners when the heat is turned up later in the day. Doveton is back at home this week and Beaconsfield will take its turn at squaring the ledger after several years of domination by the Doves. The Doves three straight losses, while not unexpected, would have disappointed many followers given that patches of form in every game have shown signs of real promise and, at times, the brilliance that the Casey Cardinia League has come to expect out of the Robinson Reserve. Most of the excitement surrounds youngsters like Corey Phillips, Vergim Faik, Travis Hendy and Shaun Semmens. At Beacy the lid is about to pop off, whether they like it or not. A familiar swagger has re-emerged among the players and that s with due reason. Lachlan Oakley made the Since 1908 MPNFL 53

14 Casey Cardinia Preview most of his key role in attack last week, while the form of Mitch Collins, Andrew Williams and Daniel Mislicki has been superb from day one of the 2010 season. There are a few demons for Beaconsfield to conquer at the Robinson Reserve but, on form, they will do that with ease this weekend. Cranbourne travels to Hampton Park with consolidation on its mind. While Eagle supporters will be hoping for a percentage boost, nothing like that will have crossed Doug Koop s mind in the lead up. The Eagles are about the process required to win enough games to make the finals and that is exactly how they went about it last year. While the form of Damien Whitnall, Justin Berry, Ray George and Leigh Holt has been pleasing, nothing is being taken for granted at Casey Fields. Hampton Park is a frustrating side for its followers. The Redbacks got themselves into a position where they could force a win last week and then let it slip away. Leigh Morse has been a great pick-up and the form of Nathan Dawes, Ryan Simpson and Linden Fredericks has been solid, but winning is what counts and last week was disappointing. The Redbacks always lift in front of their home crowd but that passion will not be enough to overcome the pure class of the Eagles in the end. Tooradin and Pakenham matches have a great deal of tradition attached to them from the old West Gippsland days but that is probably where the competition will end this week. The Lions have had a shocking start to the premiership defence but nobody in the league is under any illusions that they will start winning soon and probably keep winning after that. With the looming reinclusion of big marking Nathan Leishout, John Atwell and Beau Wheeler, there is little doubt that the Lions will shake off their 2010 hangover. The Seagulls will be hoping that this week is not the one that sees that happen. Chad Liddell said at the start of the year that it would be one of education for his young side but it has already been harder than he would have predicted. Despite the efforts of Rohan Hyde, Beau Miller, Matt Davey and Ben Disney, the Lions will be far too strong on the day. Reserves HAMPTON Park reserves at home would be among the hardest games for any side in any season regardless of ladder position, and this weekend undefeated top dogs Cranbourne makes the trip to the Booth Reserve. The Redbacks have improved in both depth and skill this season and the Eagles will need to be on their game to maintain their perfect record. At the other end of the table ROC will be out to sing their song for the first time this year against Keysborough. The Burra will be a tough opponent however and their bigger, stronger bodies should prevail. The Berwick-Narre Warren clash will be typically physical with the speed of the Magpies giving them the edge in a close one. The other two games in round four should see comfortable victories to Pakenham over Tooradin and Beaconsfield over a young but inexperienced Doveton. Under 18s THIS year s under 18 competition is shaping as a most interesting battle and this weekend s clash between Berwick and Narre Warren will go a long way to determine which side is the biggest threat to top side Beaconsfield. The Magpies had a walkover on the weekend so the tip has to go with the Wickers on their solid exposed form. The other close game of the day will be fought out between Hampton Park and Cranbourne. The Redbacks are a significantly improved young side this year and have the opportunity to take a huge step with a home win over the Eagles. ROC will likely have a percentage booster against the young battlers from Keysborough, while Doveton, despite playing at the Robinson Reserve, will be no match for the might of unbeaten ladder leaders Beaconsfield. Pakenham will get the points with Tooradin yet to field an under 18s side in casey cardinia Tipsters Garry Howe Pakenham Gazette Sam Landsberger Media Darryl Nisbet SWGFL Legend Brad Kingsbury 3SER Rod Willshire MPNFL Director Narre Warren Beaconsfield Cranbourne ROC Pakenham 8 Narre Warren Beaconsfield Cranbourne Keysborough Pakenham 9 Berwick Beaconsfield Cranbourne Keysborough Pakenham 8 Narre Warren Beaconsfield Cranbourne Keysborough Pakenham 11 Narre Warren Beaconsfield Cranbourne Keysborough Pakenham 9 54 MPNFL Since 1908

Don t get too comfortable with the cup and shield as they are only on loan. As for us, only time will tell if we are capable of turning our fortunes around. Plenty for the selectors to mull over this week if they are to come up with the right combination for the Narre game. One from three is disappointing, one from four is unacceptable and everyone must be on their game this week. On a much brighter note, the two s win was one of the most celebrated for many years. The boys played four solid quarters of fast, entertaining footy with everyone contributing to a memorable victory. Robbie s 4 goal second quarter was inspirational. The boys are on a high and really want to continue their winning ways against the highly rated pies. Tony is it double or nothing this week? Goes to shows that winning three quarters doesn t guarantee a win. This young under 18 team will learn that you can t give opposition sides a seven goal start and expect not to struggle in pulling back such a large margin. We ve got to bounce back this week and play four consistent quarters. Today v Narre, both clubs are for the first time playing for the Pat Sweeney shield in honour of the late Mr W P Sweeney who served both clubs and the SWGFL for many years. The 3rds were put under a lot of pressure for the first time this year and now know how much they need to improve to match it with the top sides, going by Robs disappointment after the game the improvement will start on the track Tuesday night. The undermanned reserves battled hard again and there was certainly some improvement in their performance but were no match for the Cranbourne boys, just keep working fellas and more improvement will follow. The were bolstered by the return of Spanna & Matty and were excellent in the first quarter with the aid of a strong breeze but some wayward kicking cost us a lot bigger lead than we had which proved crucial as Cranbourne made the most of their chances with it in the second quarter, the 3rd quarter was our most disappointing as we let ourselves down in many areas and must improve on these in the coming weeks as we face some big challenges ahead, Congratulations to the Cranny boys who played some great footy and out classed our boys in the end. Local footy is alive and well with great days and rivalries like this. A great win also by the U18s, but the 2nds and Colts went down again Today we head to Doveton in what is always a tough encounter. They will be hurting from their start to the season and will with out a doubt give it their best to stop our good start to the season. This is not a game to take lightly. Also let s get back to the Central Hotel for a meal and drink to support another of our club s sponsors. Big congrats to Eddie Mullens who booted 9 goals. Best on went to Brydon Beckworth, Mitchell Nalty, Eddie Mullins, Aiden Whaler, Alan Timmerman and Brian Elliott. The two s notched up their second win for the season in a hard fought contest. Awards went to Jimmy, Tossa, Glenn, Milky, Cosi and Vonga. The ones had a harder time of it and could not shake off a more determined Keysie. Congrats to Dawsey, Morsey, Linden, Simo and Craig for standing up when it counted. Today we host Cranbourne at home in what will be three very tough games. Daniel Stevenson did not play last week so hopefully he will be out on the ground today for his 100th time in the Red and Black colours. A nice bloke both on and off the ground and one of the best marks at the club and in the comp. Congrats to Stevo and best of luck to him and all three teams today. Go Army!! Socially: Mother s day luncheon is on today, please see a committee member for more details. Next week is the much anticipated Sportsman Night. Guests include Wayne The Dominator Johnston, John Barnes and Damien Fleming. Tickets are $60 each which includes beer, wine, soft drinks and finger food. Get in quick and see Simo for tix. Sporting Memorabillia will be up for auction also. Wishing all the mums and my own, a very happy Mother s Day tomorrow. The Wench

While on Casey Fields the social rooms at pavilion Two and Three are coming along nicely and should be completed by end of June for our use some time in early July weather permitting on the subfloor. Another milestone this week sees the ever unflappable Daniel Snowy Tatham play his Fiftieth game for us today and if ever a kid was labelled perseverance this boy would own the word. Snowy has been in and out of the reserves team since coming out of the U/18 s in 2002 and with half seasons of missing out altogether on selection or to be just named emergency he never gave up hope of being selected and through sheer hard work has over the past few seasons played more than not. So to some better equipped players who take getting a game for granted, Snowy all of us at the footy club applaud your efforts, keep on improving, dream the dream and work to the 100 game club. Today Adam Wright should line up for his 150th game this weekend after being a late withdrawal last week due to his other pursuit in being a V8 Supercar mechanic. Next Home Game is a Sunday game hosting R.O.C - Football only, Netball to be played Saturday. The opposition seemed to play better against the wind, kicking 3 goals to 1 in the second to lead 6 goals 6 to 1 goal 3 at the main change. The second half was a similar result with the final margin being 55 points, Racing back to Devon Meadows to catch the Under 18 s play, I saw what looked was going to be a good battle with ROC just sneak ahead at half time by 2 points. The third quarter saw ROC kick against a very stiff breeze and hold Devon to 1 goal and still be up by 1 point at 3 quarter time. The last quarter the boys put the foot down with the wind and kick 5 goals to run away by 31 points. The Reserve were next up and after last weeks effort I thought we would have been better than what the first half produced, with the scores at half time 9 goals 4 to 2 goals. The second half saw a lot better effort, but fitness and playing against a stronger side all over the ground saw the opposition run away by an easy 73 points. The ran out and after last week and Greg Tivendale out I didn t know what to expect. The first half saw a completely different team, with ROC up by 7 points at the main change. The third quarter saw ROC with the wind but could only produce 1 goal and letting the opposition kick 4 making the task very hard in the last. The last quarter seeing the opposition run out, not so easy winners by 31 points. 25 KEYSBOROUGH Another win to the seniors making it 3 zip now, We don t loose at home! It was a slow tough game for the first half with both sides managing just one goal each, but after half time we decided to play footy like we should and kicked away to finish 20 points up. Great to see guys like Damo, Scanners and Prib all do their jobs. J Mack and Freo also played well. The two s were close all day but were beaten in the end by a more determined side, if you boys show some ticker the wins will come, You have a great side, it takes 22 players to work towards a win. Stop leaving it to the same few. The 18 s were looking good early with a quick goal but were beaten convincingly. Keep at it boys, be good to see a few more of you around the club Saturday arvo s. Tonight is ARMY night at the club, hoping to see some great uniforms. Cost is $10 entry or $15 if you re not dressed up. Come along for some dancing, games and a good time. Next week is Ladies day, $30 gets you lunch at 12pm, wine and champagne during the game, reserved seating and loads of fun activities through the day. 27 PAKENHAM The lions travel across to Tooradin this week to take on the seagulls in what looms as a very important match for the club. Although the team has performed ok in parts of the first two games we have played we have not been able to put four quarters together which has meant we have failed to bring home the points. it is hoped we will see the return of Anthony Young, John Atwell and perhaps Nathan Lleshout which will give the team a real lift. It is time this team stood up and made a statement as to where they are heading this season. In the meantime the reserves are going along nicely having won both there games in good style. They have a nice blend of youth and experience and are playing a good brand of football. Their performances are something the seniors could take notice of. It is hoped that they can continue this form on saturday. Our Under 18s have battled valiantly in their first two games but have run into very strong opposition. However to their credit the boys have persisted and with this sort of endeavour a win is just around the corner. Memberships are now available and are available at the Club on Tuesday and Thursday nights and at the gate on Saturday. $60.00 a single and $ a double (Join up now and support our great club). 29 Casey Cardinia Netball Last week was a picturesque day in Casey Cardinia for a game of Netball. It was not too hot, not too cold, just a bit of breeze and a lot of sun blazing through the few clouds that floated on by. Out in Narre Warren the Magpies took on the Seagulls for a battle that was truly all in the family. After all, three Booth sisters left the Seagull camp in 2009 to play at Narre, with Carly Booth going back to her original club Tooradin just this year. Emotions were running high, but the class of the Gulls shone through as they won the game in convincing fashion taking out the Maggie s by nearly 20 goals. Narre Warren are a club that still need a couple of years in the oven for their juniors to be classed as fully cooked but once that happens, watch out. Tooradin were always going to be too good here, but their game against Pakenham this week will be interesting to see. Further down the Princes Hwy, Beaconsfield took on the new look Berwick team at their home ground for the Battle of the Creek Cup. The Eagles got away to an early lead and never let the Wickers back into the game from the first whistle onwards. Berwick it seems, had one of its key goalers playing in the B Grade competition supposedly for disciplinary issues, so this game might just be tighter the second time around. Beaconsfield s center court dominated this game as they bounced back from their loss to the leagues new dominant team the Lions last week. Up the other end of the Princes Hwy, Keysborough stamped their dominance on the competition thrashing the Redbacks by nearly 20 goals on home turf. The Burra s are in form and had too much firepower all over the court for Hampton Park to have any influence on the game at all. The Parkers will be wanting to bounce back from this big loss when they take on Cranbourne this week in a game which is sure to be a close one for both of these clubs. Keysborough also have a harder game on their hands this week as they take on old rivals ROC down in Kanga land. Down greyhound country in Devon Meadows, the ROC girls took on the Panthers. ROC ex coach Nic Lady Gaga s Netball News CASEY CARDINIA FOOTBALL NETBALL SHOW Saturday mornings 8.00am am 8.00 am Netball with Mel Overdyk 8.20 am Football with Brad Kingsbury Robbins was made unavailable for the match, and the Panthers pounced on their chance to challenge the Kanga s. With Robbins out, ROCs attack end struggled to hit their stride and convert the many turn overs that their talented defenders won. The Panthers, sniffing a chance on home turf, looked dangerous all game but just couldn t convert their goals when it counted. It was a missed chance for the Panthers who could have scored their first ever win against the ROCers, but, it was not to be. ROC too good just won the game in a very low scoring 37 to 28. This week we have some classic matches on our hands. Firstly the Hampton Park versus Cranbourne game is sure to be one of the more hard hitting matches of the round. Both teams will be chomping at the bit to have their chance to gain their first four points of the season. Each team has a near even chance of winning. If Cranbourne fill their whole team, including Tara Cecil and Emily Wilson, I believe they will win this game on the dominance of each of those players up each end of the court. If either player is not available, the all over strength of Hampton Park will prevail and the Parkers will finish the game the victors. A close game, but I will pick the Redbacks to take it out by a mere 2 goals. The other game of the round will be the clash of rivals ROC and Keysborough who have been fighting it out in the finals series of recent years. Keysborough would have to be favorites to take out this match with their track record of late clearly convincingly stronger than ROC. ROC however are still a great team that are yet to reach their full potential together, and if Robbins is on song, she can be hard to beat. Keysborough will be able to dominate the center court in this game, and I believe have more of the ball because of this, and therefore more goals. Keysborough to take the game out by 5 in a nail biter. Berwick should account for the Magpies quite easily, and Pakenham will most surely continue their undefeated status and defeat Tooradin without the batter of an eye lid Since 1908 MPNFL 69

30 Casey Cardinia Netball My picks for the win are in bold below: Berwick def Narre Warren by 15 Hampton Park def Cranbourne by 2 Keysborough def ROC by 5 Pakenham def Tooradin by 15 Beaconsfield and Devon Meadows with the bye. Good luck to all teams this weekend and may the best team win. Signing off, Lady Gaga about Netball BERWICK Berwick MPNFL teams played Beaconsfield teams in an away round for the Battle of the Creek on Saturday. Some unexpected sunshine set the scene for what became a day of fantastic netball action with some late comebacks, close finishes and solid wins awarded to both clubs. Check out for the images that captured the day. A Grade - Both teams came out firing and set a very fast pace for the game. Berwick soon composed themselves with great mid-court drives and circles feeds from Sarah and Peta. As Beaconsfield delivered the ball into their goal circle at lightning speed, Berwick WD Tess Johnson applied pressure around the ring allowing Jodie and Julie to play tight circle defence. Beaconsfield began forcing the shot and Berwick won the rebounds and capitalised on the turnovers. Positional changes at half time saw Tara Anderson mix things up in Berwick s attack end. But, getting the ball into the circle proved tough for feeders as Beaconsfield s defenders didn t give Bianca and Mel much space to work with. Unfortunately Berwick s goalers were unable to convert from Beaconsfields s turnovers which meant Beaconsfield edged away. Berwick was able to draw lots of positives from playing such an experienced opponent. St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Sarah McDermott B Grade - Berwick anticipated a tough game against seasonal rivals Beaconsfield and the game did not disappoint with both teams scoring only eight goals a piece in the first quarter. Berwick lifted their intensity in the second quarter, gaining momentum and creating turnovers from defensive pressure. A lack of concentration towards the end of the quarter allowed Beaconsfield back into the game. Berwick came out firing in the second half with Jessica and Stef driving hard on to the circle and feeding the goalers well. A solid third quarter with strong goaling from Lynne and Virginia set up a well earned victory. St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Lynne Moyes CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Club A B C Total Pakenham ROC Berwick Beaconsfield Narre Warren Hampton Park Keysborough Tooradin Doveton Cranbourne D Meadows & Under Gold Tooradin (34) v Narre Warren (15) Team P W L D B F Agst % Pts Tooradin Pakenham Narre Warren Berwick Hampton Park C Grade - C grade faced their toughest challenge to date against Beaconsfield playing catch up netball for the first half of the game. Composing themselves, Chloe began providing strong drives and feeds through the centre and Leeanne used her experience to control and settle the attack end. After half time the team hit some form, Cassie upped the anti and proved effective in the goaling end while the defenders continued applying pressure in the goal ring. Berwick took the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter, the team went about their business securing their place in the game. Unfortunately a canine distraction saw the team become unsettled and begin to lose their hold on the game resulting in a close and disappointing loss after a hard fought match of quality netball. St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Cassandra Krylov. Under 17 - Berwick got away to a flying start against a tenacious Beaconsfield in their round three clash. Strong defensive pressure and rebounding by Berwick s defenders created plenty of positive possessions for the mid court to feed our tall timbers in the goal circle who converted accurately. Berwick had a handy 14 goal lead at half time. Whole court changes by both teams allowed Beaconsfield back into the contest as they clawed their way back on the scoreboard. But, Berwick was able to hold on to the lead and win by three goals. St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Emily Pratt 70 MPNFL Since 1908

31 Casey Cardinia Netball Under 15 - Berwick Under 15s knew they were up for a challenging match playing against reigning premiers Beaconsfield. The girls played with determination and fought hard for every ball, turning it over numerous times. The first three quarters were goal for goal and Beaconsfield only ran away with the match in the last 5 minutes. It was a fantastic defensive game all over the court and with a new goal end combination starting to work well together, we will definitely improve with every match. St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Lauren Carfora Under 13 - A strong start had Berwick leading in the first quarter, with all girls working really hard to apply the skills they ve been leaning at training. Our attack end worked beautifully together - the strong combinations of Hayley, Chelsea and Lauren off the centre pass saw the ball flow fluidly into our goal third. Well timed passes into the goal ring coupled with accurate shooting from Bridget W and Ebony had Berwick at a comfortable lead at half time. Continuing to fire into the third quarter Berwick showcased some smart netball and fantastic spacial awareness which saw Bridget W s timed leads earn her several passes right under the goal ring. Strong defensive pressure in the centre court right saw Gabby, Sienna and Bridget D turn over balls, and patient passing and footwork down the court really helped us capitalise on Beacy s mistakes. Fantastic effort ladies! St John of God Berwick Best on Court: Sienna Iscaro, Bridget Wakartschuk, Hayley Stringer. DOVETON Under 13 s - Well done to you guys you can see an improvement already keep the good work up. Under 15 s - Well done girls keep working and training hard and Iam sure you will see some wins coming your way. Under 17 s - Fantastic effort buy defence if we can convert our intercepts in to goals we shall see more wins. Fantastic guts and determination shown by Shan. BOC Jemma C grade - What a fantastic game girls and the game showed that we are a very strong and versatile team with is fantastic also well done to Jemma on her first game of senior netball at the club and what a great game she played... BOC Ashley. B grade - Well done girls played to your maxi potential looking forward to seeing more great efforts on court. BOC vanessa. Kel BEACONSFIELD The Battle of the Creek provided some wonderful games of netball. The highlight of the day was the 1 point victory to C Grade after some amusing interruptions in the final minutes of play. Thank you to all players, committee members and supporters who assisted in running the day; it was a great team effort by all and a special thanks to Jill Llinares Our Vice President and Life Member Gwen Neve for presenting the Battle of the Creek Trophy to our captain Kellie Holland. This week we play Doveton at Doveton and celebrate Mother s Day! We wish all mothers a wonderful and enjoyable day at the netball and football. All player sponsorship money is now due and should be paid to Carol or Julie. Don t forget our photos Thursday night; all girls need to dress in their playing uniform. Happy Mother s Day Go Beacy! KEYSBOROUGH C grade started off with lots of hands over balls and quick, clever passing. Trista and Felicia played so well in the ring this week and adapted to the windy conditions well. Fiona and The Mel s managed to break centre passes and force held balls. Kelly and Michelle super starred in defence! Their height and determination made them a strong combo. Jenny... what can I say! Jenny! Jenny! Jenny! Her voice.. Her bombs... You play a smart game. 32 Casey Cardinia Netball B Grade were back on the ball this week, having a fantastic 24 goal win over Hampton Park. This week showed how versatile B grade will be this year, having numerous combinations that all showed as strong as the other. Kristie again dominating in defence, and Shannon giving it an awesome crack as well! The attackers set up a good zone that seemed to work very well, and Jules running Centre for 3 quarters without showing hardly any sort of exhaustion. Good job B grade, bring on ROC!! A grade stepped it up a notch, improving upon focus areas since our last game. Well done to the defenders and shooters for their offensive and defensive rebounds. Unfortunately we had a couple of girls ill and injured but that didn t stop the rest of the girls from putting in 110%. Welcome to Scott Balls our new coach we will do you proud!
