3 N Bendigo Community Bank ARRE Warren is the first club to hold a premiership cup after last week s wonderful victory over a gallant Langwarrin side in the MPNFL Colts competition. The game was a great spectacle under lights at Seaford and another tick for both the Colts grade and also the demonstration of support by the local football public. This Saturday we turn our focus to Frankston Park where the finale to the Nepean League competition will be played out. The senior game between minor premiers Sorrento and challengers Somerville will highlight the day, preceded by the reserves and under 18s curtain raisers. One of the challenges faced by all finalists in all grades to date has been the persistent wet and windy weather and the effect that has had on playing conditions. Last weekend there were implications for both Nepean and Casey Cardinia League finals. Play was delayed at Rye while damage to the playing surface was repaired and players and officials are to be commended for pushing on and completing the game. Similarly, plans for semi-finals games at Berwick on Saturday were forced to be changed at the last minute after the ground was deemed too wet to play on and switched to Pakenham. While it was disappointing such a move had to be made, it was received well and the weekend crowd at the Casey Cardinia League finals was not affected and in fact was up on last year. That is a tick for the support that the football following public in the area provides across the district. The MPNFL will continue to be vigilant as far as providing the best possible conditions within our control for finals games to be played. 3RPP Football Radio MPNFL Footy Show - Saturdays 8.30am am Saturday 11th September 2.30pm Sorrento v Somerville - Grand Final, Nepean Sunday 12th September 2.00pm Mt Eliza v Seaford - Preliminary Final, Peninsula Phone: (03) Outside Broadcast Van Transported Courtesy of A.W. Panels Smash Repairs (03) Office Talk Clubs are now winding their seasons up and that is an important part of the preparation for next season. Many will be looking for new committee members for 2011 and also coaches to replace on-field leaders who are moving on. It is often called the silly season and the focus for those in charge must be to complete the legal and constitutional requirements of their clubs, in particular on their finances and auditing, and then conduct any and all business in a professional and open manner. The MPNFL is proud of the people who have put so much time and effort in to running our clubs and the integrity with which they have conducted themselves throughout the year. Respect is the key element here. Finally, congratulations to all individual award winners who were presented at this weeks MPNFL Vote Count evenings. There were some very exciting counts and it was generally agreed that the umpires got it right with the winners and those who performed well throughout the year. The evenings were a great success again and particular congratulations for all who attended and represented their clubs with pride and respect. The behaviour and attention given to the callers and the winners of awards throughout the night was excellent, and demonstrated the professional attitudes now being promoted through clubs from the top down. 5 VCFL Message CFNP Extended for 5 Years Facilities Planning, Partnerships & Participation! As you enjoy the finals atmosphere at the footy and netball today, take a moment to look at the facilities needed to put on the show. Notice the rooms needed for players to change, the playing field/court itself, the scoreboard, interchange and timekeeper facilities, social rooms, lights, posts and a large range of other necessary items. Many of these required facilities and infrastructure are in good shape; others are projects awaiting redevelopment or refurbishment. It is a costly exercise for these to be developed and then maintained and volunteers at clubs need some support to enable such facilities to reach their highest standard. Thankfully, the past five years has seen an unprecedented improvement in such facilities thanks to the Country Football Netball Program (CFNP). As of September 2010, close to 300 projects throughout regional and rural Victoria will have been allocated CFNP funding to the value of approximately $11.2 million with a combined project cost nearing $30 million! The CFNP was established in 2005 following a recommendation stemming from the Parliamentary Rural, Regional Services and Development Committee Inquiry into Country Football. Administered by Sport and Recreation Victoria, it has been an unmitigated success, due largely to the partnerships it has leveraged between local and state government and football and netball authorities, allowing volunteers at club level an opportunity and funding to implement some often long-held great ideas to improve their precinct. The Victorian State Government recently committed an additional $9 million to the CFNP through its Ready for Tomorrow: A Blueprint for Regional and Rural Victoria. This $9 million will grow to more than $10 million thanks to co contributions from the WorkSafe VCFL, the AFL and Netball Victoria and extends the CFNP for another 5 years. This is fabulous news of which the Work- Safe VCFL is extremely pleased and we again extend our appreciation to the State Government and the AFL for making the program possible. This extends the CFNP until the 2014/15 financial year and applications are now open (see link at our website for further information). Grants of up to $100,000 are possible to any one project, but keep in mind that an average grant is around $35,000. Clubs or umpiring groups need to first express their interest to their local Council on the CFNP Expression of Interest form and then Council can lodge an application if and when they are convinced of the project s merit. CFNP funded projects generally include: Modifying existing football or netball club pavilions/ facilities to improve usage and access; Development or upgrading football playing fields; Development or upgrading of netball courts; and Development or upgrading of lighting facilities. We have noticed some wonderful examples of projects, such as ground and water supply upgrades that droughtproof the surface, lighting to allow night football, better umpire facilities to cater for both genders, and many innovative change and social room improvements that help improve participation both on the field and between all people after on-field competition is over. An evaluation of more than 100 funded projects found that almost all CFNP projects assisted participation growth and made clubs more viable. Most also help the local economy and assisted club volunteers. The CFNP has also funded five premier regional venues to develop the basic amenities required to prepare venues to host future AFL preseason fixtures or, in some cases, to develop a premier quality regional venue for local fixtures. Venues funded to this level so far include Morwell, Shepparton, Ballarat, Horsham and Wangaratta. Other venues are expected to be invited in the coming years to help them reach similar status. The best projects seem to occur after some really good forward planning, such as the undertaking of a site master plan. Venues that do this not only have a much greater chance of attracting grants, but also end up with a venue that seems to have all facilities they need, in the right spot and at the right standard. If you remember just three words regarding facility planning and development, we believe they should be PLANNING, PARTNERSHIPS and PARTICIPATION. Take some time to get the PLANNING right first, ensure you are PARTNERING up well with your local Council and others, and focus on seeking funding for those facility improvements that will best impact PARTICIPATION levels at the venue, whether that be on-field or off. If you need advice or assistance regarding football facility planning and development, please do not hesitate to contact your respective Area Manager or our Planning, Facilities and Junior Football Manager Shayne Ward on (03) to help you and your club develop your ideas into tangible improvements. The WorkSafe VCFL are committed to improving all aspects of facilities, grounds, courts, etc to ensure our sports continue to be first of mind for those aspiring to be involved both on and off the field. Good luck to all involved in today s Grand Finals and lead-up finals and we feel for all Leagues and Clubs seriously affected by the current flooding crisis. Best Regards, Glenn Scott Chief Executive Officer Since 1908 MPNFL 7

7 Bendigo Community Bank Nepean League Finalé Today brings the curtain down on the Nepean League season when the all conquering Sorrento again comes up against the reborn Somerville team for the right to hold the Premiership Cup. It is like ground hog day for the Eagles as they have had to get over Red Hill twice and now face favourites Sorrento for the second time hoping this time for a different outcome. As indicated a couple of weeks ago these teams last played in a Grand Final way back in 1940 when the then named Somerville Baxter team overwhelmed Sorrento for a big win under Keith O Brien. Football of the late 30 s had gone through some transformation with the trial of district football which was abandoned in 1938, the emergence of the Baxter Football Club for two seasons before they joined forces with Somerville in The war in Europe was still a European conflict when Grand Final day came around after Somerville Baxter had defeated Navy and Sorrento who had come from fourth and only made the finals by percentage knocked over Seaford/Carrum and then Navy to play in the big one. The Teams Somerville George Bullen, William Gomm, Ron Armstrong, Hilton Armstrong, Harold Bullen, Peter Atherton, George Gomm, Ron Peterson, Len Perriam, Colin Murray, David Nillsson, Jack Woods, Keith Wagner, John Wotherspoon, Harold Thornell, John Sheffield, W. Cornford, R. Kiel, Norm Spunner, B. Wilson, G. White, Davies, Deacon, Jim Mc Gregor, B. Dickson The game was played in perfect conditions at Frankston Park in front of a huge crowd however the standard of play was below the standard of many home and away games. After an even first term Somerville did as they pleased with goals often coming so easy that it appeared that there was no opponent. The Bullen brothers were dominant and by half time the difference was Historians 47 points and appearing there was little chance of a Sorrento fight back. After the main break the Gulls tried hard and did bridge the gap to under 5 goals but a late surge snuffed out the thought of a comeback. The last was even but the damage had been done by an impressive Somerville team who had topped the ladder and now had the Standard Cup in their procession. Somerville held a presentation dinner in honour of Keith O Brien who after two years in the district had left to join the RAAF, the event was held at the Bullen s Packing Shed with the 1940 Premiership flag adorning Keith O Brien A typical day in the office (Let s talk) Next time you re thinking about how money can grow your agribusiness, call us. Over in Casey Cranbourne take on Narre Warren in what is another do or die event, Cranbourne have to fight back after a shock loss last weekend whilst Narre Warren continue to deny the critics to become the best side in the last decade off the Casey League. Looking back at these teams since they first met back in 1954 they have locked horns 104 times with Cranbourne holding the advantage 58 to 46 and the same can be said of finals with the Eagles holding a 4 to 1 lead in the 5 encounters. In fact Narre have not beaten Cranbourne since the Grand Final of 1957 and that record is likely to remain intact. Doug Dyall MPNFL Historian 100 MILLION PEOPLE SEARCH YOUTUBE EVERY DAY! 13 Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Preview As We Expected Sharks v Eagles The 2010 MPNFL Nepean Division Grand Final will be played this afternoon between the two teams that we expected for the majority of the season Sorrento and Somerville. Before we take a look at the combatants in the big dance, let me congratulate all of the players who were selected in the 2010 Nepean Division Team of the Year a wonderful achievement. Also, congratulations to Nepean Division League Medal winner Ben Holmes, who had an outstanding season with the Demons and for winning the Most Valuable Player in the competition award. Well done to Red Hill coach Jason Watts for leading his team to third place and a Preliminary Final and being awarded the Coach of the Year. We take our hat off to Sorrento coach Troy Schwarze who was unanimous in being named skipper of the Team of the Year. Today, we pay tribute to the best two sides of the 2010 season in Sorrento and Somerville. The Sharks have been arguably the best team in the competition for the past three seasons and play in their third consecutive grand final. They have tasted the joy of winning and the pain of losing. Somerville was hell bent on rebuilding its club after several years in the football wilderness and the off-field crew who made this happen should be congratulated. The return of favourite sons in Aaron Murray, Glen Boyd, Josh Collie, Will Jolley, Matt Maltman and Geoff Hibberd was an outstanding story in the pre-season while the recruitment of hard nut Leigh Stewart, along with Jay Austerbury, Luke Forsyth and Joel Atkins created a lot of excitement on and off the field. The emergence of kids in Lachlan Edwards, Emilio Bitters, Daniel Durant and Brock Osborne has seen development continue at the club. It s been a wonderful year for the Eagles. They ve come a long way! However, ask any Eagle on and off the field whether they are feeling satisfied and they will be sure to reply; NO WAY! ADVANCE Sorrento stands in the way of the Eagles going all the way and it s going to take a super human effort to take the prize. The Sharks saw a number of departures in the off-season (namely Doug Scott, Ben Macguiness, Dave Lawson, Andrew Burns, and Haigan Haimona) however, were able to pick-up the likes of Josh Moore and Ben Schwarze, along with Daniel Villani and Daniel Moss, while Nick Jewell has added something late in the year. Way back in April and at the end of the first month of the 2010 season, this is the match-up we wanted to see on the last day of the season at Frankston Park. Somerville proved quickly in round nine that it was the only team capable of matching it with the Sharks after beating them by six goals. The other sides in the finals, especially Rosebud and Rye, just didn t have the quality on every line to go with the best side in the competition. Red Hill, despite beating Somerville on two occasions in the home and away season, didn t have the body size or firepower to match it with the Sharks. It simply had to be Somerville to progress through. Now that the Eagles are there, they need to produce something that is a little better than what they dishedup two weeks ago. Somerville s smalls in Jedd Sutton, Matt Maltman and Guy Austin are vital in the clash and they need to work hard to push forward and hold the ball inside attacking 50. The Eagles can t rely on Glenn Boyd and Murray to clunk everything that comes their way. Boyd came off with a knee injury last week but with his side kicking 12 goals in the third, maybe they held him back to be right for today. The Somerville midfielders need to work harder in the middle of the ground and at the stoppages this time around, while the backs need to be accountable, help one another and take the game on when needed. Sedgewick, Hibberd, Towan and even Collie pushing back are outstanding players and more than capable of this. Ben Schwarze has booted 10 goals in two outings against the Eagles and if he s able to achieve this again, the Sharks are odds-on to be leading the scoreboard at the end of the game. 14 Nepean Preview Sorrento s pressure in the second semi final was some of the best pressure seen in local footy in some time. There were no easy possessions for the Eagles and that came as a result of every Sorrento player sacrificing themselves for the betterment of the team. The versatility of Daniel Villani and Troy Schwarze in this match will be the difference. They can ruck, rove and are both comfortable at either end of the ground. They simply cannot be stopped. There s no question that Scott Cameron is a great inclusion for the Sharks while Adrian Ridout is sure to come into the Eagles side to try and stop his effectiveness. With the inclusion of Cameron, it will be interesting to see who gets left out Jewell or Warwick Scanlon. Scanlon has more flexibility in his game, however, you can t help but feel the former Bushranger will get the nod. The Sorras have had a very easy preparation, which would help Scott Phillips in his recovery, although the downside to this is lack of match fitness. Trevor Mattison could be the same if they go with him. He had a bad knee and had his hamstring iced following the second semi. Somerville has had a tough ride in. Six hard quarters against Red Hill and towelling from Sorrento a fortnight ago. All the signs look superb for Sorrento in the second semi and if they take the same hunger, desire, commitment and application into the biggest game for the year, they won t be beaten. The taste of grand final defeat would still be in the mouths of many playing today and it s not a taste they would want tonight at 5PM. Troy Schwarze will own Frankston Park, hold the cup aloft with Ben McCormick and win himself a VCFL medal for being named BOG at the same time. The Bombers went in favourites last season too but lost the unlosable to Rye. Today they have the opportunity to avenge that loss against Somerville. These sides have been the best two reserves teams in the competition this season. Both line-ups have a sprinkling of senior experience, the Bombers rolling out the likes of Mark Perry, Matt Eady, Jarrod Hartskeerl, Chris Longley, Pat Falzon, Justin Clapp, Josh Bull, James Rice and coach Travis Reints, while Matt Wells has been a class act in his day. The Eagles names aren t as big, although the likes of Ben and Matt Page, Marcus Bate, Jay Austerbury (if he MP SPORTS PHYSICIANS Specialists in Sport and Exercise Medicine Club, TAC Cup, VFL, AFL football All other sports Medicare rebates Close relationship with local physios, GPs and surgeons CAMS Medical examinations Mornington 130 Tanti Avenue Ph: Frankston 1/20 Clarendon St Ph: The Peninsula s sports medicine specialists Dr Leesa Huguenin Dr Greg Harris MBBS M.SpMed FACSP MBBS (Hons) FACSP saddles up in the twos), Lee Koerner and Joel Cant are all very good players who have played senior footy this season. Paul Satur and Chris Fleetwood have been outstanding in recent weeks. The last time these two sides played, the Eagles had 26 scoring shots to 20, however, went down by 14 points. The Bombers have played one game in the past month and one questions whether they have the work in the legs to go all the way. Somerville is certainly hardened, while you can argue that the Bombers will be fresh. Expect the best side in it this year Frankston Bombers to taste premiership success, which will be bittersweet for Reints after missing on the senior flag last year due to injury. Under 18 s Frankston Bombers will go into today s Under 18s Grand Final as raging hot favourites to win the title against Sorrento. The Bombers have been the stand-out side all season and come into this game on the back of an eight goal second semi final win over the Sharks. The only thing preventing the Bombers from winning the premiership today is themselves. Will they get ahead of themselves? Have they played the game in their mind a million times already? How would they have coped with the emotion over the past two weeks. Will they be cocky after smashing the Sharks two weeks ago? All questions that will be answered by 2PM. The fact is the Bombers have stars on every line. The likes of Michael Maiorino, Nathan Martin, Dale Sutton, Jake Foster, Matthew Harris and Nick Haynes (senior Nepean Team of the Year half forward) have all played senior footy this season while the likes of Adam Pasquill, Jay Page and Ben Simmons are in tip top form. There is no question that the Sharks rely on league medal winner Tyrren Head and Leigh Poholke in attack, while the likes of Hayden Brodie and Jac Brown have both played senior footy this season. Pat Hall, Adam O Callaghan, Daniel Hickey and skipper Gerard Hammond always lead from the front while Matt Dobrowolski and Luke Schuldt come into the biggest day on the footy calendar in great form. The Sharks had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them last week by the Eagles but still came out on top. The Sharks need to hang on to the Bombers early and hope that the pressure can result in turnovers and scoreboard pressure. The Frankston Bombers deserve to taste the ultimate success. 17 Southern Umpires Club Recognition Award Every week our umpires front up to the various grounds and from the moment they speak to the team manager they get an idea of how they are going to be treated on the day. There are certain clubs that make a commitment to ensure that the umpires are made to feel welcome and more than just a person there to do a job. This was most evident during the Umpire Appreciation Round in July; however some clubs do not restrict themselves to looking after us for just one week of the season. Not many people outside the Southern Umpires Association realise that for the past 20 years we have been making a presentation of the Club Recognition Award in appreciation of services made to umpires and umpiring. It is our way of saying thank you to a selected club for doing those extra things that make us part of the game. Often it is just a simple matter of ensuring that the balls and paperwork are in order. Some team managers even take the time to fill out the match details on score cards and match reports. Some clubs have bottled water available in a fridge in the rooms or provide food and refreshments after the game. Having clean and tidy rooms with a functioning interior toilet and hot water in the showers, even when the players are using theirs, is appreciated. Leaving the room clear of clutter and unwanted equipment and providing sufficient clothes hooks and chairs for up to twelve people is a real bonus. A few even cater for our growing number of female umpires by providing separate change and showering facilities. We know that a lot of clubs are restricted in what they can provide in the way of facilities. By making the effort to improve amenities for umpires, clubs have shown that they respect the conditions under which we have to operate. Occasionally an umpire may need assistance with a minor injury or niggle and the willingness of trainers to take time to do some strapping or provide a quick massage is remarkable. Ultimately it is people who make a difference. Being invited in for a drink after the game offers umpires the opportunity to meet players and officials in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss the day s proceedings. It is one thing to make the invitation but the clubs with a genuine interest in developing a positive relationship with umpires make certain that someone takes an interest in them. The days of free drink cards are well gone but there are certain club officials who do see that the first drink is taken care of and engage in conversation before moving on to socialise with other members. When officials, coaches, players and supporters include umpires, they contribute to a feeling of acceptance and an understanding of the role that each has to play to make local footy vibrant and viable. 18 Southern Umpires This year the SUA membership was asked to nominate clubs that they thought were deserving of the Recognition Award and they came up with three finalists- Narre Warren, Seaford and Mt. Eliza. In presenting the award on Wednesday night, SUA Chairman Jeff Jones commended all three clubs for fulfilling the Vic Health statement on becoming a successful club: Regardless of the sport played, successful clubs have a long strong history, commitment to including others and a family and social focus. They value and reward members, communicate and promote regularly, and have policies that cover all bases. All of them have shown great support for our umpires throughout the season but ultimately the members felt that Seaford was most deserving of the award. Gary Sutton summed it up best when he said, For those of us who choose to attend the social rooms, a warm welcome and complimentary refreshments are commonplace, together with friendly conversation with club officials and identities such as Rick East and Brett Irving. Through their respect, professional attitude and hospitality before, during and after the match the Seaford Football Club has treated all the visiting umpires as valued contributors on game days. For promoting interaction such as this between Club and Umpires, the Southern Umpires Association is pleased to recognise Seaford as a perfect example of the commitment the MPNFL has towards fostering a positive atmosphere for all involved in our great game. 21 Bendigo Community Bank President s View Sorrento Football Club President s Message Well here we are again grand final day, but this is like no other in the Club s history. For the first time in over 100 years we have two teams appearing on grand final day. This is a credit to all those concerned, in particular our junior club which has produced most if not all of our under 18 team and a large majority of the senior team. Our senior club is probably only here now by reason of the development of a strong junior club. This year we have seen a number of juniors progress through the TAC Cup and VFL. Mitch Hallahan captained Victoria country together with Tom Lynch to win the Australian championship. Mitch s brother James played VFL at Sandringham, Myles Pitt at Port Melbourne and Tod Grayson with the Gold Coast. All boys have an excellent chance of being drafted. Congratulations to Tyrren Head on winning the league u18,s best & fairest, Daniel Grant on being named young gun 2010 and Troy Schwartz on being named captain of the Team of the Year. It was interesting that Troy was the only Sorrento player selected for the MPNFL team of the year. Perhaps this is an indication of the evenness of our team. Finally I would like to thank all those who have assisted me throughout the year and a special thanks to our members and generous sponsors. Garry Woodhams - President Sorrento Football Club Somerville Football Club President s Message Congratulations to all 3 sides on their performances for the 2010 season. Our first ever Club Championship award is living proof of the consistency of all 3 sides. To have 2 sides into a grand final is just reward for the commitment shown by all players on the list, the coaches & support staff. Unfortunately our 3rd 18 side fell short last week against very good opposition but they fought the game right out & should be proud of their efforts. My personal thanks go to a hard working committee, all members of the club, our generous sponsors & loyal supporters. Without your support the club could not possibly be in the position it finds itself today. I also congratulate our Junior Football Club on another successful year & sincerely thank them for their fabulous support throughout the year. Best wishes go to all 3 sides playing in grand finals tomorrow. Finally to those players fortunate enough to get a game today I wish you all the very best. You are not only representing your club but the Somerville community & it is expected your conduct will be appropriate, not only today but for the next few days!!! 23 Bendigo Community Bank Coach s Say Sorrento Football Club Coach s Message Season 2010 has gone by so fast. As a club we have grown and pushed ourselves, to the point where we are now fighting for a premiership. We have had 38 players pull on a senior jumper this year and of them 3 were under 18 players. Our 18s have been sensational all year and we can see some real talent coming through from this group. Scott Marks has lead this group wonderfully well and is to be congratulated for what he has got out of the group. The entire player group should be very proud of the efforts they have put in over the year, from training to water recoveries to social functions and of course playing. We now get the chance to achieve what every player playing in the competition aspires to. Some players have been here before and others are playing in their first grand final, it s a great experience that will improve them as players whatever the result. To our supporters/sponsors thanks for the ongoing support and here is hoping you will all be singing the old song come games end. Troy Schwarze - Sorrento Football Club Somerville Football Club Coach s Message It is a good feeling to know that as a Club we have made it to Grand Final Day in To do it in the two senior grades speaks volumes for the commitment of the players and coaching staff. We can write our own history by our actions out on the ground today. I would like to thank all the Coaching and off field staff who have supported me this year. I also thank the club for giving me the opportunity to re-commence my coaching career. My family have also had to make several sacrifices and I appreciate their encouragement. At the start of the year we had a vision of where we wanted to be and we will continue to strive for improvement in all areas of our football. To the players who take part and those who may not you are all part of the fabric of the club no matter what role you have played. Our Under 18 s have played a major role in our selections throughout the year as we have played many through the senior side and several will be running out with us today. The rest of the side performed magnificently to make it to the Preliminary final. Respect your team mates and hold your head high throughout the day and we can have something special to look forward to. Leigh Stewart - Somerville Football Club M.T. 24 Notes Bendigo Community Bank Sorrento Somerville On behalf of the club we d like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to all players, sponsors, members, supporters and volunteers. Without YOU there is no club so don t think your support goes un-noticed. Hopefully today goes our way and we look forward to your continued support in Pre-season started and we could all see there was plenty of hunger there, The group was keen even angry after the previous Grand Final despair, Recruitment was solid, retention was good though there was the loss of our skipper, Then Burnsy of course and McGuinness as well who went and played on the Chipper, But this is the Sharks a very proud club who are determined for sustained success, In Schwarze, Moore, Villani and Moss and youth that continues to impress, The year started well results going our way something special was beginning to unfold, By finals time we realized a dream two teams still hunting for gold, Which sees us here on the big stage Frankston on Grand final day, The unders and seniors both in the Granny club history so the historians say, It ll be a battle of gigantic proportions something we love to embrace, Go as hard as you can and bring home the cups cos much sweeter the beer will taste. Good luck to all players today we know you ll make us proud. Make this a memorable year for the club. Thought of the week: If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done! Gossy 1 & 2 One day in September has turned into two for The Somerville Football Club. What a great effort from all three sides last weekend. The Two s were magnificent against the odds and the tide to storm into their first Grand Final since The Under 18 s served their Club with distinction throughout the year and last Saturday was no exception. They gave everything and just missed the opportunity to meet Frankston today. The performance of The Seniors was first class and showed why we deserve to be out there today. Now is the time to be known by our actions on the big stage. Under 18 s: Dave and his team put together another fantastic season for the club and to have several members of his side in the seniors today means that our development structures are working. Thanks to Dennis, Greg, Peter & Craig for their efforts throughout the year. You are all part of the club so get behind the Reserves & The Seniors today. The Reserves: Jordo and the team have come a long way from where they finished last year. Team spirit is something that this side has plenty of and they show that every week. The side is well supported on the sidelines by Ward, Brighty and Macca. Thanks for your input. It is the whole squad that makes up the side so even if you have only played a small part you effort will not be forgotten. The Seniors: Stewy stated at the start of the year that those who are prepared to do the hard work will see improvement. We have achieved that, but don t be satisfied until you walk off the ground at the end of the day knowing you have given everything you can. The Club & the township are 100% behind you. Blue & Gold will be everywhere so soak up the atmosphere and play your best. Thanks to Gommy Big Kev Dave Collie & Mark Stewart for running the off field duties. SOCIAL: Presentation Night Friday 17th The Clubrooms. $30 per head $20 Under 18 s. Bookings essential see Macca today. TONIGHT: Everybody get back to the rooms after the game and have a meal and a drink or two. Thanks to Joy, Annette, Carol & Julia for their assistance with the meals last Saturday. 26 Sorrento Sharks 1 Brendan Cairns A consistent season from the vice captain who has embraced the leadership role. A great asset to the side with his versatility in a variety of roles. 2 Kayle Stringer-Morris An injury interrupted season who may be timing his run perfectly. Could he be the X factor come finals time. 3 Trevor Mattison A seasoned campaigner who is in the prime of his career. He moves that quickly his hair is starting to fall out. 4 Troy Schwarze Another stellar season spent predominantly on ball. His pace, kicking and leadership are second to none. 5 Jack Falck His season appeared over due to illness but has bounced back to be an important player. Has blistering pace and the ability to be a game breaker. 7 Warwick Scanlan Veteran backman who s no nonsense approach endears him to the faithful. A team man who bats above his average off field. 8 Guy Stringer Age is no barrier for this evergreen star. Can play key position at either end or chop out in the ruck. 9 Ben Schwarze He s been a welcome addition with his leadership and versatility. He s added another dimension to the forward line in particular. 10 Nick Muller The son of an ompa lumpa, could line up anywhere. A team orientated player, he ll take on any role with passion. 12 Daniel Villani A new player this year who s courage has made him a crowd favorite. His fearless attack on the footy can border on stupidity. 13 Daniel Grant A terrific debut season first year out of 18 s. His gut running and penetrating kicks have been a feature. 16 Mitchell Nibbs The architect across half back who s taken on some big roles this year. Sets up a lot of play with his creativity and good skills. 28 MPNFL Since Scott Phillips A game breaker who can do the undoable. An extended lay off sees him fresh and firing at the right time of year.

27 18 Brent Kenyon Just played his 200th senior game for the club which puts him in exalted company. Continues to do the job year after year. 19 Josh Stephenson A hard working forward who continues to develop at a rapid rate. An important player at such a young age. 21 Ben McCormack Captain of the club who leads with great distinction. Another consistent season from Mr. Reliable. 22 Nick Warner Has nailed down a spot in the side in his second season with his ability to play in a number of positions. A beautiful kick and good below his knees. 23 Joshua Moore A wonderful first season at the club. A smooth mover who makes smart decisions when the ball is in his hands. 24 Heath Cameron Dependable backman who is rarely beaten. Gets a big job every week and rarely disappoints. 25 Scott Cameron A leak has appeared in the big fellas game this year. The dominant big man in the comp for a decade. 26 Grant Johnson Has added another trick to his bag this year. A gun on baller who is very dangerous when resting forward. 27 Daniel Moss A very consistent season from the on-ball/forward. Made an impression at the club as soon as he arrived and has continued right through the year. 29 Jon Caspar He s won back his spot this year and is arguably the most improved player in the side. Still hard to believe he s a Caspar when you look at him from side on. 39 Nick Jewell A big unit who has shown he can still play footy after a decade out of the game. A great guy to have around the club with his energy and experience. Since 1908 MPNFL 29
