1 Point Post Round 14, 2015 Editorial Please note that, due to circumstances out of our control, the Club has had to change the date of the Trivia night, which will now be held on Friday 21st August. The venue is still the Chats Room at The Ranch Hotel. Doors open at 6pm, and meals can be ordered from the Chats Room bar. Trivia starts at 7pm, with entertainment provided for younger kids in an adjoining room. Entry is $20 per adult, and kids are free! Come along for a fun night of trivia, fundraising games for the kids, auctions, and lucky door prizes. And don t forget its pie night at trainings on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12 th August. Spectrum Healthcare The team at Spectrum Healthcare, sponsors of the North Ryde Dockers will be at ELS Hall this week to keep our Dockers players in tip top shape! Our qualified sports chiropractors and physiotherapists will be available before and during the games to provide any sports strapping and to assess any injuries. Spectrum Healthcare is located in the Specialist Medical Centre complex in North Ryde and should you require our services we are extending special student rates for all Dockers players for Physiotherapy, Sports Chiropractic and Massage Therapy. Auskick The photos below are of some of our Auskick players of the week. Both of these Auskickers have contributed over the past few weeks in showing great participation, team work and sportsmanship. It has been fantastic to see how well the team has really started to work together and improve their skills of the great game of AFL, everyone should be really proud of themselves. 2 them and share in our experiences and us with theirs so far. It will be a fun day so make sure you don t miss it. Melinda Jenkins U9W As we are coming up to the end of the season we have a few things happening, for the next two weeks please bring along a friend who will be welcome to attend both the training and Sunday game, there will be some prizes (Swans little footies) being handed out to say thank you for bringing them along. We would love to see as many of you and your friends come back next year. In two weeks the 16 th Aug we are hosting Leichhardt Auskick team who are a relatively new club, so it s a fantastic initiative to join with U11 There was a lot of publicity this week surrounding Adam Goodes and the behaviour of some opposition fans who have chosen to constantly boo him. There was plenty of conjecture about whether the actions were racially motivated, but one thing was undisputed- Adam was suffering under the treatment he was receiving and it was having a detrimental effect on the game. Swans fans, stars of other sports, community leaders, and the AFL, 2 POINT POST- - - ROUND 14

3 along with players from the Swans and all other AFL teams all united with a common message. Respect. Perhaps that media saturation entered the psyche of the Under 11 Dockers as they faced up against Kellyville on Sunday. The previous encounter had been an aggressive affair with unnecessary contact, anger and flared tempers, but as a number of the boys sported Adam Goodes number 37 written onto their arms, there was a very different feel to the pre- game warm up. Perhaps it was the warmth of the unseasonal sunshine but a fair go mood was reflected when a number of boys volunteered to help out Kellyville who were short on numbers whereas every eligible Dockers player was at the ground. Before taking the field, Coach Darren reminded each player that they had to be accountable for their opposite number. Each boy was going to spend time in defence this week and they needed to know who their opponent was and defend against them. Regardless of the score, respect your opponent, especially as this week that opponent may have been one of the 12 individual Dockers who turned their jersey inside out for a quarter and played for the Magpies! Following on from last week the Dockers were off to a flying start. The first ruck contest was a textbook move with Josh getting the ball to Micah who booted it forward and before anyone could blink Kyeton had notched up a goal. It set the tone early that the game was going to be free flowing fast moving footy with plenty of highlights and plenty of great goals. Ryan was involved early and was absolutely elated when he scored his first goal for the season (unlucky not to follow it up with a second). First year player Bronson scored his first goal for the club and enjoyed it so much he later piled on 3 more! Magnet again put his hand up for goal of the year with a spectacular goal kicked over his shoulder as he faced away from the posts! POINT POST- - - ROUND 14 3

4 Tom contributed a magnificent long range bomb after bursting through the centre of the ground. Rhys D took a great mark on the half forward line, turned and played on before slotting a beauty of a goal. All these were spectacular and highly entertaining goals to watch, but there were other plays that Coach Darren thought were more significant. As the Magpies were trying to build out of defence Buster intercepted the ball on the half forward line. Instead of blazing away towards what was a pretty congested goal square, he held the ball and examined options, eventually delivering a perfectly weighted pass to James who had floated unmarked into the forward pocket. James took a graceful overhead mark turned and drilled a perfect goal (his first for the season too!). Another highlight was Luke and Fuzz combining to move the ball from the back line to the midfield before finding Huey who passed to Henry who handballed to Aiden, across quickly to Ashton and bang a goal. A coast to coast team effort without the opposition touching the ball! But the highlights weren t limited to goals. Mattie D returned after 6 weeks off with injury and slotted straight back into the impenetrable centre half back position that earned him the nickname the Wall. Simon continued to prove his courage with his persistent tackling and getting his body over the ball. Harrison shepherding is becoming trademark and Liam proves each week that he is Mr 4 POINT POST- - - ROUND 14

5 Versatility. He is comfortable at either end of the ground kicking a goal in one quarter and taking a defensive mark in the same goal square in the next. Ashton had his best game for the season. He used his explosive pace to great advantage and combined plenty of great team work with some stunning individual runs to finish the day with 3 goals and a packet of footy cards for his man of the match performance. Lachy and Mitchell both have showed plenty of skill, speed and flair but most significantly they showed just as much commitment when they were filling in for the Magpies. Fantastic efforts from o Liam, Rhys, Fuzz, Henry, Simon, Huey, Tom, Bronson, Lachy, Mitch, Harry, and Luke all of who played one quarter for the Magpies and special mention to Luke who scored a great goal for them! things to remember. The fact that the Dockers had 12 different goal kickers during the game told the story of great teamwork. The way that Cam encouraged Aiden when his shot at goal sprayed off to the side told a story of great leadership. And witnessing Henry and Huey congratulating and encouraging opposition players during the game, tells a story of great sportsmanship. Congratulations boys, those traits have earned you great respect. U12 Stephen Grech Although well beaten on the scoreboard, credit is due to the Magpies who continued with great effort and endeavour right to the end and to both teams for playing the game in great spirit. The Dockers finished the game with 23 goals and the result was a big win but there were more important POINT POST- - - ROUND 14 5
